Omid Scobie writing tell all book

CosmosQueen · 29/06/2023 07:23

The biographer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexwarned that his next book will reveal moments that the Royal family should be “ashamed of”.
Omid Scobie claimed he was one of few journalists writing about the Royal family whose work was impartial and “spin-free”

As such, he said his forthcoming book, provocatively titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, would focus on the negative as much as the positive and would shine a light on “unsolved mysteries”
“Endgame not only looks at the successes of our Royal family but also the failures; the things to be proud of and those they should be ashamed of,” he wrote in the I newspaper

Just when will this end? I feel so sorry for their poor children who will have to live with the knowledge that their parents and his obnoxious individual were prepared to do anything to make money.

Isn't this the guy who didn't realise Scotland was part of the United Kingdom?

That was weird because his dad's Scottish.

Omid Scobie is 40! I thought he was in his early 20s. I wonder if it's genetic or he has a cosmetologist. I wish he'd give their name. I'd go see them.

He’s had a LOT of plastic surgery.

@MrsLeonFarrell
“I'd be interested in a well researched, well written book about the institution of monarchy and how it has evolved to its present day form”

This is the book you need in that case :

‘And What Do You Do ‘

by Norman Baker

Thanks for the recommend, I'll look for it.

I think for a board that discusses, at some length, the ramblings of people like Morgan, Bower, Levin and various articles in media outlets owned by Murdoch, its quite funny that Omid Scobie is the one writer people won't read.

Ironically Scobie is the only one out of that list I have read because I sort books for a charity shop and Finding Freedom came in. I didn't read much of it though I admit. I haven't read anything of the others except a few news articles. Like all gossipers (and I'd include Scobie in that description) they seem to have picked a side and stick to it.

grass321 · 30/06/2023 06:18

He’s had a LOT of plastic surgery.

IMO, he looked way better before. He looks plastic, a bit like Ken from Barbie.

I wonder at what point H&M will fall out with him and he's left in a hole, journalistically? Perhaps he can rebuild his credibility over time.

I agree a historian is probably best placed to write a book that's worth reading, not least because historians usually like facts and see the value in evidence which supports their claims instead of idle gossip or third when information.

As it stands I suspect like the majority of others on this thread that this book will not offer an unbiased viewpoint and will be yet another one sided look giving no credible viewpoint on the subject it's professing to be discussing without bias.

I would love to read Lucy Worsley on the whole matter. But then also, historians LOVE to gossip.

Our history department common room was full of all the worst tabloids, plus Heat, Hello etc.

There's evidence in gossip, but more in the motivations of the teller than the content itself!

I was reading yesterday that he lied about his age too! Said he was 33 or similar when he is 42 or thereabouts.

goldierocks · 30/06/2023 11:51

It's very strange. Omid Scobie's birthday is always listed as 4th July, but bio websites cannot agree on the year! I've seen 1981, 1982, and 1989.

In a Times article from 2020, the author states Omid told him he was 33 - Source

The original article is HERE

What we know for sure from his recent testimony at the current court case (against MGN) is that he worked for the People in 2002. Being born in 1989 seems unlikely, as that would have made him 13 years old at the time of his "work experience as a journalism student".

His entry at Companies House says he was born in 1981, making him 42 (43 next week). Companies House have given notice that his company will be struck off due to overdue accounts. Source.

Omid Scobie’s rise from Heat reporter to Harry and Meghan’s biographer

For someone who insists that he does not relish being in the public eye, Omid Scobie does not hesitate to step into the limelight. The royal writer, who is often described as a cheerleader for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, did so twice in the past wee...

So he's either very confused or a big ole fibber. I think his connection to Meghan is through his ex boyfriend Marcus Anderson (who was with her on her recent hike set up). If Harry and Meghan don't talk to him, how did he know that TRF hadn't contacted them after the recent car chase hoax?

pilates · 30/06/2023 12:58

Big ole fibber - birds of a feather and all that

Exmaghag · 30/06/2023 13:01

I'm a longtime MN user but have changed my name for this to avoid people working out who I am.

I worked with Omid at Heat. He's in his 40s now, 100%. When he surfaced as a Royal reporter I didn't believe it was the same person - he's unrecognisable now. At Heat he was actually a lovely lad, very quiet, shy and unassuming and a really hard worker. Not the best writer, but not the worst either.

Morestrangerthings · 30/06/2023 13:25

Exmaghag. It’s nice to read that he has a previous co worker who thought him lovely enough to stick up for him. Thanks for sharing this.

Omid will have a lot of dirt on the Sussexes so I suspect that he will be kept sweet with Sussex exclusives so that he can remain a royal commentator.

ILikeDinosaurs · 01/07/2023 00:06

Almost as bad as those people who insist H and M were forced to flee abuse when the truth was that they didn’t get their own way !

To be fair, neither parties got their own way. H&M left rather than carry on working for the palace, thereby forcing the other members to get up and do some work. And H&M didn't get their deal, which I personally think was an attempt at compromise to protect their mental health (and I do believe they were abused badly by the press).

Fair point. Although if H&M were to part ways at any point, he'd have to pick his side (I'm guessing Meghan).

That said, H&M fall out with people regularly - the RF, staff, Jessica Mulroney. I appreciate that journalists tend to be pro/anti the RF, with the associated contacts, but he's been the mouthpiece for a number of inaccurate claims.

And I don't think H&M would think twice about him being collateral damage if it suited their agenda. Although it's lifted him from near obscurity to a seat on the gravy train.

How much more work did the Sussexes actually do? Meghan fell pregnant shortly after her wedding, and went on maternity leave months later. As for wanting to leave to protect their mental health due to press bullying, has it changed anything for them? If anything, they're not only getting bad press now from the British media but also from non tabloid US news agencies. Even the guardian has been posting articles critical of them.

They didn’t really do much at all but the hope was they would start working as the Gloucesters and Kents retired.

😂😂😂 Wonder if he said that with a straight face. He's the Sussexes unofficial mouthpiece there's no way he's impartial.

I think that was the hope too. And you're right, they didn't actually do much in those 2yrs. IMO, they shouldn't have done much anyway. The sensible plan should have been to take time before stepping up as Senior Working Royals after a few years. It all started tits up after the insistence of "hitting the ground running". They didn't need to, and it opened them up to full on Press scrutiny from the off.
