Security for Harry and Meghan not a priority

Article in the DM reporting that Rishi Sunak has apparently said Harry and Meghan's security issues in New York are not a priority for him when he was asked about the car chase. He is concentrating on policing and safety of people in this country.

@TeaIsRisen seems to have an inside track on Harry and Meghan's version of events

shockthemonkey · 19/05/2023 16:34

To be clear, he should have gone much further and said that H&M's security issues were of ZERO concern to him.

I mean, absolutely nothing to do with Rishi or the UK govt.

sheworemellowyellow · 19/05/2023 16:39

Their NYPD escort felt the situation was so serious they removed Harry and Meghan to a police station and sheltered them in a police station, then orchestrated a manoeuvre where police moved Harry and Meghan to a second car (a yellow taxi) while the NYPD escort continued to escort the now-empty SUV that was the car being chased, to lure the pursuers into chasing the SUV in order to let the taxi slip away.

Are you a PR pro? Maybe write for a tabloid? This is hilarious 😂 If - big if - you're right in what you say:

"removed Harry and Meghan" = Harry and Meghan got out of a car
"sheltered them in a police station" = shelter implies protection from assault, the such as being pelted with rain or hail or whatever, not just standing indoors
"orchestrated" = suggests a coordinated and rehearsed effort between many players
"a manoeuvre" = suggests a predetermined, considered chain of actions

and on and on. What a brilliant exercise in hyperbole and exaggeration! Very amusing.

Yes, there are a couple of very 'on-message' posters here today

mixedrecycling · 19/05/2023 18:14

I had to remove myself from my workplace earlier today, and take shelter at the train station until the train came. The train driver orchestrated a stop at the platform to enable me to manoeuvre myself into the carriage.

I am now exhausted after such a traumatic experience...

jeffgoldblum · 19/05/2023 18:16

Sounds awful @mixedrecycling , are you ok now? 💐

Do you think you'll be okay by tomorrow? It must have been awful

Lunde · 19/05/2023 18:28

I don't know why a security incident in the US - where H&M were protected by armed bodyguards some of which were former Presidential Secret Service bodyguards - would be an issue for the UK government!

Even Princess Anne doesn't get full time security in the UK and she was actually subjected to a kidnap attempt where her Royal Protection Officer was shot.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 19/05/2023 18:32

So H&M were so scared about their welfare, that they dragged an innocent taxi driver into the situation, who might have been blinded by flashbulbs, frightened himself by the situation and/or physically hurt in a collision. How very humanitarian of them.

Of course, none of it happened in any way that H&M's mouthpieces describe.

And yes, Sunak is right to say this is none of his beeswax.

That was very nearly catastrophic

TrashyPanda · 19/05/2023 18:42

What security officer worth their salt puts their clients into a taxi with an unknown driver????

daft

if they had just gone straight home instead of driving around in circles for 2 hours, none of this would have happened.

glad Rishi was firm and to the point.

PinkTonic · 19/05/2023 18:42

No one is denying that 12 unmarked cars with covered up licence plates trying to follow them (going down to 4 unmarked cars), and that those cars were driving over sidewalks and the wrong way down one-way streets

Literally everyone is denying that happened. The alternative report is that the only car driving erratically was theirs!

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/05/2023 18:43

Why would it have anything to do with him?

I nominate you for a Woman of Exceptional Courage Award. Held at Allied Carpets Arena.

Meghan is American, her children are half American. Has anyone asked Biden his thoughts on this non incident?

adriftabroad · 19/05/2023 19:00

@mixedrecycling thoughts and prayers with you.

You may have PTSD, do keep an eye on yourself.

It obviously wasn't a stunt.

There are videos from eye witnesses saying how upsetting it was to watch the chase. No one is denying that 12 unmarked cars with covered up licence plates trying to follow them (going down to 4 unmarked cars), and that those cars were driving over sidewalks and the wrong way down one-way streets.

The idea that Harry hired a dozen drivers and a dozen cars with covered up licence plates and ordered them to pursue him just as a stunt is pretty extreme conspiracy theory.

However, why is Rishi making comments about random American celebrities? He should just say no comment. It's asinine for the BBC to ask, but it feels like both the BBC and Rishi are exploiting Harry and Meghan to get headlines.

I'm afraid none of your work of fiction tallies with either the police or the media reports. Nice bit of hyperbole though.

Will you be needing some tapping therapy for your PTSD?

Well, yes, they are. Chris Sanchez, a member of Harry's security detail definitely is. He said there were 12 vehicles not cars. And some of the vehicles were scooters and bicycles.

He told CNN: “What we were dealing with was very chaotic. There were about a dozen vehicles: cars, scooters and bicycles.

I haven't seen any mention anywhere that there were 12 cars. That would be a massive convoy.

Thanks for the laughs, guys. It beats me when some posters drone on about how others hate H&M. No we don’t - they’re comedy gold! One of the usual suspects accused me of being jealous of Meghan yesterday - (when running out of arguments strike low) I don’t think so!!!

Haywirecity · 19/05/2023 19:09

There are videos from eye witnesses saying how upsetting it was to watch the chase.

There was just one video of a young lady who never actually saw the chase. She saw Harry and family leaving the ballroom and paps followed them as they left. She didn't see the chase as such.

mixedrecycling · 19/05/2023 19:15

I've tapped open a bottle of wine 😁

Later, of course, I will use some hallucinogenic drugs in a therapeutic way...
