Omid Scobie writing tell all book

1000 replies

CosmosQueen · 29/06/2023 07:23

The biographer of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexwarned that his next book will reveal moments that the Royal family should be “ashamed of”.
Omid Scobie claimed he was one of few journalists writing about the Royal family whose work was impartial and “spin-free”

As such, he said his forthcoming book, provocatively titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, would focus on the negative as much as the positive and would shine a light on “unsolved mysteries”
“Endgame not only looks at the successes of our Royal family but also the failures; the things to be proud of and those they should be ashamed of,” he wrote in the I newspaper

Just when will this end? I feel so sorry for their poor children who will have to live with the knowledge that their parents and his obnoxious individual were prepared to do anything to make money.

Quite appropriate when this has been repeated over and over again this year also.
I think it was 34 articles though, not 50.

I'm still confused about what is to be posted and what not, what is deemed too old and what can be repeated? So if the poster deems it to be "appropriate"?

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 09:56

@Wheresthebeach , also yes did he not explain because, it wasn't important or he didn't think it mattered or worse did he deliberately not explain because he was wary after the previous relationships ?
Either way he should of explained fully and clearly stated the difference between what things look like and what they really are.

Roussette · 06/07/2023 09:46

Online. Not print. And most will be the same article changed slightly and reloaded.

Not print.

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 09:58

Is ‘ice’/ ‘ice queen’ not a label to subvert women and hold them back@Roussette

are you saying Kate is the archetypical Ice Queen ?

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 09:54

@jeffgoldblum

I’m an equal opportunities lady so they both deserve to take some responsibility

Harry for not telling Meghan, but surely she should have asked some questions too.

I find it hard to believe she didn’t google him and his family and I find it hard that he didn’t help her integrate into the family by taking more time

True @Howsimplywonderful , but to be fair Google won't really give the inside info that's needed if your going to become a family member. Also as an American m wouldn't be accustomed to the way things are done in the U.K. , culture differences are responsible for many of the issues, really they needed a longer courtship to acclimate to the different worlds they both come from , I imagine Harry is finding it very different in the US .

I also suspect he thought they could 'break the mould' and do it all differently. That they were 'different, modern and special' so the rules wouldn't apply. The support of the Palace PR machine creating an image of him that the public liked went to his head and he believed 'his own PR' as it were.

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 10:04

Yes I think your right @Wheresthebeach , he believed his own pr , thought his popularity would give him leeway!
Sadly that's not the case it seems!

Wheresthebeach · 06/07/2023 10:08

I think the problem was that once he didn't have the back up of the Palace, the mask slipped. He thought he was hard done by, and expected an explosion of sympathy, but got distain instead.

I don't know if MM was blindsided by Royal protocol, or whether it just makes a good story (down to earth American girl can't cope with old fashioned, outdated rules and regulations).

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 10:08

Prince Harry needs to rehire whoever was
doing his PR in 2015 🤣🤣

Iwantcakeeveryday · 06/07/2023 10:08

I am not sure that there is any way to explain to someone that behind closed doors, out of the public eye, your family still behave so formally. As for prepping her for the onslaught by the press, again I don't think you could have prepared someone or known quite the extent of what would happen. Anyone pretending that other women in the public eye have had the same thing are plainly wrong. I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime. Its another level and certainly no other royal has had to deal with the type of social media we have now, or racism.

If there was a way to predict all this, and it had been explained, any woman would have backed away. So I think its weird that people think this was the mistake, that Harry should lead a life alone because of the extreme pressure and scrutiny the public and press would place on his partner. The solution for me is the public taking a good hard look at themselves and wondering if their expectations and attitude is the problem. However, if it didn't;t happen after Diana, it will not happen now. I hope eventually the monarchy ends, so that no-one has to endure this anymore. As Ive said already, I do not think it is a positive or a sign of strength to simply put up with misogyny and intrusion into your private life. I think tis weak. Speaking out and saying this isn't ok, is a sign of strength to me,

DollyTheFluffyOne · 06/07/2023 10:15

Isn't this the reason that is given why Chelsea decided it was not for her?

Howsimplywonderful · 06/07/2023 10:21

Kate phone was hacked 155 times. she was a victim of criminal acts. Why don’t you reflect on that a little, perhaps that makes you a little reserved.

Topless photos of Kate were published.

Kate was chased and cursed at by paparazzi

So I doubt Kate gives a flying fuck whether a bunch of mumsnetters think she behaves too formally with strangers

MrsLeonFarrell · 06/07/2023 10:30

I agree that the advent of social media has made things much more toxic to deal with. The level of vitriol on Twitter is off the charts. Plus the totally mad rumours that are circulated, fake pregnancy, affairs, to name a couple, with no evidence at all by so called fans of each couple are disgusting. I can't think that either couple likes what certain fans say about the other on social media. I don't think that pressure is confined to Meghan though, lots of people in the public eye have to deal with it.

As to the press, I remember clearly as far back as Diana getting married and the press intrusion was dreadful, it still is and not helped by the fact papers are online as well and need the clicks to survive. I'm not sure it is helpful to argue that one individual has it worse than anyone else though. If it is happening to you it is awful and comparisons don't make it less awful. Poor Sarah York was called the Duchess of Pork in the tabloids, I don't think her hurt becomes any less by seeing others also being attacked.

I hope that in time something concrete will be done about the tabloids and social media and real penalties are brought in so that people, any people, can't spread lies. But how you do that without attacking free speech, I have no idea. In the few cases of online trolls being prosecuted I have seen their friends always seem horrified, maybe the gap between what a person says online and what they are like irl needs to be closed?

jeffgoldblum · 06/07/2023 10:37

I don't do sm the only twitter I see is things linked here , so I didn't see or hear any of these rumours, so for me , I find it easy not to be influenced by sm and find it easy to ignore nasty comments.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 06/07/2023 10:39

The rumours mentioned above aren't; just on twitter, we have had them here on more than one occasion and most of the threads on Meghan are full of rumours and things found on twitter and in tabloids. This forum isn't really any better than. any other platform.

DollyTheFluffyOne · 06/07/2023 10:40

People talk about Twitter as if it is real news 🙄

You are nit picking.

I talked about 50 articles in a 24 hour period. A poster said it was old news, so I said there have been 34 articles in a 24 hour period this year, so I wanted to explain it is not old news, because it is still going on.
I hope I have clarified it. No need to be confused 😊

SidekickSylvia · 06/07/2023 10:54

The worst thing about twitter is that your preferences are set to confirm your bias/thoughts. So if you're quite partial to H and M then they will trend for you with flattering articles on them and #Princeofpeg (re: William) etc. If you're partial to TRF you'll have flattering articles on them and trending will be things like #Harklesaregrifters etc. At least on here you'll see a variety of opinions on one thread, and rumours that are a bit too...out there, are normally deleted.

'having a problem with Meghan because she asked to share lipgloss, is what's petty.'

No - Meghan asked to borrow a lip gloss. She was given the lip gloss. She told Harry Kate didn't want to loan the lip gloss. Maybe she didn't - lots of women wouldn't. What's really pathetic is telling the story years later as if it's some kind of defining moment instead of shrugging it off like a normal person would.

As I said, if these are the only instances behind Meghan's obvious jealousy of Kate, it's pathetic.

Agree. I wouldn't be keen to share lipgloss with even my closest friends

I'm not on the Twitters (as Marion Keyes put it), but that's how I thought it worked.
So when someone who, from reading posts here, seems pro K&W or pro M&H, says I've seen things to the detriment of the others on Twitter, I just think "Well, yes - of course you did".

No I don't think I am nitpicking. You were quite agitated the other day about people posting news that was old news. I don't think it is your position to clarify anything. My post was rhetorical.

Agitated? I don't get agitated, what a funny word to use, but it is making me smile! 😊
I expressed an opinion that talking about H&M's wedding over 5 years ago yet again was a bit much.

The endless articles are ongoing. Not 5 years ago.

The vast majority of recent articles/ photos are either PR pieces or staged Backgrid photos eg the “ hike”.

how long ago did meghan use her finger to put on kates precious lip gloss?
it really is old news.
