Ha! I was just listening on radio 4 and thought the same.

That’s where I heard it - I’m stunned. Knew they lived off us but had no idea just to what extent. £360k is an insane “salary” just fo be married to the queen 😳

He was an outstanding naval man and if he hadn't married the queen would likely have been first sea lord or chief of the defence staff. "Wandering around the world" was of immense frustration to him. He would have been far happier being able to do what he loved and excelled at. They hadn't anticipated the Queen's father dying so young, assumed he'd be able to work for many years.

Tbh I am quite surprised that the queen's spouse was getting less than various chat show hosts.

My point was, that Philip would far far FAR rather have been able to work in his field and earn his own money and it's a bit mean spirited to characterise him as a lazy racist wondering around "milking the cow" and laughing all the way to the bank, when the man gave up the career he loved and excelled in to serve the British people (as he saw it) which he then did for 70 plus years.

this payment was set up before the sovereign grant - hand recieved it for about 6 years after that was set up and died with him.

I didn’t hear the programme - are you saying old racist Phil was paid 360 K every year he breathed or only when doing ( vv closely managed I’d imagine) ‘royal ‘ tours?
Was he paid 360K in his 80s and 90s ?

Actually I’ve looked it up - I could easily have guessed of course knowing the greed of the Windsors.

Yes it seems Phil was paid 360 K from the taxpayer each and every year right up to his death .
He ‘retired’ in 2017 but taxpayers were required to continue to pay out it seems . Why?
Could a royalist who defended all this by trying the old line ‘ they work so hard’ explain this please ?
