Kate and Williams children overexposed

It is sad to see the children appearing more and more at public events. Yesterday George and Charlotte appeared at wilmbledon and Charlotte gave a player an official coin. Today the children are all over the press.

A few days ago they appeared at the Royal international Air tattoo.
There has been criticism before on the board at the number of appearances thr children make in public. This was said to be temporary due to the death of Elizabeth and Charles as the new king, but it quite clearly is not true.

The children are being increasingly taken to events where William and Kate are working, to help boost the popularity of the Royal family. The children gain nothing from it. I am sure they would have enjoyed the air tattoo far more without a crowd of photographers taking lots of photos of the children.

It's sad to see the children used in this way. So much for giving them a normal childhood.

I'm a Republican to the core-but I do worry about George. I am the parent of a young adult who was an anxious child and I think I can spot anxiety at a million paces. I'd like to swoop in and adopt him. I do hope they don't send him away to school.

It's possible he'll go to Eton - but remember that the family have moved from London to Windsor, so they'll be really nearby. And he isn't being sent to board at prep school age, which means if he goes to Eton, he'll board from age 13.

Which is quite a different prospect to sending an 8yo (as happened with a couple of recent generations - though of course before that the Royals didn't go to school but had governesses and tutors)

She went three times over the whole tournament so far - watched roughly 4-5 matches out of 675 played across two weeks.

Not particularly criticising her - I feel for her having to speak and greet so many people. The Duke of Kent didn't seem to over function like that.

bestbefore · 17/07/2023 11:26

I think Kate should have presented all the medals/ trophies, like the wheelchair ones etc, that would be great exposure for those matches!

It's their futures. Better to expose them to it as children and make it "normal" for them and they'll grow up knowing what's expected of them in public.

I think Kate and Will are doing of great job - they're giving the children a very private upbringing in the main, and are slowly but surely letting the media have more access to them but completely on their terms.

Totally agree with @Badger1970

at times they looked a little bored, but on the whole they looked to be enjoying themselves.

wisely they left cheeky chops at home & I'm sure if they hadn't wanted to attend the older two could have stayed home too.

K&W choose appropriate events for the children to attend. Let them get on with bringing up THEIR kids.

NaughtPoppy · 17/07/2023 11:27

They have to use the kids this way to secure their position and keep the money and lifestyle.
Its like the Youtube families - the audience likes content with kids.

CurlewKate · 17/07/2023 11:27

"William and Kate appear to be fabulous parents."

Do they?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 17/07/2023 11:30

Quite sensible imo. Get them used to crowds & photographers etc from an early age.

MumHereAgain2023 · 17/07/2023 11:30

Not over exposed at all

Lindy2 · 17/07/2023 11:31

They looked to be enjoying the tennis. I saw coverage of the children at a scout event a month or so ago and they looked to be having a blast- Louis particularly.

The state events are part of their life. They still seem quite happy on the balcony and waving from the carriage.

The Corination concert looked to be a lot of fun.

I think they're pretty selective about what the children attend whilst preparing them for future Royal duties.

I'm sure the kids are perfectly fine.

WandaWonder · 17/07/2023 11:32

Sure the media records them but although not exactly the same we did similar things with our child, the media and the people who follow the media then comment about the media following them would only see a small part of their childhood

I call those people armchair 'experts'

StefanosHill · 17/07/2023 11:34

Given the choice I usually go for keep the monarchy

But the children’s incredible privilege stretches me the most that the most out of all elements.

It could be any child sitting there not believing their luck. Someone who wouldn’t have all advantages already.

I agree - it would be good if she were presenting all the trophies.

But she can't win, can she? Because if she went to more than the 4-5 matches that she attended this year, the complaints that she's there too much would increase. But if she added a doubles, a wheelchair and a junior match, I think that would be a great way to get attention to other types than the singles.

The other DC in prime seats were all players children. There isn't going to suddenly be a raft of invitations to children who aren't connected to the tennis world, even if the LTA President's DC are no longer invited

giraggegiraffe · 17/07/2023 11:36

I agree they are acting like Instagram families wheeling the children out for the likes. As I said Charlotte did not look happy when presenting the coin. They did not look happy when meeting the ball boys and girls.

It is terrible parenting.

I know there's another 3 years to go-(4 years? How old is he exactly?) but George looks like a child entirely unsuited to Eton....

skullbabe · 17/07/2023 11:37

Cheeky chops? Ffs. 🙄

And that characterisation is exactly why so many are saying leave the children at home.

Players’ children fine by me. Of course they can watch their parents.

It could stop there.

I am not an anxiety expert but I do work with 9 year olds and he worries me too. Sometimes I think he looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.

eddiemairswife · 17/07/2023 11:39

Do some people think Kate is working when she attends Wimbledon? She has a History of Art degree. I'd like to see her using that in her 'work'.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 17/07/2023 11:39

What's your source for the royal family using the children to boost the families popularity ?

GerbilsForever24 · 17/07/2023 11:43

These threads make me laugh. These children are massively in the public eye. And while we see few photos of them outside of official events, I 100% guarantee that a large part of their lives are spent knowing that someone is taking a picture of them with a phone camera or a long-lens.

so bringing them to fun events where a) they get used to the constant scrutiny and b) they see the upside of all this intrusion seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Ineedwinenow · 17/07/2023 11:49

They went to an air show and tennis! What are you expecting them to do? Lock them away until they are 18! She doesn’t “wheel” them out that often and when the children do attend events it’s usually family friendly ones that children can attend and have ever right to attend.

Obviously the only non family friendly event the recently attended was when their grandad got crowned king but it was a big deal for the family so it was lovely seeing them all together

If you lock your kids away then that’s absolutely fine and your choice but just because they choose to take them out places doesn’t mean they are a bad parent!

My eldest always looked like this, yet he is the most quietly confident and self sufficient adult you could meet. My middle one by contrast was always smiling and outgoing, yet he has recently been diagnosed with depression. I don’t think you can tell by looking at someone what their personality is like. Especially when it is just a few photos or short tv footage

LegendsBeyond · 17/07/2023 11:50

You’re being ridiculous. I would love to have been to the Wimbledon final at their age. It’s better than leaving at home with a nanny. They just can’t win really.

Papernotplastic · 17/07/2023 11:51

The children seem to be going to some official things that are also spectator events, along with their parent/s. That means that there’s something for the children to watch and they’re in public without being the sole focus of the cameras (or the crowd) for most of the time.

I think that it’s rather clever because there’s no rush to get an exclusive shot of the children for the photographers. Everyone gets over an hour to get a photo they’re happy with and each individual photo is pretty worthless because tens of thousands of them will be taken. It’s just not worth any pap stalking them to get ‘candid’ photos when there are unposed pictures of the children everywhere. The photographers are also kept at a good distance.
