Omid Scobie writing tell all book

1000 replies

CosmosQueen · 29/06/2023 07:23

The biographer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexwarned that his next book will reveal moments that the Royal family should be “ashamed of”.
Omid Scobie claimed he was one of few journalists writing about the Royal family whose work was impartial and “spin-free”

As such, he said his forthcoming book, provocatively titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, would focus on the negative as much as the positive and would shine a light on “unsolved mysteries”
“Endgame not only looks at the successes of our Royal family but also the failures; the things to be proud of and those they should be ashamed of,” he wrote in the I newspaper

Just when will this end? I feel so sorry for their poor children who will have to live with the knowledge that their parents and his obnoxious individual were prepared to do anything to make money.

I used to work for the Daily Mail AMA and yes it’s royal related. Absolutely genuine. I lasted a day and a half before I got the sack.

Howsimplywonderful · 29/06/2023 10:30

@Hohohogreenjennie

Meghan admitted in court to feeding information to Omid for his last book, despite earlier declaring it all lies and saying she hadn’t contributed to it

so who knows ?

I remember Omid declaring that the Queen’s body was travelling to London by train for the funeral which was complete nonsense so I’m guessing someone likes messing with him.

I imagine omid thought when writing the book that by August 2023 the Sussex’s would be riding high living their best lives and the RF would be in crisis. But it’s actually turned out to be the other way round!

I think there is some truth in this - all this current stuff that has come out in the last few weeks has been astounding in the sheer quantity and the contributors. It's almost like once one revelation comes out others are not afraid to do so. I'm surprised by how much in the doldrums the Sussexes's public image is right now. I would imagine that all of this is a bit tiresome if they are indeed trying to find a new way forward. Things have a habit of catching up with you when you least expect them. This book would be the last thing they would possibly want just now but here it is - painting possibly the Sussexes as whingers again by association.

Does anyone else remember when a bunch of royal reporters got tricked into commenting about the Oprah interview before it aired? Its weird theres such a focus on the board about Omid's 'lies', but the same scrutiny and criticisms aren't levelled at all the other reporters? Who are often quoted here as sources of facts or truth. A few of them are also friends with royals, remember they thanked Piers Morgan? Clarkson is a friend of Camilla's? Camilla's son works for the Mail on Sunday. Its just so odd that none of the anti M & H crowd have an issue with any of that.

I think it's because this thread is about Omid Scobie's book. There was a thread at the time about what you're post is about, when it was current.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 29/06/2023 10:16

Not sure I would read it, but it is interesting to see the responses to it. He's a royal reporter like all the others who have written books, theres been plenty of threads on the gossip contained in other books and posters who take that gossip as gospel and repeat it here all the time. I see this in the same way, only that very few royal reporters go against the royal family and the institution in this way. Its their job and they need a good enough relationship if they want to continue to write about them. Perhaps Omid won't be a royal reporter for much longer! Depending on the contents. Who knows, but to dismiss him because he is one of the only royal reporters not jumping on the anti harry and Meghan train is rather odd, to say the least. I think one of the things I have already read, from an article by him yesterday, regarding Kate going through an awful lot of press secretaries, I think it was 5? Within 6 years. It is weird this isn't reported on given the time and attention given to Harry and Meghan going through staff, as if it was out of the ordinary and somehow a mark against them. Its much discussed on this forum. Its another example of the higher standards set for Meghan in particular. I wonder why that could be.

I can’t say I have been particularly drawn to Omid Scobie when I have seen snippets of him on tv, but you make good points there Iwantcakeeveryday - there does seem to be a sort of protective ball around the main players in the institution through which mainstream journalists can’t or won’t penetrate.

Or stories about them are spun in such a way that they are brushed over. So for example Camilla can go off to as many “tweaks & retreats” in NY and India as she likes and they are only fleetingly remarked upon.

So it is good to have one or two journalists batting for the other side as it were but not sure OS’s writing skills are good enough!

At least as you say though he is brave enough to report against the establishment. I’ve no doubt that certain doors are closed to you when you do.

Howsimplywonderful · 29/06/2023 10:44

I’d rather a book from someone who is not on either side ?

Someone like Lucy Worsley or Tom Holland as mentioned above. Tom is a republican so would take a hard hitting view.

Roussette · 29/06/2023 10:49

Yes exactly! Why people are so worked up about this one book when it's wall to wall royal books either about how awful H&M are, or how wonderful the RF is.

"I’ve no doubt that certain doors are closed to you when you do*

Absolutely. I read only this morning that one slightly critical article and you're taken off the circulation list for upcoming royal visits. The RF wield enormous power as far as what's written about them. It's only when the story is bigger and can guarantee clicks that it gains legs (M&H, Andrew & Epstein, carrier bags of cash for honours)

DollyTheFluffyOne · 29/06/2023 10:53

EllaRaines · 29/06/2023 10:17

The working title of the book was Lies, lies and more lies.

Maybe it was reminiscent of his starting out position in Heat magazine.

WinnieTheW0rm · 29/06/2023 10:56

When I first saw that the book would "shine a light", my first thought was "oh cripes, not again"

Morestrangerthings · 29/06/2023 10:56

"Ingrid Seward, said of the Duchess of Sussex, “to my mind this was an actress giving one of her great performances – from start to finish, Meghan was acting”, despite not having seen the interview."

This was it @Iwantcakeeveryday

4 of them. They got paid for it too apparently. Pretending to have seen the OW interview.

What was very interesting too, was how they portrayed Meghan. I've seen some posters on here put forward similar portrayals of Meghan. Actually the whole thing was interesting. That they are still commenting after being exposed is pretty wild. That anyone takes any notice of them now is even wilder.

I think the Royal Family, as well as Harry and Megan, would probably have had a giggle.

Balham Donkeys

I had trouble linking this so hopefully I've got it right.

Yes didn't Tom Bradby say he got shut out by William after the South African interview? Which he claims he had no idea how it would turn out. There aren't entire threads full of posters pulling apart and critiquing or rubbishing other royal reporter articles and books, as much as some might claim it, it doesn't happen. Their words are used here like they're the actual truth. People have taken something a couple of people have said publicly about them and turned it into a huge 'everything is over for them now' situation, thread after thread of people discussing what they're going to do now its all such a disaster apparently, and no such equivalent threads exist when any of the other royals fuck up. Im thinking of cash for honours, helping people get visas, the Guardian Cost of the Crown series revelations, that Caribbean tour disaster, Kate going through staff, Camilla's friend writing sexually violent fantasies about Meghan... Its just super interesting how ready people are to delight in what they think is the destruction of a couples life and dreams, and how unwilling they are to even read about what the institution they fled from might actually be like. I think people like the fantasy, the fairytale, and aren't too keen on anyone that bursts that bubble.

SeeingSpots · 29/06/2023 11:04

I'd love to read book on the institution that was an honest non bias account I'm sure lots of people would especially those interested in history but we're not getting that with this book or any of the books that have already been written.

This book will be no less of a fairytale fantasy with an agenda than any that have preceded it by any author and to think otherwise just because this author says he's impartial is just silly.

Roussette · 29/06/2023 11:05

Great post @Iwantcakeeveryday

Such tunnel vision when ONLY M&H are scrutinised in such forensic detail. All the rest seems to pass some by

WinnieTheW0rm · 29/06/2023 11:05

None of the royal rota, including Scobie

I don't think Scobie is part of the royal rota - that's a UK based pool system for sharing coverage of events (so they don't all have to send staff). I'm not sure if he's a staffer for anyone at the moment

upinaballoon · 29/06/2023 11:07

"Tell all"? I thought we'd had a lot of 'tell-alls' already. You'd have thought it had all been told.

Some posters on here write posts which are carefully written and spelled and punctuated. It lessens my despair about the state of written English. Thank you to those of you who do.

Talking of actresses, which you were up-thread, I thought there were three actresses in that Oprah interview. I said so at the time although I wasn't a poster then.

I think Roussette is right when she says these threads are so predictable.

And if the late Queen had allowed their half in/ half out wishes , I doubt if we would have heard any complaints!

We would have. It would never be enough for them. She could have granted them the moon on a stick and they would still moan it sometimes shines on the Wales family.

The royal rota isn't a club of individuals at all. It's the press pooling arrangement for royal engagements (usually the ones which don't attract much attention otherwise and not every outlet would send someone along to)

dontchaknow · 29/06/2023 11:25

A bit off topic I know, but how many people make a living writing and talking about the Sussexes? If Harry and Meghan had just buggered off to the quiet private life they professed to want, there'd be a awful lot of people scrabbling around for work, including Scobie. And
I'm trying to imagine what could possibly be in a new tell all after the Oprah, Netflix and Spare tell alls.

But this is about the Monarchy, not an H&M tell all.

About how the Institution can survive

Iwantcakeeveryday · 29/06/2023 11:28

They never ever said that! This is such a good example of repeating a lie and it becoming the truth.

RoundandRounnnd · 29/06/2023 11:32

I’ll certainly support this publishing project, much like I did with Spare, even if I don’t actually read it. It seems to infuriate the vocal minority. I’m sure it will be a best-seller with those that claim to dislike H&M being the first to place their orders and reserve at the library.

I can't believe this person is a journalist. The lack of basic grammar is diabolical!! Let's hope someone made a quick cut 'N paste job of the article. OS has cockroach qualities and has connections otherwise he'd be schlepping around for online news.

I think it's because this thread is about Omid Scobie's book. There was a thread at the time about what you're post is about, when it was current.

any reason to start a thread to bash them. a book that has most likely not even be written yet. just a reason to have another bash. palace leaks are just brushed over.
