Omid Scobie writing tell all book

1000 replies

CosmosQueen · 29/06/2023 07:23

The biographer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexwarned that his next book will reveal moments that the Royal family should be “ashamed of”.
Omid Scobie claimed he was one of few journalists writing about the Royal family whose work was impartial and “spin-free”

As such, he said his forthcoming book, provocatively titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, would focus on the negative as much as the positive and would shine a light on “unsolved mysteries”
“Endgame not only looks at the successes of our Royal family but also the failures; the things to be proud of and those they should be ashamed of,” he wrote in the I newspaper

Just when will this end? I feel so sorry for their poor children who will have to live with the knowledge that their parents and his obnoxious individual were prepared to do anything to make money.

The narrative existed about Meghan though. That she was mean to Kate, inappropriate, not doing things the way she should etc and Harry simply shared she was different and a lot friendlier at first with people than his family. The issues were over minor things that people should have brushed off.

It didn’t, the origin was H&M’s Netflix documentary. I think Meghan’s intent was just to joke about a cultural difference between Britain vs the US that would play well for an American audience, like “we’re warm, we’re huggers, they’re awkward and reserved” (that’s how they like to see themselves). But she said it about a named person and that turned it into mean and shaming. Then it was picked up on by loads of people who have it in for Kate to ‘prove’, see, she’s a cold-hearted bitch just like I thought. And then other people thought actually I wouldn’t like to be put in that situation, Meghan seems kinda over-familiar. So the “narrative” you refer to is really just a point of view that some people hold, and the source about the hugging is Meghan herself.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 08:50

@Mylovelygreendress

I so agree, but this is also a culture thing. Americans think they need to fix us all.

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 08:52

@tigger2022 , coming from a self confessed Meghan fan , I find your post both sensible and balanced. 😊

MrsLeonFarrell · 06/07/2023 08:55

The longer this whole story is analysed the more I have come to believe that the person most at fault is Harry. He doesn't seem to have taken any time to have explained to Meghan what life would be like in the royal family. I have lots of American friends and chatting with them it is clear that they really have no idea how the whole thing operates. They don't appreciate how the relationship between the monarchy and the press and the public works and why the public expect certain things from the family. Meghan may or may not have been keen on Princess Diana but I don't think anyone on the outside can't really know what it is like to marry into that institution.

All the tiny incidents that Harry brought up in his book seem to me to be trying to shift the blame for Meghan finding the whole thing stressful from himself to anyone else he could find. He met someone he loved and he thrust them into a new, difficult life with very little preparation and instead of taking time to find a rhythm he did the whole hit the ground running thing. William and Catherine got a lot of flak for being lazy after they got married and had children but I wonder if all that time they took helped Catherine acclimatise.

Only yesterday people who are critical were told to stop harping on and talking about events from years ago yet - today? It seems OK for some posters to talk about events from years ago as if they have intimate knowledge of it and despite the fact it was years ago! Is there a new set of rules as what can be posted or talked about today? I didn't get that memo.

Half the time she gets blamed for things that were 100% Harry’s doing, but in this case it originated from her!

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 09:00

@MrsLeonFarrell , that's always been my stance , I blame Harry squarely for all this nonsense, he should have known the protocols he grew up with , he should have explained what was expected, he should have been a more supportive husband!

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 09:03

Yes @tigger2022 , coming from you , I'm more inclined to agree , as you know , I'm fairly neutral about m and don't like to comment about her if I can help it but I'm no fan of Harry , I blame him squarely for most of these 'mistakes' .

It also seems to me that Meghan is now trying to move on and make a new life in the US whereas Harry seems still stuck in the past and a bit lost, I hope his Africa documentary works out. He seems a bit hard work as husband go.

Recent photos/videos of Kate have shown her successfully abseiling, scuba diving, sailing, playing the piano, winning an award for photography, displaying a watercolour and most recently playing tennis with a world champion.

Meghan has been photographed smiling while wearing a hat and sunglasses again.

It's not surprising that she feels envious enough to attempt a bit of shade throwing, but it's clumsy and obvious.

She has kept out the limelight to no doubt stop posts like yours!
And the media going absolutely beserk with 35 articles in one paper in 24 hours.

Even if she is quiet (which she is) there is criticism.

I agree. I think a lot of the problem is that the small details of being a Royal were not clearly explained. Harry probably gave a general idea of big events and state occasions, but it’s all the little things that come as a surprise. To be fair to him, they are so normal in his world that it would not have occurred to him that they needed explaining. Coupled with that he would not really have a clear insight as to what specific details applied to the women in the family (dress codes etc which thankfully seem to be changing a bit since QEii passed away). The whole thing was massively rushed and so far away from the Disney idea of royalty that it would not be surprising if Meghan was disappointed with the actual reality of being a royal.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/07/2023 09:23

She has definitely been quiet recently so thank goodness Backgrid were on hand to take photos of the family at an Independence Day event ! I wonder if they will sue the American tabloids for not pixalating the children faces ?

This out of date statistic from last year keeps getting repeated - it's meaningless.

Kate will have had a similar amount of articles, so will J-Lo, Beyonce, the Kardashians, Taylor Swift. Its not a metric to use as its pretty pointless.

Wheresthebeach · 06/07/2023 09:30

Their relationship was very much a whirlwind of romantic holidays - I think their third date was a week in Botswana and they were also living in different countries. Very little 'real world' time and a very Disney romance. I do wonder if Harry didn't brief her properly after the Chelsea breakup. It must have seem like a dream come true for MM. And then reality hit (and Harry is blaming everyone but himself).

The observation about W&K taking time out, being accused of laziness at the time is a good point. They established themselves and their family before taking the roles on full time, whereas H&M wanted to 'hit the ground running' and took no council. While I blame Harry for a lot - the lack of listening to council I think is something they're both guilty of.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 09:31

There is a big difference between printed and online. Were these articles printed in the paper or online

Online - it’s to generate clicks so they’re always ‘changing the articles a little and calling them new articles, so people return more than once a day.

If there were 30+ articles in the newspaper that would be concerning

Samcro · 06/07/2023 09:34

oh please. can you imagine if H&M had done what K&W do whilst being called working royals. they would have been ripped apart just as they are now.

They had an opportunity to do what W&K are doing

Could you link to the 50 derogatory articles in 24 hours written about Kate??

If you need reminding I have a screenshot of all the headlines.

Dismiss it all you like. It happened.

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 09:49

@smilesy , very true , but harry could have explained that she needed to listen to advice from female members of the family, explained that the information was important.

True but , I'm fed up with the woman always getting the blame frankly, Harry let m take the flack and his own book showed most of the things she was blamed for , were in fact due to him!

Quite appropriate when this has been repeated over and over again this year also.
I think it was 34 articles though, not 50.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 09:54

@jeffgoldblum

I’m an equal opportunities lady so they both deserve to take some responsibility

Harry for not telling Meghan, but surely she should have asked some questions too.

I find it hard to believe she didn’t google him and his family and I find it hard that he didn’t help her integrate into the family by taking more time
