I'm Schofield and Edwards were one of their own. Point was no one really knows or cares who Wotton is.

5he media protecting one of their own was when Nigella Lawson's ex slandered her in the press and the media refused to bite.

Yes I was just thinking those presenters are one of their own

There we’re a few threads on here on DW, I don’t know who he is beyond some presenter, haven’t watched anything he does I just wasn’t interested in reading up on it

MissElinorDashwood · 11/09/2023 11:17

Next to nothing.
Now go compare with all the articles written last year when Meghan was there. Over 20 articles a day online, and that was just the Daily Heil. There were lots of pressing matters back then too.

Anyway, the UK press is local and Invictus Games is global so they are receiving lots of fair and balanced coverage. Like I said earlier, the tabloids are a drop in the ocean by comparison.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days. Maybe we can come back and discuss then.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 11/09/2023 11:10

@Roussette

I have seen similar UKIPish messages directed to me on two separate threads this morning. It's insidious, but the meaning is clear: you are not wanted here! But me, I'm stubborn like you won't believe. I am not going anywhere!

'UKIP ish' messages??

I'm sorry you've had offensive messages I'm sure you'll have reported and the users banned. Please don't tar everyone with the same brush as 'UKIP ish' if they react and disagree with your often very lengthy posts.

I think a lots of projection goes on on these threads but the fact is the build up was widely covered as was the launch and now individual events are available. Harry can't always have front page news much as we all know we craves it for himself.

Mycatisthebestever · 11/09/2023 11:25

MrsMaxDeWinter · 11/09/2023 10:49

@Mycatisthebestever

The one above smacks more of the gutter press that you so often decry. If I remember correctly you are not British and I would say that is possibly a reason why you don't "get it". If we are to talk about military action and war then the Queen's family were held dear to the hearts of the British during WW2 and since. Whilst these things may be ceremonial there is much more to it than that. It isn't something that bears cold critical analysis but more of literally "being British" and having a heritage.

I have read many jaw dropping things on these threads but this one stopped me in my tracks.

No, I am not British. But I am from a former British colony that knows far better than we should about the consequences of British troops on our nations, troops that slaughtered our people as they fought in the name of King and country.

Sure, go back to WWII if you want to emphasise the specialness of the Royal Family links to the military, as long as you are happy for me to go back to that time too, when my grandfather's brother fought in Burma in the Second World War, with the King's African Rifles, and had friends who did not come back alive in a war that had nothing to do with Africa.

Permit me too, to go through every single war of aggression against the native population fought by the British army in my continent. South Africa. Ghana. Nigeria. Kenya. Zimbabwe. Do you want me to go on?

So please, don't "you are not British so don't get it" me.

As for this:

It isn't something that bears cold critical analysis but more of literally "being British" and having a heritage.

So because I am not British, I don't have a heritage?

I have a heritage. One that the British tried to destroy. And one that is not tied up with plunder, looting and death.

Me aside, your post is an insult to every person who does not tie their identity to the Royal Family, but still consider themselves British.

Edited

Isn't me saying that though that you are not British and not "getting it" exactly the same as people on here being told you are not POC and therefore don't get it or cannot speak about your experiences and to not even try? I have lived in many Commonwealth countries and know all too well how there is an identity from being that as well as their own individual heritage.

At no point did I say you did not have a heritage but you do not have a British heritage as in someone who has grown up and their families for generations. That is a fact - the same as I do not have your heritage. You have a different one which is both positive and negative as you point out.

No. Dan Wooten yields far more power and his actions implicate The Scum and the Daily Heil and those at the top including editors and the owners. These tabloids like to present themselves as the moral arbiters of society when they are the most corrupt, wilfully covering up the abuse that happened under their watch.

His scandal is epic because of the powerful people it implicates.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Aye, a great post @MrsMaxDeWinter

AuroraCake · 11/09/2023 11:29

Do they? Well I happen to think the lynching of Schofield and Edwards was unsavoury anyway. It wasn't a public matter.

Mycatisthebestever · 11/09/2023 11:29

@MissElinorDashwood I think that your use of the "Daily Heil" is offensive especially in the light that you know at least one poster yesterday was talking about being Jewish. I know the phrase and I know where to comes from - no need to explain.

Janiie · 11/09/2023 11:30

'Schofield and Edwards were one of their own. Point was no one really knows or cares who Wotton is.'

Exactly. 2 well known faces who have fronted many TV programmes and royal events turn out to allegedly have a thing for men decades younger than themselves whilst apparently happily married is of more interest than what a gbnews presenter who few have heard of has been up to.

mpsw · 11/09/2023 11:35

Roussette · 11/09/2023 10:52

I keep abreast of the News but Thanks for patronising me 🙄

It's very tiresome when a poster says something that me, or others, Have Not Said.

Nowhere did I even hint at it being front page news. Nowhere. And me suggesting it would be nice to see one SMALL article illustrates that. Whilst the Games are going on.

I feel invisible

I listed in my previous post all the places that have carried articles (that I have served up to me in my online newsfeeds, so easy to check). Not all Harry stuff.

Do you really look at none of them?

And I've since checked specifically, and both The Telegraph and The Times have articles too.

Where do you get your news from, of you don't see any of these?

"I've had articles served up to me from BBC, SKY, the Mirror, the Express, the Sun, the Mail, the Independent, Yahoo, other collation news sites (so I know it's been in OK and Hello as well). And of course a lot of that will be carried by BFBS"

TripleDaisySummer · 11/09/2023 11:47

It the first year BBC is live streaming Invictus Games - so that's good The Sun and Mail come up with google with articles highlighting that.

I don't see that the games are being ignored.

There are a lot of news stories all feeding into dying Tory government narrative- council going bankrupt, the RACC scandal - school handled badly but other public buildings -prison escaping, spying on MP, and wider things like wilco going under again focus on dying highstreets and other economic problems - all as we limp to a much anticipated general election. September is a busy time the silly season ended and it back to full on politics - sporting events do get push back a bit and they start to have to compete with other stories - I don't think it patronising to point that put especially as there are non UK posters who may be aware of the current endless shit shows currently happening in UK.

Roussette · 11/09/2023 11:52

Dan Wootton writes for the Sun and the Mail and previously NOTW
He was years on ITV breakfast news, and a stint on TalkRadio
He's been swimming around on the bottom of the pond for a long time

Maybe he shouldn't be commenting given he's Australian and not British

PrincessOfTigger · 11/09/2023 11:59

There really isn’t a conspiracy; tabloids employ armies of people whose job it is to find out what people are interested in and what gets the most clicks. People are more interested in Huw Edwards than Dan Wooton, especially as those who know who DW is already see him as tabloidy so it’s not quite the same fall from grace.

Janiie · 11/09/2023 11:59

TripleDaisySummer · 11/09/2023 12:04

I can't stand Dan Wootton in any capacity .

I have no idea what residency citizenship that man has - though would point out currently Australia does have our Monarch as their head of state.

It seems media coverage of Invictus Games is with BBC live streaming actually more than ever before. I do think Harry played a role with that increased coverage - though imagine there are actually many working behind the scenes to that aim - I don't think we should be downplaying the amount of coverage they have managed especially as it is an area which is often built up over years if not decades.

Yes. HE had a BBC veneer of respectability

@Mycatisthebestever

So now you are an expert on Commonwealth countries because you have lived there, but I ,having spent half my life in the UK don't get it.

Thanks for backtracking on my lack of heritage though. Very big of you.

I am not sure we have anything to say to each other, so I recommend we leave it there to avoid derailing this thread.

I wasn't backtracking at all as I never said you had no heritage just to be clear.
I said I understand that there is a great difference between a Commonwealth heritage and a purely British heritage - so be it.

Indeed you are correct @Roussette as it is impossible for us who do not have a different heritage to understand others in the same way and to the extent they do.
