Are they considered close friends? And Gayle, Oprah's bestie, is she still on side H&M...she appears to have gone quiet.
Or has the now known lies from their Oprah interview changed their friendship I wonder?
It all seemed so pally but did it stand the test of time?

It was made clear that interview was there to clarify why they left and what took place in that process as there were so many stories.

I didn't pay much attention beforehand to be honest, always been a fan of Harry and Meghan seemed accomplished with lots of aspirations so as I said I wrongly assumed.

I found it interesting that one of the little bridesmaids at their wedding was the daughter of Robbie Williams. Just wondered how that came about but I didn't lose any sleep over it.

I thought she was a bride auto Eugenie not Meghan ?

It was their spin on why they left . As has been said many times , had the late Queen allowed their half in half out proposal they wound still be here !

Oprah did them up like kippers

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 02/07/2023 10:32

I think they’ve made Oprah look like a fool but others I’m sure have different opinions. If we all had the same opinion discussions would be very boring.

continentallentil · 02/07/2023 10:36

They aren’t friends, Oprah is running a business, H and M were trying to establish one.

It’s not that unusual in celeb world to invite random celebs to your wedding. It gives everyone helpful press coverage, so no, I doubt they really knew people like the Clooneys, how would they really? Maybe they’d met once or twice at some charity thing.

Actually that was another royal wedding with lots of random celebs

She’s a human being who has demonstrated poor judgment as well as excellent business skills. I don’t see why she deserves a hagiographic approach. Plenty of people do both good things and bad, and get excoriated for the bad (on these very boards too!).

No one is perfect Serenster. Obviously.

Morestrangerthings · 02/07/2023 10:43

And Oprah has done a LOT of good.

but as I said, just concentrate on the negative things about anyone who just may be a friend to Meghan.

I genuinely don’t agree with this.

They wanted their say. Oprah gave them a platform to have their say. They have had their say, many would say way more say than was warranted now they have said all they need to they will have to move forward or get consumed completely by what happened. That is their choice.

I don’t think they were friends of Oprah or that they ever will be.

No-one is interested in Harry’s feelings of service and duty anymore it comes across as incredibly patronising now he has taken himself off the elevated royal platform. He needs to find new direction and purpose in his life now.

I thought Harry did an excellent job narrating his book maybe looking at something like that.

GuttedAgai · 02/07/2023 11:06

They are all out for themselves. "Friendship" is a corporate collaboration for as long as it serves its purpose.

Immediately after HMTQ death O staged a one off interview with Gayle to distance herself from the contents and sentiment of the H&M interview - she was positioning it as she had no idea of what would come up and that it was such a bombshell.

She was happy to stand close to it / then for 18 months and then in the morning of HMTQ death flipped and went all self protective.

MarcelProust · 02/07/2023 11:20

Or maybe she really did not know the extent of it all.

She said it even before the interview.

Oprah is not doing a Spanish inquisition. She is there to give a safe space for those who we're battered by the media with all sorts of stories to have their say. She gives them the platform to talk, agree or debunk what has been said by lots of media. That is the format.

With Adele/ Jennifer Hudson etc.

Helendegenerate · 02/07/2023 11:21

@Mylovelygreendress

You are correct! My mistake 😐

I am not criticising her giving them a platform.

I am observing that on the morning of HMTQ death she felt the need to set up a high profile interview to distance herself from it.

It says much about OW that she felt the need to do that.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 02/07/2023 11:54

It wasn't an interview. It was flattery exercise. OW like H&M thought it would lead to megabucks. It hasn't. OW didn't need anymore money so she has lost nothing, except may be some credibility. H&M have lost nearly everything. Its all their own doing and they are adults, so I don't feel sorry for them, I do feel very sorry for their DC who ironically have less privacy than their cousins it seems.

Oprah only ever offers space for conversation. She doesn’t not do judgment interviews. Look at Lance Armstrong.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 02/07/2023 12:02

Challenging and exploring statements is not judgment though. The LA situation was totally incomparable, he gave that interview because he had lied for years and was admitting it. The M&H interview was a series of provable lies.

Highandlows · 02/07/2023 12:52

Oprah lost many fans after the interview. She is old enough to know the game very well. She knows better. However, it seems that Meghan leaves a path of destruction on her way. Meghan fooled many people and whoever did not buy into her fake mess was exposed and vilified. What a gem 💎

Roussette · 02/07/2023 13:13

Morestrangerthings · 02/07/2023 10:09

Anything to discredit Meghan. I’ve noticed that people will to great lengths to discredit anyone who has anything to do with Meghan.

Oh yes. Anyone who said anything in support of H&M would be immediately vilified on here. There are a lot of new Taylor Swift fans on MN (not for her music, but because she turned down an Archetypes podcast lol)

Oprah no doubt regrets her association with Weinstein. I have a huge amount of respect for her, her philanthropic endeavours are just amazing. She has three main charitable foundations and she has given millions.

Chocolateship · 02/07/2023 13:19

I was interested in what Harry and Meghan would do next following their exit, it came across like they had big plans but when it became clear the moneyspinner was trashing his family I think lots of people couldn't be arsed.

Jazzyjezzabelle · 02/07/2023 13:24

Can’t grasp why folks are attacking Oprah, someone’s even said she was part of the mud slinging, she did and interview, she wasn’t interviewed, the words were harry and Meghan.

why are folks always looking for someone to blame for harry and Meghan behaviour, now it’s Oprahs fault 😂

HeddaGarbled · 02/07/2023 13:45

Because she worked very hard grooming them for her scoop over a number of years. It’s naive to say she just provides “a space” and deluded to consider it “a safe space”. She wanted her big bang interview and she sure got it, and many people have been injured by the fall out, but not Oprah nor her pals/business associates.

GuttedAgai · 02/07/2023 13:47

@Roussette - curious about your claim that there are now more new Taylor Swift fans on MN - where did you get this data?

Oprah is a huge huge name, there's no reason she'd need to "groom" them in order for her to be an appealing interviewer. A platform with Oprah, especially in the US is the best there is. I think the papers were harsh bringing Taylor Swift into it, she doesn't ever really do interviews and especially not podcasts yet they made it sound like she snubbed them because of who they are. Which might be the case of course, but probably not.
