Kate and Williams children overexposed

It is sad to see the children appearing more and more at public events. Yesterday George and Charlotte appeared at wilmbledon and Charlotte gave a player an official coin. Today the children are all over the press.

A few days ago they appeared at the Royal international Air tattoo.
There has been criticism before on the board at the number of appearances thr children make in public. This was said to be temporary due to the death of Elizabeth and Charles as the new king, but it quite clearly is not true.

The children are being increasingly taken to events where William and Kate are working, to help boost the popularity of the Royal family. The children gain nothing from it. I am sure they would have enjoyed the air tattoo far more without a crowd of photographers taking lots of photos of the children.

It's sad to see the children used in this way. So much for giving them a normal childhood.

What's your source for the royal family using the children to boost the families popularity ?

It is my opinion. Other Royal children have not been seen so much in public. It is not true that it is necessary.charles was rarely seen in public until he was an adult.

The only reason to wheel out the children is to boost the popularity of the Royal family.

And it is very sad to see the three children already being ascribed public roles. Louis as the cheeky one, Charlotte responsible and looking after her brothers, and George as the shy and quiet one. Terrible. They are children and should be kept out of the public eye as much as possible.

William and Harry rarely appeared at events as children.
Charlotte and George have been at two public events in just a few days. This counts as a working week for adult royals.

I went to public events my mom had to attend at this age. It was always fun. There are cameras at events like this. It can’t be helped.

If you are truly “concerned” then you’ll avoid the publications that print the images and avoid stirring up drama by creating threads about the children.

It’s the summer holidays and there are lots of events on in the summer that children would enjoy. The RIAT and Wimbledon can hardly be moved, can they?

JaneJeffer · 17/07/2023 11:57

If I was Kate I would have been there every day of the fortnight.

AliceOlive · 17/07/2023 11:57

Also, repeating the personalities attributed to them by the media is just spreading these faux characterizations around. I’ve only ever heard the roles you ascribed to them here on MN.

I know but there's too much of her.

She was there 3 times in 2 weeks, wise up!!

I think William and Kate are playing a blinder with the kids - introducing them gradually to public duty, with a lot of privacy and freedom the rest of the time. Leave them alone!

I disagree - they were at the tennis from a similar age, ditto military shows. Plus of course even from infancy television cameras were invited in to show the boys playing in the garden, and there were stills from inside the nursery at Highgrove.
And the Thorpe Park trip (invited photographers) and photocalls on family holidays

There's less exposure of the current Wales than there was of W&H

Though of course with the added Jubilee, funeral and coronation events in quick succession, then there has been more exposure because of that (with sharpened contrast because of the suspension of events in the earlier years of covid)

But overall, the "background" level is down.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 17/07/2023 12:02

So you want the children hidden away from public until what age ? Zara's children are often seen in public , is she doing it wrong too ?

GerbilsForever24 · 17/07/2023 12:02

I guess you're not aware of an entirely different media culture when Charles was a child? The world in which Charlotte and George are being brought up is completely and totally different to the world in which Charles was brought up - in terms of both the way royals were treated/what was expected of them AND in terms of what was considered normal/acceptable in terms of exposure.

And let's not forget that when Charles was Charlotte's age, every time he left the palace he didn't have to contend with every person having a camera on them to take a picture. There was much less media so lots of people wouldn't have even known what he looked like etc etc etc.

Canthave2manycats · 17/07/2023 12:05

@giraggegiraffe - "Charles was not wheeled out regularly for photos at events as a child"

Do you remember when Charles was a child?!! Children were supposed to be seen and not heard then. I think times may have moved on a little bit??!

You’re joking right?

Diana was always taking them with her to work events - and she’s had a lot of praise for that - for including them where the late Queen just left her kids home with nannies.

Here’s William at Wimbledon

For them it is already school holidays, they've been taken to an airshow and a tennis final, things that other parents wouldn't think twice before doing.
As for Charles not being trotted out as a child, he is on record saying that his mother was distant during his childhood, maybe this is W & K's way of spending more time as a family. Also, it was different times, no one would have expected to see a child at a public engagement. Charles was educated by a governess before attending school at 8, he was the first heir to go to school. I know which childhood appears the most normal so why don't you wind your neck in.

I would say Charles had an absolutely abnormal childhood , never went anywhere fun with his parents ,sent away in the remote highlands , never participated in fun days out . I would say the Waleses children have a whale of a time when they go out together .

StefanosHill · 17/07/2023 11:24

Were they? I felt like the BBC kept focusing on Charlotte in particular

They are very lucky, not many children get to go to top sporting events

But we don’t really need to see it that much

I thought there were far more shots of Djokovic’s son. George and Charlotte both play tennis and Charlotte clearly was enjoying the match , loved the shot today if her looking through her fingers on one of the crucial points .

Isthisreasonable · 17/07/2023 12:12

giraggegiraffe · 17/07/2023 11:36

I agree they are acting like Instagram families wheeling the children out for the likes. As I said Charlotte did not look happy when presenting the coin. They did not look happy when meeting the ball boys and girls.

It is terrible parenting.

OP are your kids/yourself constantly happy and smiling when you're out and about? Should we expect them to be stepford children?

wordler · 17/07/2023 12:14

Yeah they were having a miserable time alright

Get to see the Wimbledon final for free. At their age I'd have loved it, and probably the air show too.

I have no doubt they enjoy it, many children would. They could do something along the same lines as choosing a child for the coin toss, then they could be that lucky

I can’t say I get the enjoyment people have from seeing Charlotte or George or the youngest one

Really can’t relate to that, they just look like normal children just incredibly privileged

Are your kids happy all the time? I'm a republican but thought the kids were having a great time. Possibly it went on a bit too long though.

Serenster · 17/07/2023 12:28

The Duke of Kent didn't seem to over function like that.

And straight away I can tell you are not a habitual fan of Wimbledon… The Duke and Duchess of Kent watched loads of matches from the Royal box in the 1970s-1990s and also used to attend the gala winners ball.

As for the armchair child development experts - honestly!

CurlewKate · 17/07/2023 12:28

@Canthave2manycats "Do you remember when Charles was a child?!! Children were supposed to be seen and not heard then. I think times may have moved on a little bit??!"

He was 12 in 1960. Not a time famous for children being seen and not heard!

BoohooWoohoo · 17/07/2023 12:29

I think that they picked good events tI take the kids to. They are very lucky being able to watch events like the Wimbledon Final.
Since they wont be allowed to have social anxiety and dodge events, it's best that they get used to it now. Introducing them to it later when people expect adult standards of confidence will be more daunting since they will be the age where they can see social media comments.
If they'd been jumping around and happy on the plane then anti-Wales people would be saying that it was inappropriate.
