No good directing that at me, I didn't say that

I didn't say you did.

I would've much rather you had agreed that it wasn't a nice thing to say.

Well ok, you can much rather to your heart's content, but I can say what I like - and while I didn't actually disagree, my perspective is that criticising the children is so much worse than criticising the adults that it should be addressed.

Finding it strange that a young boy wears a suit to a football match is criticising the parents surely?
(Not that I care what he wore to it!)

When I think of the absolutely vile criticism levelled at Archie's appearance when he was younger (I won't repeat it, but it was bad) I really can't get worked up about George in a suit.

A quick reminder that Gayle King went to ask Harry about a piece released by Roya Nikkah which he denied. So he is not the leak of that conversation.

After the Oprah interview, Gayle King said she'd spoken to the couple and she reported what they'd told her about the family relations. So they do leak stuff.

Leaking is when you feed information on the sly, not putting a name to the source and hiding behind anonymity. That’s not what happened here.

I can’t believe William has chosen to do the same. Making deals with the very same people who hounded his mother (arguably to her death) and made their lives a misery.

How can he work with the same people who spied on and illegally gathered information on him, his wife, brother and mother?
I believe he has made a terrible mistake affiliating himself with the press; granting them exclusives, feeding information via friends and palace sources and giving them access to his children. He will come to regret this decision if he hasn’t already.
I do have some sympathy for him. The public are fickle and the tabloids have the power to make or break a person (see Meghan & Harry). So I understand his dilemma.

The boys were supposed to be left alone whilst at school but that didn’t stop the papers going after Harry just one year after his mother’s death. I believe it was Piers Morgan who first wrote about Harry in the tabloids. Thirteen year old, grieving Harry tells you in Spare how that made him feel and the effect it had on him. Planned photos with the press didn’t protect either of the boys.
Harry just like his mother, sells tabloids. It’s as simple as that. He’s a valuable commodity. The public soon forgot their anger after Princess Diana’s death and were now more than happy to buy and read stories that were exploiting her young son, for sales.

I say good luck Harry! Use your title and make your millions! People have been grifting off of your name for decades. You don’t owe us anything. We don’t own you.

You can say that again.

To be exact, Gayle said she read the Times article by Royah which implied that Harry and William made up. She asked him to confirm and Harry said no.

Details are important.

Ninaplant · 23/06/2023 16:44

Diana chose to play the game to get the tabloids off her back. Have a look back at the headlines that were written about her back then. I don’t blame her. The exact same playbook is being used today. Nothing changes for this perpetual pantomime. Even the characters remain the same.

Harry refused to play the game.

His family and the press really should have left his wife alone.

She was leaking things for years. She used to ring up and tell journalists to be at a certain place and time for a staged incident or pap shoot. She used to leak positive things about herself to the press.

Who knows what Harry does or doesn't do? He's certainly said a lot of horrible things, and repeated private conversations and situations from his own perspective so unlikely to be accurate. That hardly puts him above the fray!

I don't know what sort of deals William has made with the press, but this is kind of what I thought when Harry signed with Netflix - I didn't believe it at first, that he would do a deal with the people making money out of sensationalising his mother's difficulties for entertainment and 💰💰💰

So Harry does leak information when it suits.

Don't recall Netflix hounding Diana and making her life a misery. But I do remember them airing 'Diana in her own words' - which was Diana talking herself.

Yes, and she explained that she spoke to him due to the article from the Times and asked him about that conversation.

Roussette · 23/06/2023 12:57

Can I answer this?

At the unveiling of the Diana statue it was noticeable he spent a very long time talking to both sisters and Charles Spencer (not evidence I know, but I doubt you'd be in deep conversation with people you don't get on with)

Both the sisters attended Archie's christening and flew over to California to attend Lili's when there was only 20-30 invited.

That would lead me to believe they are close.

It's interesting to see how different people have differing opinions on this meeting - much like the press headlines I suppose. It's only an opinion not evidence.

SaxSick · 23/06/2023 17:26

This is why there is so much of the intrusion of hiring people to try to interpret /lip read what others are saying - all the speculation and desire to know.

Opinion yes. But not wrong they were in conversation for not a short time, no brief hello and walk on!

No, she didn't. She didnt mention the Times. She said she wasnt trying to break any news but she said she called them at the weekend to ask how they were feeling. She the revealed the content of their conversation.

I hate that. They can't have any privacy over even simple comments of speaking to their children. At the same time, though, I do like to hear what they said. 😕 I'm such a hypocrite. 😄

SoTedious · 23/06/2023 17:34

Not sure how either of those is relevant - wasn't the Diana doc made from the Andrew Morton interview tapes? Lovely that you think it's a positive thing that Netflix bought the rights temporarily just as the Crown was getting to the juicy bits.

Anyhow that's what I am talking about - their dramatisation of Diana's mental health struggles and the disintegration of her marriage for entertainment.

Still sadly there is no proof of what was said so it is all still conjecture.

I'm not really for this and think it is very intrusive and have read examples where people come up with very different versions. It's like Chinese Whispers.

The laughter, kisses and animated conversations said it all. You don’t need proof of what was said to know that this was a heart warming moment between loving family members ❤

The video exists; that’s the proof. Whoever sees it can judge for themselves.

That is certainly one interpretation of it but there are masses of videos and photos the world over where people are smiling at others when there is no heart warming moment. I could quote many but one that springs to mind is Hitler and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Were they there to initiate peace? Who knows. I have a book that shows some of the most famous photographs before and after editing and how the content is changed to the viewer. The same goes for all forms of media as we know - the subjects are humans. They are in the public eye. They know this and they react in a unique way as do we the viewers. People see what they want to see.Only they know how and why they reacted in such a manner.

Agree on a photograph. This wasn't. It was footage that lasted quite a while and obvious the warmth there. Unless of course you're looking for something different.

Milcar · 23/06/2023 18:11

When I think of the absolutely vile criticism levelled at Archie's appearance when he was younger (I won't repeat it, but it was bad)

There was the appalling, racist connection with a monkey, and the person doing that was rightly sacked.

I am not aware of any other criticism of his appearance? But I don't follow in detail so please let me know of other criticism - you can link or just give Google-able details if you don't want to post here to things that are offensive, let's face it, we don't want to perpetuate the comments, but I would like to know where they came from, and whether it was a supposedly 'reputable' source

Netflix brought it out when the British media lied about what took place and what Diana said.

And that person was hired back a few months later.

Agreed. There are home videos of QE2 and her parents and sister doing a Nazi salute. This was in the early thirties, and seems to be making fun of a (reputable) foreign leader. But then gets brought up out of context as having Nazi sympathies, along with 'Prince Philip's sisters married Nazis' - ignoring his service in the RN

If so that is appalling and should not have happened.

Are there any other examples?
