Harry and Meghan will never give up their royal titles, why should they? Even though they've moved away and are no longer senior working Royals, they are still obviously royalists and monarchists, hence accepting Prince and Princess for their children. These titles are all theirs until they die, and that's what they want, obviously. As is their right. No-one decides that, or the line of succession. It's a given..

@Iwantcakeeveryday

It's been barely a week and I see the "Harry has failed" talking points are already being sharpened!

@Mylovelygreendress

I actually agree that they should give up the Duke and Duchess titles. I rather like the idea that was floated by Tom Bower that Harry wanted to call himself Harry Spencer. Harry and Meghan Spencer. That would enrage the talking heads to explosion, so bring that on.

As Harry is a "blood prince", though, he will still be Prince Harry. And Meghan would be entitled to be the Princess Henry. Which would very quickly mutate colloquially into the informal Princess Meghan. I am not sure you would want that!

Even if Harry were to stop being called Prince Harry, he would still be Harry, the second son of the King of the United Kingdom of you fill in the rest.

Perhaps you want him to give up his genetic and blood links to the Royal Family, but if you can pick and choose which members should be in the blood line, then that makes the whole "our Royal Family can only be those persons descended from the Electress of Hanover thing" a bit beside the point.

Here's the thing about the Royal Family.

If you accept the principle that there is one, and only one family chosen by God by right of being born into a particular line of succession, you can't pick which members get to stay in that family and which not.

They invented a wonderful sleight of hand with the working royals thing, which means that the taxpayer has the burden of funding only those members who "work" for the Crown, the definition of work being as elastic as you want, depending on the popularity of said working royal.

Harry and Meghan are out of the UK, out of your hair, you don't pay a tuppence for them.

Just imagine the anger if Meghan got called princess

Maireas · 03/09/2023 17:29

She is a Princess, though. For some time she was referred to as Her Royal Highness. People curtseyed to her. Seemed to be ok at the time

No disrespect but was this post meant for this thread?
Or have I missed a comment or two while I was pressing endless school uniform.

Talking about taking things from a personal level, as someone who was born with congenital scoliosis , I found Harry's remarks about the matron , the description of her crooked spine , her slow motion on the stairs , the teasing and remarks about her lack of ' hotness' , particularly upsetting.

Now I know someone will say ' ah he was a child' and that's true but I don't know why he thought writing so descriptively about it in a book now was a good idea and he didn't show any remorse for his behaviour at all!

I pointed this out of the other IG thread, as someone had said 'words matter' in relation to scrutiny of Harry. I said yes and his words mattered in his awful book, about 'kills' 'crooked spines' and penises. It was, wait for it, a derailment as his constant waaahs in his media appearances were nothing to do with IG!

Then a derailment accuser wrote a sermon about boarding schools no less, seeming to miss their own rules that only IG content to be discussed.

Anywayyy. His presence detracts from the focus, he is not worthy imo to represent the vets. The ceo and those in charge etc must surely know his profile is now too negative.

Roussette · 03/09/2023 17:41

@MrsMaxDeWinter
She gets called Duchess Meghan and Princess Meghan over in the States! And even if they did give up the titles, as we know from over the years, it would then be something else they'd have to do to satisfy those who are irritated by their presence in any way shape or form.

The goalposts never stop moving and never have done since Meghan appeared on the scene!

He is the son of the King, always will be, and giving up the titles won't make a blind bit of difference I don't think. They'd still be called out for something.

Roussette · 03/09/2023 17:43

Doubtful.

The response he received when talking to/giving a speech to a massive number of Invictus veterans was amazing! They loved what he said.
You might wish it, but I can't see him going anywhere. Do hope not.

ArcaneWireless · 03/09/2023 17:44

I really don’t think it matters what he chooses to call himself.

Even if he called himself the venerable Happy Harry of Smileytown, someone will still say he should really be called the Whinger of Windsor.

He is Prince Harry. That cannot change.

As an aside, it was nice to see Meghan having a nice night out at Beyonce. I wonder if she wishes she’d arranged it as a girls’ night now.

Fizz, a raucous version of single ladies, flinging yourself about to crazy in love - what is not to love?

Instead a lovely night out is a little tarnished with all the focus on a stink face.

And aye. We can all be twats. It is how we deal with the aftermath of twatty episodes that forms opinions. The twatty episode may be fleeting. Opinions last far longer.

I wouldn't be 'angry' it would just once again confirm what a pair of contrary hypocrites they were.

I'd be like if I worked in Macdonalds, hated it and left. Made a career out of criticising it and sharing controversial private information about staff but still flounced about wearing the uniform, queue jumping in every MacDs and asking for staff discount for nuggets. You wouldnt would you. You'd stick to your convictions and cut off every association.

i mean, not exactly the same but you get the gist.

Samcro · 03/09/2023 17:48

Haven’t seen the pictures, but sounds like he didn’t want to be there (don’t blame him) trouble is if she had gone without him, it would be reported that their marriage was on the Roxy

I bet she does. Cocktails with the girls , dancing better than Beyoncé ( like we all think we do after a few), kebab and then Haz holding her hair back when her heid was doon the pan... great night

Yes, it is meant for this thread, @jeffgoldblum as the poster I addressed in my comment said Meghan should give up her title.

You have raised the Ludgrove matron episode on a thread about Invictus, and I responded to a comment about the titles. This seems to now be a thread about everything Harry, so all the talking points are being regurgitated, to use a great word that someone used earlier.

jeffgoldblum · 03/09/2023 17:52

No need to be rude ! , I only asked.

jeffgoldblum · 03/09/2023 17:54

I raised it because some of us were discussing posters seeing things from a personal level, it was an example of my personal experience.

Janiie · 03/09/2023 17:56

'The response he received when talking to/giving a speech to a massive number of Invictus veterans was amazing! They loved what he said. You might wish it, but I can't see him going anywhere. Do hope not.'

They are a strong, joyful enthusiastic 'grab life by the horns' <or whatever the saying is> crowd. I really think anyone could get uo there and get an enthusiastic welcome. These vets aren't ones for wailing and complaining about who the presenter is, they want to compete, have fun, live life.

Maybe he'll fall on his sword then and jump before pushed?

Funny isn't it how some personal experiences are considered more valid than others.

And it is a tad curious that the only posts you seem to have "missed" on this thread are the ones I responded to. I really am not inventing posts to respond to, I swear!😁

jeffgoldblum · 03/09/2023 17:58

What are you implying exactly?

Do be careful
posts from this thread are being re written, as in context taken out and mentioned on another thread

Didn't you discuss boarding school on the other thread about IG?

How on earth can Meghan help what the media and the american public call her? They call here this already.

Say they dropped their titles and she was called Princess Meghan by the country she lives in, (because that is more than likely)... you would say she's a contrary hypocrite?

There is no hope
