I wasn't referring to the Sussexes when I shared it, just Meghan. The poem reminds me of many women of colour who have been treated poorly, who have had people salivate at the thought of their failure, their harassment, their destruction. I think of myself, my mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Meghan is just one of the women I think of now when I hear it and on a board that has multiple threads dedicated to discussing her and her downfall, I think its really relevant.
In one morning alone, just a few hours a week or so ago, the following was discussed about her on this board:
she has an odd boxy shape
she has beady eyes, she stares too much
her bad hair extensions
She irons her hair too much
Everything she wears doesn't fit because of her shape
Gurning face with an air of superiority
She needs new underwear
Her clothes don't ever fit
She's had too much work done on her face
She's too short to wear Dior clothes
She's not ageing well, she has mature skin
Her proportions are awkward
her children are not hers
And that was actually not the worst morning on here for nasty criticisms. For a forum full of women and parents, it's rather distasteful to say the least.
