He got paid £360k for wandering around the world being a racist!!! Fuck me they truly do milk the cow don’t they 😳.

Camilla is not going to be paid - how will she get by? 🙄

My point was, that Philip would far far FAR rather have been able to work in his field and earn his own money

Really? So why did he marry a future Queen? Why did he accept this money when he had no need for it? I don't buy the narrative that he did us some huge favour, he himself said anyone can cut ribbons and walk about. He accepted this money even when he was not 'working' and well past the age he was doing anything like what they did when they were younger. He should not have accepted this money, regardless of whatever he perceived he gave up 'for the public'.

As I said earlier. They did not expect her father to die so young. While he was married to the heir he was able to work. He was only 29 when he had to give up his career as she ascended to the throne.

ItWasntMyFault · 15/07/2023 09:22

By my calculation he cost each tax payer 1p per year. I'm not going to worry about that.

Was the money an allowance for expenses or actual salary?

Expenses on top. Free accommodation, travel, security, etc.

So? he still would have had to give it up sometime, she was always going to be Queen. he knew that.

do you do that with every cost? The point is it is money he should not have got, he didn't need and could be better spent on people that do need it.

Do you have to pay for your work expenses then?

If we had a president or similar they'd be using tax payers money to fund work events and have a taxpayer paid salary....

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2023 10:01

Didn't he create Duke of Edinburgh scheme?

When is it my turn to get 1p a year from each taxpayer?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/07/2023 10:18

Not sure why "Camilla isn't being paid" is being chucked around, when instead of Philip's £360k she has access to the Sovereign Grant and of course the Duchy income

Considering the way the revenues from both have exploded I doubt she'll be short of the price of the fags any time soon

we have a PM and Mp's who we pay expenses for.

Right? I'd like that too. Since its only 1p each person and isn't as big deal. I mean heck, lets give more money away to billionaires while we are at it!

She is not collecting this allowance as well as everything else, which Philip was, including after he 'retired' from his pretend job.

And I doubt we'd have to provide 27 palaces, estates, castles for a President's family to live in and pay for all the extended family in some way or another.

Plus security. An unknown amount that won't be divulged because there would be an outcry. So for "security" reasons we are not allowed to know. What problem to their security would it be to tell us the amount I.Do.Not.Know.

Kabbalah · 15/07/2023 10:59

He should have worked for the BBC, he'd had got a hell of a lot more.

the extended family thing bothers me, its ridiculous.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 15/07/2023 11:17

Thanks @Roussette I haven't read it I don't think, will probably make me mad!

Alighttouchonthetiller · 15/07/2023 21:39

He's dead. Do you want your 1p refund? Or do you want to dig him up and shout at him for a bit?

Jesus. Is this really all you have to moan about?

Madamecastafiore · 15/07/2023 22:02

Don't think it's a lot considering how many years he worked. Ex PMs get around £120k per year regardless of how long they served!

Yeah, dig him up and hang him like the king did with Oliver Cromwell. Hang him. Hang him. And then give me my 1p back. I'll send you a stamped addressed envelope to send it to me in. It'll only cost me 75p. Very reasonable. 😂

Flibbertigibbettytoes · 15/07/2023 22:13

It's grotesque and I can't wait til we get rid of the whole lot. And I can see they are entitled grifters doing exactly what you'd expect, but I genuinely can't get my head round people defending it.
And.the arguments are so shaky

  1. Poor lamb didn't want the job > could have not done it / retired and stopped taking the cash
  2. It would be worse with a president > depends on presidential model
  3. Harry is worse - it's not a competition, they can all fuck off
FrivolousTreeDuck · 16/07/2023 00:41

Did you only start paying tax in 2020? He owes me 26p.

Oops sorry. You send me a 2nd class stamp, I'll provide the envelope, and I'll send you your 26p out of my own pocket. I can't say fairer than that.
