Harry and Meghan slammed by Spotify executive after podcast deal ends | The Independent

The old thread got closed, just as I was trying to quote tweet someone! So I've started this one, because this shitshow is still rumbling on

From Chris shop of ITV
NEW: Full statement from Prince Harry and Meghan’s office about a car chase in New York involving the paparazzi.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Duchess of Sussex say it could have been a “fatal” crash.

I can't find where he's quoted it from. I think maybe one of the security detail, Chris Sanchez. Maybe they are official spokesmen, too. I dunno anymore.

"It could have been fatal. They were jumping curbs and red lights. At one point they blocked the limousine (carrying the couple) and started taking pictures until we were able to get out."

Is the limousine the taxi cab? Caught behind the garbage truck? 🤔

Milcar · 29/06/2023 22:56

My apologies @Gracewithoutend, I should have checked the sources!

Gracewithoutend · 29/06/2023 23:10

Haha, no, Milcar, my fault. I pasted without putting in a preface. I just saw "fatal" saying it came from a spokesman, in a few articles. So stuck it in my original post without checking.

The nearest to an official spokesman I could find who used the word "fatal" was from Chris Sanchez. I think actually he was trying to fend off criticism of the extreme statement that Harry issued because the agency he was working for started to get comments aimed at it for its ineptitude. Eventually, the owner of the agency had to wade in to make them sound like they never lost control and everything was planned and in hand. Uh-huh. If he says so. 🙄

Morestrangerthings · 29/06/2023 23:11

I am sorry you felt ill. Maybe take a break from it? There is no reason for any of us to enage with MN, after all.

no response from you regarding women indulging in ripping apart the appearance of another woman. Her hair, her skin, her clothing? Her body?

Thanks for your concern about my health though. I’m sure it was legitimate.

Gracewithoutend · 29/06/2023 23:32

I don't know what thread you're referring to, @Morestrangerthings , but it doesn't sound very nice.
You can see this thread is titled "fucking grifters" so there's a fair chance there are going to be less than complimentary things said. (Although I'd hope not anything horrible.) If it upsets you, why keep reading these threads. I doubt very much you'll change anyone's minds. I've discovered that it's very rare to change anyone's mind on any subject on MN. If anything it makes people dig into their belief deeper.
There was a thread the other day on the story of torturing monkeys. That made me ill. No way could I read that regularly. I'll do everything I can to help them and change what's happening, but I can't read about it every day.
If something genuinely makes you ill, and I've read a lot of your posts and you seem genuine to me, try not coming on for a a week or so. MN is like an addiction but maybe if you spent some time away from the RF board, or even MN as a whole, you could become more judicious in your choice of what boards to go on. Speaking for myself, I started to get too involved and took time away. Now I've really cut down on how much I engage on AIBU because it's just too tempting to get involved.
Adtily I want yo add, I'm not in any way saying you shouldn't come on any thread. It's always interesting to read all views and you make good points. I don't want to engage in an echo chamber. But if things do really start to affect you badly, look after yourself.

Of course, if it was just a turn of phrase, we all use those!, then please don't go anywhere and carry on posting. I love having you around.

Milcar · 29/06/2023 23:33

I haven't ripped apart the appearance of any other woman

No-one on MN (or any SM) is posting for any other reason than entertainment. If it is genuinely making you feel ill then take responsibility for your health and your feelings and step away. You don't need to let the random opinions of random people on the internet affect you.

If it was just something you said trying to win an argument, then of course crack on.

If the first, yes, I legitimately feel for you and am trying to give good advice. If you said it made you feel ill just to win an argument, and you didn't feel ill then no, I don't feel for you. You were being manipulative and I called you out.

Only you can say what you intended by saying it made you 'feel ill'. I don't know you, so can't say which is true.

tigger2022 · 29/06/2023 23:42

I haven’t seen any posts like the ones described I must admit. I’ve learned not to say anything if I do though… someone said something massively racist on here the other day and then I got piled on for being upset just because that person happened to be a Meghan fan (even though I am too). There’s no point really, at the end of the day it’s just a RF forum.

skullbabe · 29/06/2023 23:56

Gracewithoutend · 29/06/2023 22:22

Then how would the RF know there had been a chase if the DM had taken the photos down? It's just paps taking photos - which isn't going to surprise the royals. The breaking news that came out later on Wednesday was Harry's statement decribing it as a near fatal catastrophic car chase. No one had said or reported that before his announcement. So how could the RF have known?

I don’t follow you. What do the Royal Family have to do with what happened?

Morestrangerthings · 29/06/2023 23:58

Milcar, i realize I should have written ‘I had a visceral reaction - aka ‘I felt ill.’

I wasn’t ‘trying to win an argument’. It is disturbing to see that women posters would post in that manner about another woman. Although to be fair I like to win the debates - who doesn’t? But not at the expense of going so low as those posters did, when they posted post after critical post about Meghan’s physicality etc. Also I like to read the opinions of others (when they are sound) and think about them.

Glad to hear you haven’t ripped apart the appearance of another woman. If you had read that thread I think you would have been horrified too.

Gracewithoutend · 30/06/2023 00:05

skullbabe · 29/06/2023 23:56

I don’t follow you. What do the Royal Family have to do with what happened?

Exactly. They had nothing to do with it because they were completely unaware of it. How could they enquire about the well-being of someone if they didn't know their well-being had been jeopardy?

skullbabe · 30/06/2023 00:59

Oh I think I understand you now.

I’ve gone back to read his tweets from the date in question. He says

“Spokespersons for both King Charles and Queen Camilla, and Prince William and Princess Kate have declined to comment. I understand that no member of the Royal Family has reached out to the Sussexes since today's news broke four hours ago.”

If I’m understanding you - he does not say that the RF should have issued a statement or comment when it happened. He says they haven’t said anything in the hours since H&M released their statement. I listened to his words in the correspondent reports he gave - he says the same.

But again - so as not to obfuscate - no matter how inconsequential and trivial the events of that night were - to them there significant enough and they were upset enough to release a very strongly worded statement that said anyone publishing pictures taken in such a manner really were in bad form because they were encouraging this behaviour. As much as TMZ is very much a paparazzi organisation they more than often get stories right before many in the mainstream (Michael Jackson’s death for example) and they indeed confirm that people were driving backwards down one way streets, there were fast speeds on the FDR and the paparazzi themselves confirmed that dangerous things happened but blamed H&M’s security for the events (if you’d just have let us follow you to where you were going and none of this funny business of trying to lose us then none of this would have happened).

And you also cannot ignore that shortly after the statement was released the Mail and the Express removed those pictures - the Mail said and I paraphrase “well we didn’t know how the pictures were taken so don’t blame us - but get this, did they say near catastrophic?”. And quietly took them down.

But let not re discuss this - this topic seems to allow people with truly distasteful views to post the basest and cruellest of things about these people.

Back to mocking a journalist for reporting, being active on social media, having a specialist interest, writing a book and his appearance.

Gracewithoutend · 30/06/2023 02:23

@skullbabe
I never mentioned anything about the RF making a public statement. OS said he was shocked that no one from the RF member had contacted them privately to see if they were OK. I said that if Harry was going to issue such a dramatic statement, it's normally the done thing to alert your relatives beforehand to let them know you're OK. If neither were talking to the other, then there's no shock they didn't contact each other.

We don't know the truth of what happened other than what we see. The only video I've seen of a,possible driving offence is of a suv from the security team blocking the road, and causing other vehicles like cabs etc to drive on the pavement to get past so they can carry on working. The police moved the van on.
The security business owner said they never broke the law. But OS who you seem to trust, and who apparently has the inside scoop from those in the know, said that they did because they drove at 80mph. No video, though.

The Mail did remove the photos. They say it's because they had been told that photos they were sold were of them in a taxi leaving the award ceremony actually were taken later. Therefore they removed them.

It seems to me like OSs accusations and implications were cruel. And it was clearly planted with him what to say. And only Harry could have known that info. I only commented on that. You brought up the whole car chase.

I haven't mocked OS at all. I've taken exception to his comment. And I stand by that. He's an experienced, professional journalist and he knows what he's doing. I can say I don't like his comment. I was never personal about him.
I've never commented about him being on SM but if he makes a comment on there that I disagree with, I will respond.
I don't know what his specialist interest is. Is he going on Mastermind or something?
I don't care he's writing a book. He's entitled to. I never buy any of them so it doesn't bother me one jot.
I have commented on his appearance. I've said he doesn't look 40, he looks in his 20. He looks, really good. He's got and always has had great teeth. And if he has a cosmetologist, I'd like their name. Shoot me if any of that is rude or mocking.

skullbabe · 30/06/2023 05:46

I’m really sorry but it’s not off OS that I have based my understanding of what happened that night. I’ve given you non OS sources who would have no interest in supporting H&M but you appear to have skipped past that. Regardless - I did not want to discuss that night further as I said it invites people to say awful things. I know you specifically did not say those things about OS (his specialist subject is the RF) - it was a general statement and I apologise if you thought it was directed at you and I will be clearer in future.

Mmhmm sure. The rule is, if you’re on the right team, anything goes. Well I’m not on anyone’s team, I’m here as a distraction so people can have at it. I’m interested in the RF but I’m not going to compromise my core beliefs over it all.

Nope… I unfollowed the thread because I was so disgusted and dismayed by it all, I have absolutely no idea or desire to know what happened next. I was there long enough to see all the excuses and snitch-tagging and misrepresentations and that was plenty for me. I’ve just had the experience of being a Jewish member of the Labour party throughout the Corbyn years so if you’re going to tell me people calling out racism are treated worse than racists: I promise that won’t shock me. It’s what I expect now.

Ok go for it.

@Iwantcakeeveryday The MN intervention and reference to not discussing deleted posts was prior to the post that was subsequently deleted which @tigger2022 responded to and was upset about in real time. There were then several posts including from you responding to Tigger - although you admitted you hadn't seen the post she was upset about

it was one poster and her posts were deleted before others woke up who were then asked why they hadn't responded to it repeatedly. That is when MNHQ warned the thread..

This is exactly it… also I didn’t know the post had been deleted until someone else said so. I think it doesn’t make sense for MN to delete posts but not hide replies to them, so people can attack you for replying without context and then you can’t even defend yourself. It’s not the nicest place to be sometimes, but I do think it’s right to say when you see something wrong even if you know the door is going to swing around and hit you on the ass.

I've seen a piece that says Harry is going to go to Botswana to create a show for Netflix (on his own).

That sounds like the first good decision in a long time.

That would be incredible, it would be nice to see “old Harry” again
