According to Twitter this is a real step up

Michelle Obama managed to rise above the horrible insults directed at her, and came out looking far better than descending into the gutter

Precisely - and it's just another of the reasons she's so hugely admired and respected

It's true that she was a high achiever in her own right before Barack/the White House, but doesn't change the fact her behaviour's innate and an example of real class

The comparing of two African American women and the ways they dealt with racism is gross. Once again trying to create a perfect victim narrative.

The King is adulterer. Yes I know Diana was as well but she was very young when she married and not from the most stable of background. He was too weak and self absorbed to refuse to marry a woman he didn't love. He is a liar. He hung around with prolific paedophiles and defended one of them.

Yet the public is supposed to forget all that and pledge our allegiance.

I've watched it. Its got subtitles, but the reviewer explains it really well. Basically it investigates Archwell and it is dodgy but legal. Uses every available loophole, has accounts that show the two single donators. No new york office, just a postal address.

We’ve had two threads where plenty of posters have added links from the US about private foundations being different to public charities. You were there. Private foundations are actually defined partly by how few donors they have as it is typically money from a single family or couple, as you’ll find with other major American private foundations. It’s not a legal loophole, it’s in the actual definitions of private foundations. They don’t ask for public money, like charities.

I think a certain person is going to ignore facts as it's more fun slagging off Meghan.

It seems there are two ways for victims to deal with racism, the right way is to be quiet about it and "rise above it" and the wrong way is to call it out. Seems Michelle is popular here because she stays quiet.

Gilmorehill · 01/05/2023 15:30

Why are you assuming I admire her because of how she handled the racism when in the White House? There’s so much more to her than that. I think when I really connected with her is when she talked about how difficult she found marriage when the dcs were little. I think it’s important as mums to be open about these things as sometimes we feel we are the only ones struggling.
I also loved the way she spoke to all the people who came to see her when on her speaking tour. She’s so warm and down to earth. She also seems like a very content person.

Erm how has Michelle 'stayed quiet'? She's made plenty of statements, speeches etc. What else do you want her to do? Perhaps things she's said like 'when they go low, we go high' make you think of her as a pushover?

At first glance I thought the comparison was because of their husbands. Both Meghan and Michelle are famous for whom they married.

Meghan has faced racism, true. She wanted to trade off the RF brand. Also true. If the institution was that bad rejecting titles etc would have been a strong statement, but she continues to happily use hers. And wants them for her children,

I was writing in response to how she is being compared directly against Meghan by pps on here in terms of racism. I love her, I don't think she's a pushover at all. But she's being used to put down another black woman - "good one vs bad one" narrative.

What does one have to do with the other?

And why should Meghan and Harry (and kids) have to give up their titles anyway, when there are many other, non-working royals who earn their own money, behave badly, cash in, and speak out, who still keep theirs? I've asked this so many times on these boards, never had an answer!

Gilmorehill · 01/05/2023 15:48

I’m certainly not using her to put anyone down. I previously said H and M should have worked on cultivating a more positive brand. I had Gwyneth Paltrow in my head but a pp suggested Michelle Obama, which is a great example. GP is slightly annoyingly perfect. MO seems like good fun.

So who else has 'spoken out' against the RF as an institution, slamming it and said that they don't want to be a part of it? And also has a title?

Rejecting titles is well known form of protest. Search 'list of British people who have rejected honours'.

That is not the point at all, but I see you try to drag racism into it, 🙄

Meghan is like trump lashing out at slights (real and perceived). She’s also been caught doing it and lying to avoid being caught

Thats why Meghan is a poor role model. I want someone to inspire my kids to be better people , not to get into public slagging matches with family, lying repeatedly ,and blaming everyone else for anything going wrong

Her children are the kings grandchildren, they're entitled to titles. The whole point of the titles are they are unearned so anyone born into the family gets a title. You may despise their mother but that's the reality of a Royal family.

Why do you need Meghan to be a role model? Are any of the other Royal women role models?

That's not quite true. They can forgo them if they want to. Like the Wessexes.
Tradition dictates titles pass down the male line. Even so Princess Anne's children were offered titles by the Queen, which she refused.

Plenty of precedent and doesn't make them any less royal. So someone who actively wants the title is sending a message.

But she was given that title because she married a prince! I think it highlights what a joke hereditary titles are.

Camablanca · 01/05/2023 16:15

Also @Rockybooboo Zara Tindall, the queen's oldest grandchild doesn't have a title. Just saying.

Yeah what a load of old cobblers titles are! Maybe they're keeping them because it's winds the British press Royalists up.

Well, at least your question which you said nobody has answered... has been now? So you can be happy :)
Maybe they want to wind people up, maybe they're hypocrites, who knows? Certainly not us.

It gives me the latter impression. It gives you the former. What anybody thinks of Meghan depends on their own biases etc. As a mixed-race woman myself (Black, South Asian, SouthEast Asian) I don't find her an icon against racism, which seems to be the main point of her defenders. But why would she care what I think anyway?

That's a question for her, not this forum. She's the one who's done lots of media appearances talking about it. We didn't ask her to.

Harry will be out on his ear in two years and she will use all of the secrets he's spilled re drug use and mental instability to make sure the children stay in California. He will end up lonely and bitter, begging his brother to take him back into the fold.
