Cost of King Charles Coronation

"Ar least £100m."

Well I for one would have liked a much lower party cost (do we need a grandiose new robe to go with it for instance?) and some of the money going to some of the teachers and nurses in the UK.

£100 million is nothing and its bringing a lot of revenue a long with lots of happiness. We are having a big lunch with lots of friends and really looking forward to it.

Cheguevarahamster · 30/04/2023 22:33

It's going to cost around £275 million. It certainly doesnt bring me happiness and I would rather the money was spent on something more worthwhile.

SugarRaye · 30/04/2023 22:50

It's going to cost £100m.

No, its going to cost £275m

You wrong, it's going to cost £1.3t.

Dont be daft, it's going to cost £4.22.

Nah, I hear it's going to £523, 266,711.01.

No, stop messing. It's thupence ha'penny.

I swear to god, I got it from the late queen's mouth, the year before Charles was born, it was going to cost 2 donkeys, a packet of sausages and a book of green shield stamps.

🙄 No one on here has any idea of the cost. Nor of the revenue it will bring in.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 30/04/2023 22:54

It's not bringing me any happiness. Nobody in my family or circle of friends is interested.

Can somebody who says it will bring in more money than it costs give a breakdown of the figures please?

I've spent £14.99 on an Abolish the Monarchy t-shirt so that's my contribution to the cause.

Actual confirmation of the final amount from an unimpeachable source

pilates · 01/05/2023 19:09

Yes it will apparently generate a billion so pretty good for the economy. Looking forward to it. We are celebrating with family and the flags are going up tonight 🇬🇧

Tratjymp · 01/05/2023 19:40

I bought my son a commemorative tin tray.

So it's cost that much.

This.

personally I am looking forward to it and know some people who own hospitality businesses who hope it gives them a boost but they won’t know until after. (I plan in helping them!)

That's 😁 funny!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/05/2023 19:52

How much of the ‘billion‘ generated will make its way into the mouths of those who can’t affords to feed their kids? I’m sure they’d rather see the real return of the £250 million spent.

It’s a horrific, tone deaf, classist, ego driven pile of shite.

This.

I don't know anyone with any plans for it, other than avoidance. It's horrendous when people are struggling to put food on the table. So much for modernising the monarchy.

Vitriolinsanity · 01/05/2023 20:27

Literally none of what the alleged costs are will trickle down to your pockets if the coronation wasn't happening.

grayhairdontcare · 01/05/2023 20:30

Rich people spending money on bullshit ceremony.
At least we get Monday off if we are lucky

Yeah kind of the point. They will need to go at some point, but this is only my historical projection.

Just to be born king does not make any sense at all in this country, day and age. We are smarter than that. And to see how it can all go wrong, just look at Harry! We narrowly missed him but it is ust a lottery which nobody should pay for.

How do you know that £250m will be spent? You have absolutely no idea. Nor do you have any idea of how much revenue will be made from it from selling the viewing rights, increased spending, etc. None of us have any idea. But if you think you do, please do give us the names and sources of your information.

YoungandHopeful · 02/05/2023 00:15

Well I don’t think it’s worth 10 pence myself. Ridiculous circus.

AtChoService · 02/05/2023 00:19

What exactly is costing so much? Security?

HeddaGarbled · 02/05/2023 00:22

the money going to some of the teachers and nurses in the UK

It wouldn’t. Those are government decisions and apparently it’s inflationary to give public sector staff a decent pay rise. If there’s any spare cash in the budget it’ll be going on tax cuts for businesses or the middle classes or some other thing that they hope will get them elected next time.

AskMeMore · 02/05/2023 00:47

OP I am sorry some people are sim-ply taking the piss. They are doing that because they know there is no way to defend the enormous cost of a ceremony to crown a King.
And they have the cheek to ask the public to volunteer.

Stripycatz · 02/05/2023 00:58

Meh. There are things I'm more angry about tbh.
We're having a half hearted street party. It's an excuse to get together with the neighbours who we quite like but don't really socialise with.
Can't really get excited either way.

This ☝️ As for those who will be pledging allegiance out loud to the (TV) King, well I just f**king despair at the stupidity 🙄
