Kate and Williams children overexposed

It is sad to see the children appearing more and more at public events. Yesterday George and Charlotte appeared at wilmbledon and Charlotte gave a player an official coin. Today the children are all over the press.

A few days ago they appeared at the Royal international Air tattoo.
There has been criticism before on the board at the number of appearances thr children make in public. This was said to be temporary due to the death of Elizabeth and Charles as the new king, but it quite clearly is not true.

The children are being increasingly taken to events where William and Kate are working, to help boost the popularity of the Royal family. The children gain nothing from it. I am sure they would have enjoyed the air tattoo far more without a crowd of photographers taking lots of photos of the children.

It's sad to see the children used in this way. So much for giving them a normal childhood.

I think in some ways it's good training since they will have to deal with it their whole lives.

Badger1970 · 17/07/2023 10:30

It's their futures. Better to expose them to it as children and make it "normal" for them and they'll grow up knowing what's expected of them in public.

I think Kate and Will are doing of great job - they're giving the children a very private upbringing in the main, and are slowly but surely letting the media have more access to them but completely on their terms.

alittleadvicepls · 17/07/2023 10:30

I mean they ARE the Royal children and George is next in line. This is their lives (until they pull a Harry).

buzzlightyearsgloves · 17/07/2023 10:32

It's not like they've been dragged to an opening of a building or something. It's mostly sporting events they seem to attend. It's great exposure for them at a light hearted, fun event for them to do with their parents.

PickYourPrince · 17/07/2023 10:32

Charlotte and George looked really excited at Wimbledon yesterday - I’m sure they were thrilled to be there. They were given little gift bags too. The photo of their faces when Alcaraz won is lovely.

FYI on the tennis coverage I saw more of Daniel Craig and Stefan Edberg than the royal kids. What media are you looking at OP?

stealthninjamum · 17/07/2023 10:35

I think wills and Kate probably exchange a few photo opportunities for privacy the rest of the time which seems reasonable to me.

giraggegiraffe · 17/07/2023 10:44

Charles was not wheeled out regularly for photos at events as a child.

George is only 9 and Charlotte is eight. There is plenty of time for them to get used to public life. Using their childhood to boost Royal popularity is far more likely to turn the children away from public life.
Charlotte and George do not look happy when they are having their photo taken as Kate talks to ball boys and girls. Charlotte does not look happy as she hands over the coin.

The adults are despicable to use their children in this way.

They seem pretty happy and comfortable to me. William and Kate seem to be getting it right.

And imagine being brought up to enjoy sports, for example, and getting to go to things like the Wimbledon final!

Inkanta · 17/07/2023 11:07

Yes OP agree - I was thinking that yesterday at Wimbledon. It was a long match and Charlotte can't even cheer on her fave player without it being in the papers. Also, I think there's too much Kate at Wimbledon.

BriocheForBreakfast · 17/07/2023 11:10

She's the president of the All England Tennis Club so she has to be there. She took over from the Duke of Kent

wordler · 17/07/2023 11:10

OP - they looked a little solemn at the air show but maybe that was because they’d been told the significance of the plane they were viewing.

but I don’t know what coverage you were watching they were definitely excited and happy to be at the tennis.

LIZS · 17/07/2023 11:10

Maybe they wanted to go. Players kids younger than them were there and have been before. They get privileged access and can pick and choose. BBC were deliberately limiting shots including them.

EdithWeston · 17/07/2023 11:12

The Air Tattoo was covered by the Royal Rota (ie only 3 people - one print, one, film, one stills photographer, and then everything was pooled) who were there only for a short time during the trip. They were then left alone for the rest of the (official) visit. William and Harry were taken to military tattoos from about the same age (there's a much reproduced on of Harry at one)

These Wales DC are the same age as William and Harry were when they were first taken to Wimbledon by their mother.

I know but there's too much of her.

chopc · 17/07/2023 11:15

My kids would have loved to attend these events - especially sporting events with great seats and access to players when they were the same age!

Cloud9isnowclosed · 17/07/2023 11:17

What do you mean @Inkanta - she attends too much or the cameras are on her too much?

Abra1t · 17/07/2023 11:17

Inkanta · 17/07/2023 11:14

I know but there's too much of her.

She's either too lazy or too over-exposed.

Ohpleeeease · 17/07/2023 11:18

That maybe how you want to see it but from the photos I saw they were clearly having a brilliant time, lots of happy pictures. They had front row seats for a really exciting final, what a great day out for them! Charlotte didn’t look unhappy meeting the coin toss boy, she looked a bit shy, like any little girl of her age.

wordler · 17/07/2023 11:18

Inkanta · 17/07/2023 11:14

I know but there's too much of her.

She went three times over the whole tournament so far - watched roughly 4-5 matches out of 675 played across two weeks.

mateysmum · 17/07/2023 11:19

Blimey OP I think you can relax a bit. Calling William and Catherine despicable is ridiculous. The kids looked to be thoroughly enjoying the tennis yesterday and there were quite a few other kids in the crowd as well, are their parents despicable too?
As for "wheeling them out" for the sake of popularity, that's a pretty cynical view. I think it's much more likely that it is all part of the training for royal life - setting standards and expectations but mixed in with some entertaining events such as the tennis and the air show. Theirs is not and never will be a truly normal life but it is more normal than previous generations of direct heirs. They are clearly a very close and loving family.
If you don't like the royals, just say so don't try and concoct a narrative about W & C as terrible parents.

Badger1970 · 17/07/2023 11:20

She only went 3 days..... Hmm I thought she should have been there more given she's their figurehead.

CurlewKate · 17/07/2023 11:20

I'm a Republican to the core-but I do worry about George. I am the parent of a young adult who was an anxious child and I think I can spot anxiety at a million paces. I'd like to swoop in and adopt him. I do hope they don't send him away to school.

PollyThePixie · 17/07/2023 11:21

I’m always happy to see them out and about. William and Kate appear to be fabulous parents and I trust them to make the correct decisions regarding the children.

she probably went far less than the duke of Kent.

But most people aren't fussed at seeing photos of the duke of kent so the papers/camera people didn't really focus on him much.

Were they? I felt like the BBC kept focusing on Charlotte in particular

They are very lucky, not many children get to go to top sporting events

But we don’t really need to see it that much
