Harry loses HRH title

Harry's 'HRH' has reportedly been removed from his listing on the RF website. Seems about time, really? Odd that Meghan's wasn't removed too, perhaps an oversight? Or are they making the changes gradually in the hope that no-one will notice...

TMZ is NOT a serious news agency. It is an entertainment show that centers its topics around Hollywood famous. It does at times break news stories, but I don't know if a single person thinks they are anything other than entertainment.

We see the limited tabloid magazines here, we just don't care.

I believe the confusion (projection?) Of US vs UK anything is a large part of the total equation of the bullshit that surrounds this couple to be frank.

So many people forget that England the America have different styles of everything.

I think your opinion is fair. And I agree, some people believe they did the right thing, and some people don't.

I think that since they released Harry & Meghan Netflix and Harry released his memoir they would make the same decision to talk about their experience again.

And yet they complain about their privacy being invaded but have no qualms doing the same to others. They act no different to the rest of the Markles.

And I think most people even in the UK can differentiate between the guardian or the telegraph versus the daily mail or the sun. Also don't forget that you have your own right wing propaganda there as well in the form of fox news. I recall that they were gleefully reporting when the Monica Lewinsky and bill Clinton affair came to light, and the national enquirer were the ones who broke the story on one of the democrat politicians cheating on his fiancee who was involved in hillary’s presidential campaign.

You may see limited tabloid magazines, but clearly there is a market for tabloid culture in the USA otherwise TMZ, page six, new York post and other celebrity gossip sites wouldn't be so big. Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Britney spears, Lindsay loan, even Angelina jolie, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and plenty more have fueled that tabloid culture.

Gosh, you're likening them to her brother who wears blackface and films himself mocking Meghan, Samantha who insists repeatedly Meghan used surrogates, and Thomas who tries to blackmail his daughter.

Ok 😮👀

Well Harry has worn a nazi costume, called people racist slurs, and both sussexes have tried to monetize their royal connections so not sure what's so different really. Both the sussexes and the markles aren't averse to talking about their famous family members to profit off them.

onlylarkin · 24/08/2023 22:00

I know exactly what happens and I know how it works here in the US. I live here.

I think you are overestimating the interest in tabloid culture in the US , conflating influencers and tabloids and uninformed about willing participation.

Exactly.

I'm just laughing. As I said, can't be taken seriously.

It's very very different. We will, quite obviously, never agree.

That's all I understand

You say they are they have both behaved the same as the brother and sister, there's no more to be said on the subject if that is your view.

I know, to make it worse, there is a huge section of Americans who actually believe in conspiracy theories and who are still willing to elect Donald trump, and who has given rise to the likes of rush limbaugh and Joe Rogan. There are many Americans who consider Fox News to be legitimate news so it’s funny to me that the Americans here try to claim that they don’t have tabloid culture.

onlylarkin · 24/08/2023 23:08

Now I think you are conflating main stream media, tabloid culture and influencers.

I now don't believe you know anything about American politics if you think tabloid culture is why Trump was elected.

I would say how harry has acted towards ethnic minorities and towards his family is just as bad as how the markle brother and sister have acted.

Who was the poster here who mentioned American media and didn't specify they meant American tabloid culture?

I was responding to that post. They also mentioned that unlike the UK, Americans don't care to know about the personal lives and stories of their celebrities unless it affects their own lives which is absolutely BS.

You guys really shouldn't act like you are any better than the UK. There is a lot wrong with your own media as well, and many celebrities have complained about the paparazzi there invading their lives.

onlylarkin · 24/08/2023 23:37

"You guys really shouldn't act like you are any better than the UK. There is a lot wrong with your own media as well, and many celebrities have complained about the paparazzi there invading their lives"

You guys is over 350 million people. It surely can't be all of us acting uppity.

I never said anyone was better than anyone else. I said our cultures are different and that projection could be the cause of a lot of discourse around this couple. I have never once tried to lecture a UK citizen about culture in the UK. Because I know nothing about it.

My opinion still stands.

Serenster · 25/08/2023 07:16

interesting choice of words there. We were told when Eamonn Holmes’s used it that in US it’s seen as an unacceptable word because it’s been used in racist contexts.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 25/08/2023 07:45

Theres no reason this needs to descend into having a go at each others cultures @MamoruHisaishi although I am confused why you're so defensive about UK media and culture, aren't you in Australia? I don't think anyone here has suggested American culture is 'better' but it is different. I think the anti American sentiment in the UK is a big reason for a lot of the negativity in general towards Meghan.

Angrycat2768 · 25/08/2023 08:00

Isn't the US readership of the Mailonline absolutely enormous? They have a whole US version. At one stage, their US readership was keeping the whole thing afloat.

In the early 90s went on a group holiday to Florida and I bought National Enquirer to read around our pool villa. They had all the lurid stories about Charles and Diana that hadn't percolated into the complaint British press. Like her bulimia, the rows, throwing herself down the stairs and much more. Our group laughed at the nonsense of it all and how extreme American gossip seemed to be and this was before mobile phones and the internet. Well it all turned out to be pretty much bang on the money when the Andrew Morton book came out. So trash rags can get it right.

Amazing. We have tabloids here. Who knew? Oh wait no one ever said we didn't.

As for readership, what I am looking at puts the US slightly above the UK in traffic considering we have 330 million people to UKs mere 61 million, I don't think the 2% of extra clicks proves the US has a tabloid culture.

I fact, it think it proves the US has less of a tabloid culture. But heck, what do I know?

I think when people make sweeping statements, that are clearly incorrect they should provide evidence.

People make sweeping statements here all the time, its called opinions. I am entitled to mine.

Did Meghan herself not say that the US doesn’t have tabloids so the U.K. ones were a surprise/ shock ?

SophieTheWonderCat · 25/08/2023 09:03

I would add that one of the things missing from the previous posts is the general lack of interest and knowledge of the average American in anything that goes on outside their country coupled with the belief that the USA is the greatest nation on earth.
