Security for Harry and Meghan not a priority

Article in the DM reporting that Rishi Sunak has apparently said Harry and Meghan's security issues in New York are not a priority for him when he was asked about the car chase. He is concentrating on policing and safety of people in this country.

Seems fair.

lunar1 · 19/05/2023 10:13

Why on earth would it be a priority for our PM!

Maddy70 · 19/05/2023 10:14

Fair enough

IamThegreaterMole · 19/05/2023 10:14

Sensible

Bluebells1970 · 19/05/2023 10:16

FFS these two are turning into a liability. All they want is international VIP status.
They CHOSE to leave the royal family and all the security/protection that that afforded them. They were offered an estate in the UK and turned it down.

This car chase was nothing more than a stunt to pull at Daddy's heart strings and I hope it prompts Charles into action, only not the sort that Harry intended. Removal of titles and any connection with the BRF would be a great start.

WimpoleHat · 19/05/2023 10:16

Quite right too - not his job to protect private citizens in the US. That’s a matter for them and the NYPD.

Rubychews · 19/05/2023 10:18

If the NYPD isn’t concerned why would anyone else be. By all accounts by everyone but MM and H it seems to be yet another Netflix media stunt.

queenofarles · 19/05/2023 10:39

Dumb question, why should it be? They live in the US not UK ,

maranella · 19/05/2023 10:42

Seems like a fair comment to me. They choose to live in the US. The incident (if indeed there was an incident - recollections seem to vary), occurred in New York, which last time I checked is in the US, so it's nothing to do with the British PM and I'm sure he's got many more pressing issues to worry about.

Floralnomad · 19/05/2023 10:43

Quite rightly .

BMW6 · 19/05/2023 10:43

Well they're not working Royals so their security is nothing to do with UK Government.

They are private citizens as they chose to be, so their security is up to them to fund

MadeInChorley · 19/05/2023 10:47

It’s not a priority for me either. H&M chose to become private citizens and to live in the US. Accordingly, their need for security and its provision is a private matter for H&M and their ample pockets. The UK police have no jurisdiction in NYC and the British Govt and taxpayer has no obligation to pay for H&M’s private security as private citizens in another jurisdiction.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/05/2023 10:48

Good answer. What are your thoughts OP?

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 19/05/2023 10:49

Of course he's not going to comment on how NYPD, and private security, handled something. Why would this be his priority?

notanotheroneagain · 19/05/2023 10:50

Let me guess, that question was from the DM?

When met with a head of state you seriously ask about H&M details? idk, why not ask about the starving school children and energy bills?
Wtaf?

Theunamedcat · 19/05/2023 10:50

Not quite what he said

He said "cars in new York are not really my priority or responsibility"

Also he is absolutely right

The BBC asked him at the G7 of all places

I wish politicians would answer this way more if it's a question of celebrity or entertainment matters.

But Sunak didn't hold back from saying that Zelensky should be able to speak at Eurovision, so he picks and chooses what to comment on when it comes to entertainment and celebrity stories.

StrawberryWasp · 19/05/2023 10:54

It should be less than a priority, US based celebrities getting followed by the paparazzi in the UD is literally nothing to do with him.

This.

tigger2022 · 19/05/2023 11:04

I do feel a bit sorry for Harry because he said he’s been protected by armed guards his whole life. The idea of suddenly not being must be worrying even if the threat level isn’t the same. But expecting that the government was seriously going to send royal protection officers to be permanently stationed in Canada was unbelievably naive. And the idea this incident in NY proves his case… well nothing actually happened (he tried to make a similar drama our of a single paparazzi on a scooter the last time he was in the UK) and royal protection officers are there to protect him from physical harm, not from having his photo taken.

OldTinHat · 19/05/2023 11:27

First sensible words to leave his mouth imo.

sillyonehetpes · 19/05/2023 11:27

Good.

Neither does the American taxpayers which is what would happen if Harry's security status was reinstated which is what he's fighting for in the courts. Funny coincidence this???

Zelenskyy is a head of state, not a 'celebrity'.
