The Daily Mail is touting William, Kate, Sophie, and Edward as the new Fab Four. Do you agree with the Daily Mail that they are an influential foursome?

I’m surprised anyone thought that this image was the photo to publish. They all look so alienated and isolated from each other.

The image reminds me of the last four remaining pins at the end of a lane at a bowling alley

Very strange pic. There is always some meaning behind a posed image but damned if I can see any meaning here - or at least, no meaning with warmth.

The meaning is simply that they are standing still and looking solemn as the national anthem is being played. If you saw the reverse angle (I.e the crowd at the garden party, with whom they will walk down the stairs and mingle with once the anthem concludes) you would be able to see they too are behaving in exactly the same way.

'vile outburst' ???

You mean he stood up to a weirdo who stalked and photographed him and his children during lockdown when they went for a bike ride in an isolated area near their home?

Erm, ok

So no issue if Harry does the same right. You would say the same thing..

No.

It's the bizarre outfits that people are noting

What on earth where they going for ?
The two women had to be in Edwardian Empire era cosplay ?

Anyway , the four of them can't muster an iota of personality between them and the solemn expressions capture that fact, regardless of it being unintentional

Good meme fodder though

Serenster · 22/05/2023 10:44

I see you are just focussed on what the women are wearing, but they are wearing midi dresses, with hats. The former are extremely common as midi dresses have been very much in fashion for a while now. Particularly the version worn by Sophie, with added frills. Kate’s one is lace, which is less common if you’re looking in M&S but then she’s also worn it to Ascot, which is dressier. Hats are part of the dress code - almost all women attending the garden party will be wearing one.

I guess if you’ve not attended a formal day event it might look out of the ordinary? If you have (and I often have) it’s quite usual attire.

Novella4 · 22/05/2023 10:48

@Serenster

Have you read the whole thread ? ( I am often guilty of not having time to read the whole thread - I'm asking not accusing )

The outfits are ridiculous, more ridiculous because both women wearing similar weird get ups . One would have been unfortunate, two looks like a plan .

What the hell were they going for is the question!
Sister wife vibes too

So weird .
But Fab Four ??! Lol someone is mocking them with that label

KirstenBlest · 22/05/2023 11:00

Prince Edward and Princess Kate are both 5'9"

Serenster · 22/05/2023 11:21

Right, so the whole issue is that they are both wearing blue dresses? And that this is somehow inherently ridiculous? That’s honestly ludicrous. The men are identically dresses in morning suits but it’s the women who are ridiculous, for picking formal day dresses in similar shades?

SunnyEgg · 22/05/2023 11:26

It’s just a pic of them wearing dresses that are in fashion, despite this thread. Standing still for an anthem

The Fab Four line is to stir up reaction, pic against headline. Works a treat

Cowparslee · 22/05/2023 11:28

@SunnyEgg yes I suspect some of those commenting on the dresses don't get out much

RitaCrudgington · 22/05/2023 11:33

I can't see Edward the same way after watching The Windsors Coronation Special

Whenharrymetsmelly · 22/05/2023 11:52

VivienneDelacroix · 19/05/2023 21:19

I was going to say exactly this! A depressingly stifling cult.
Those hats at identical angles - very very odd.

Agree. There's something weird about that photo

Morestrangerthings · 22/05/2023 11:57

okay, so they’re standing at attention for the anthem.

But most people wouldn’t know that without a caption.

it still doesn’t change the impression that they all look alienated and isolated from each other.

Please note: I don’t think they are isolated and alienated from each other in reality.

I have to wonder who chose this image to publish, and why?

Hbh17 · 22/05/2023 11:57

Friends of mine met Edward at an event recently and said that he was charming, very interested in the organisation and gave an excellent speech without notes. So let's give the man some credit for what he does.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 22/05/2023 12:16

Seems cruel to big them up as "fab" when all of them are by the nature of the job they do, rigid and rule-abiding. You are not allowed to shine or excel in that business. Anything out of the ordinary and they will be ripped apart by the press. This is a family business where "not putting a foot wrong" is the best thing they can say about their family members. If they really want "fab" they need younger, energetic people to break the mold but that is the antithesis to tradition.

Quite. They weren't there in the capacity of superstars but to make the people who attended the garden party feel special and listened to. This is what the 'anti' crowd don't understand. I'm just listening to Kelly Holmes describing the POW's visit to a sports charity KH started. KH thought she was fab.

Novella4 · 22/05/2023 12:41

@serenster

Funny how you always pick an aspect of the issue that is slightly irrelevant ...
No not the fact that they are both in BLUE dresses .
They are in the same sister wife style ,( silent women who know their place anyone ?), v similar hats at the same angle - they have obviously gone for a 'look' - we are the new 'team' is the message

And yes I agree that with all the problematic issues and scandals lurking just under the surface re the 'royals' dresses are the least of it

But as ALL they present is surface, we are entitled to comment on that surface

Something about that weird photo is resonating with people and not in a good way .
It's a visual representation of how out of place the whole malarkey is in 2023
It's a bit like the coronation. The so called 'pomp' fell flat. It all looked like it was costume hire . Cheap .
Except it wasn't cheap was it ?

Serenster · 22/05/2023 12:45

I also don’t have a problem with seeing them first and foremost as human beings performing a role, even if at times they need to behave seriously and soberly (as most of us need to do, from time to time surely?).

Anyway, for those who can only see them as automatons and are concerned they can’t put a foot wrong, here’s the same two couples captured when Sophie tripped up as she got into their carriage for the opening parade at Ascot. She nearly fell flat onto Kate, who put her hands up to catch her, and then they laughed about it for the rest of the trip. Most people found this relatable, even though they were once again wearing formal day wear.

Novella4 · 22/05/2023 12:48

Yes so relatable ...

LaMarschallin · 22/05/2023 12:48

I thought it was obvious, from the way they were standing to attention and looking serious in the photo, that they were standing for the national anthem.

Dora26 · 22/05/2023 12:54

Saw a video of Kate recently in skinny jeans and she didn’t even look attractive she was sooo thin - not a good role model even for Charlotte

But.. they are hideous. There is no style to them, fashionable midi or not.

Looks like a scene from the Handmaid’s Tale to me, doesn’t look fab anything.

Handmaid's Tale was my first thought

The funny clothes are necessary to differentiate them as not being ordinary people.
They can't wear everyday clothes as they would not look special. And if they went too much for the glitzy celebrity approach then they start to look like just another celebrity.
So although I do not like the way the Senior Royal women dress, I think it does make sense for them as an institution.

Actually I think Kate dresses very well normally. That dress is just unusually bad.
