I've probably garbled that, but that's the gist of it.

He is wasting everyone’s time.
people will have been working all weekend to get ready for today and he can’t even be bothered to turn up on the right day.
what an arse.

There's no guarantee he'd be giving evidence today anyway. The defence have to give their opening first and it sound as if Harry's side are still giving theirs. Court will stop at 4/4:30pm anyway.

Doesn't make it any less rude but he was only meant to be there just in case there was enough time.

kirinm · 05/06/2023 14:01

There is also absolutely no chance they'd get to cross examination today.

8roses · 05/06/2023 14:07

The judge was clear he was to be there today - that’s a court direction, not an invitation. Arrogant
as ever.

No, but they might have got him sworn in and gone through presenting his evidence in chief today, to give the defence a clear run from tomorrow morning. I’m sure Harry’s counsel is making sure to speak veeery slooowly. 😀

8roses · 05/06/2023 14:12

Doh, sorry your lordship - I was in charge of the jelly and ice cream and then we had to play pass the parcel- I won as well! A brand new colouring book for little old me 🍦

kirinm · 05/06/2023 14:14

@Serenster yep definitely. They'll be dragging this out for as long as possible. I wonder if the judge will make a point of mentioning this tomorrow.

kirinm · 05/06/2023 14:15

I'm not defending Harry btw. If the court tells you to be there, you're there unless there's a very good reason not to be.

It's not a great start.

Mumsnut · 05/06/2023 14:21

I am imagining the paper's KC whipping through his opening arguments like a tornado, knowing that Harry wouldn't be there to take the stand even if there was time left over today, and Harry's KC speaking v e r y s l o w l y to keep him off it

Yep! I reckon that would happen too. Will the claimants opening finish at 3:50pm?!

Boulshired · 05/06/2023 14:50

I’m surprised they are allowed to use Princess Diana as evidence, letters are not always truth.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/06/2023 15:04

He is wasting everyone’s time

But it's the time of the "little people", which to a member of the RF may well include the judge

Of course it's not wise to irritate the person judging the case, but I'd have thought it was clear by now that Harry doesn't appreciate being told what to do - and in this goes against him the judge will doubtless join the ranks of those deemed to be influenced by the tabloids

tigger2022 · 05/06/2023 15:24

He’ll probably request a judicial review into who scheduled the hearing too close to a 2 year old’s birthday party

He was told to be there.

it wasn’t optional - it was an instruction from court.

everyone else managed to turn up.

it’s not like he was busy working, was it?

Be fair.

he was the party entertainer - doing his juggling act.

Grin Grin

I'm not sure what he was doing flying the night before anyway; if I was facing cross examination by a high status barrister, I really wouldn't want to do it when gaga with jetlag ...

kirinm · 05/06/2023 15:33

@TrashyPanda yes and I acknowledged that in my other post. Perhaps read that before being aggressive back.

My point was that realistically no time has been wasted as claimed.

Boulshired · 05/06/2023 15:36

The judge not happy again, Prince Harry council saying they needed the whole day and judge reminding them they agreed three hours

viques · 05/06/2023 15:37

As though no one in the entire history of the Universe has ever re scheduled a two year olds birthday celebration by a couple of days because real life got in the way.

Hope none of the chickens are egg bound and needing his undivided attention.

Lost count of all the posts on here saying 'baby's only one/two! s/he won't know if you don't have the party on the actual day!'

Arrogant knob.

Rinoachicken · 05/06/2023 15:52

I’m feel like I’m missing something obvious here - many of the stories his lawyer has so far referenced - he is suggesting they have been obtained by ‘unlawful means’ but then also ‘Sherborne suggested Prince Harry and Davy began to suspect friends of leaking to the newspapers’ and also that there was proof of payments to individuals.

Take the school polo injury story - any number of classmates could have sold that information for a quick buck - it would have been gossip all around the school and not everyone was his friend!

If the newspaper are saying it was a ‘source’, and even Harry’s legal team are acknowledging payments to people around him at the time. Is it immoral to sell and accept gossip for cash - yep. But I’m not sure it’s against the law?

I get he’s upset about all the gossip that’s been printed over the years, it has been excessive and intrusive for sure, but it doesn’t necessarily follow that it was unlawfully obtained if there were plenty of people around him (‘friends’, acquaintances, cleaners, people he’s pissed off etc) happy to spill the beans for ££££

What am I missing? How does he have a case?

HeddaGarbled · 05/06/2023 15:53

To be fair, though, he was scheduled for Tuesday and presumably plans for his daughter’s birthday had been made around that. Judge suddenly decides he needs to be there on Monday, he’s half the world away, not just up the road. Bit high-handed of the judge, no?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/06/2023 15:54

Comments from David Sherborne, reported by Sky:

"It's the alleged use of those (unlawful) methods that have led him to bring this case to court, he says, and not some vendetta against the press generally ... Prince Harry is here because he regards himself like any other victim"

Oh dear, oh dear ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/06/2023 16:01

Was that decided "suddenly" though?
I've no idea how much notice is usual in these cases, but wouldn't want to assume ...

Exactly. PW when he was at university used to plant stories with 'friends' to see whether or not they appeared in the papers. If they did he knew who was leaking stories to the press.
