Seemed pretty well written to me. Mick Hume doesn't appear to be a fan of PH or Hacked Off, so I can see why some people might dismiss it as having an extreme right wing bias - whatever that is.

Roussette

oh glad that you knew what I meant, read it back and realised I’d garbled a bit 😬😭😂

Roussette · 12/06/2023 21:33

No worries

Just heard on the news Silvio Berlusconi has died....now that was a news story back in the day 😳😮

polkadotdalmation · 12/06/2023 21:47

I really don't think a PI, unless called to testify, is going to say he used phone hacking. They just sink back in to the swamp.

Well Gavin Burrows was going to testify then withdrew then said it wasn't his statement (so no clue what it was all about) but he was a PI

This is the line repeatedly trotted out by the tabloid-hating elites. They insist that they believe in ‘public-interest journalism’ – just so long as the public interest is not decided by the common public. Instead, what is in the public interest should be defined by the likes of High Court judges and high-minded middle-class media types – such as the Guardian and BBC journalists, who admitted during the 2012 Leveson Inquiry that they had also hacked phones and used private detectives to target people, but only ‘in the public interest’, m’lud.

Interesting passage from the Spiked article. Those posters who had said they were only reading the Guardian’s coverage of Harry’s trial because that paper had no conflict of interest may have to reconsider…

‘Tabloid hating elites’

Lol.

There’s nothing ‘elite’ about me. But yep, I hate tabloids and do worry that they influence public opinion.

I don’t remember anyone saying they were only reading the Guardian’s coverage?

The wretched BBC comes as no surprise at all, but I hadn't realised the Guardian had been at it too ... isn't it often regarded on here as a moral crusader almost beyond reproach?

recsw · 13/06/2023 09:02

I don't think anyone or anything is beyond reproach!

yeah, apparently hating tabloids and their disgusting tactics is elitist now. Tell that to the folks in Liverpool! I understood the term elites to mean a small group of powerful, influential and wealthy people. I do not think people who hate tabloids necessarily fit that description. certainly not me! Tabloid owners are some of the richest people around, especially Murdoch of course. Powerful, extremely influential and wealthy.

polkadotdalmation · 13/06/2023 10:11

Haha. I don't read the tabloids or the broadsheets. Attention span of a gnat!

Also no time left in the day if I wade through a newspaper.

cobicat · 13/06/2023 10:22

I think the Spiked article summed things up pretty accurately!

Must depend on which bit of MN you frequent as Guardian hasn't been well regarded on the FWR boards for a few years I think - but then nether has the BBC.

I have to say I've found it hard to wade though the media coverage and try and work out what is straight up reported and what's seen though a lens - always hard but seems harder with anything to do with Harry.

I have gathered Nikki Sanderson has come across much better.

recsw · 13/06/2023 10:35

I've read listened to various sources, most seem to think Nikki Sanderson has more evidence. But it is about the balance of probabilities so doesn't need the same clear chain of evidence.

Has it gone from there being too many threads to there being too few? Threads need to be allowed to flow. Right now, it feels like secondary school PE where there are a enthusiastic 'defenders' jumping up and down all day in front of their chosen player to stop any discussion they do not like even when they don't understand the discussion. It feels a bit silly.

jeffgoldblum · 13/06/2023 11:43

That's not what I saw on the thread before it was deleted, and it was a follow on from thread 2 .
