The royal family

Why is Harry coming to the coronation at all?

He's apparently not going to see his father and he's just flying in an out, leaving immediately after the ceremony to rush back to California. I know it's nice to be at your kid's birthday party, but FFS this is his father's coronation, a day he's been waiting for his whole life. So Harry is flying all the way over here, no doubt burning up the planet on a fucking private jet, and all for what? To be seen to be there? What for? What a waste of time. If he's not even going to celebrate with his family I don't know why he doesn't just stay in California, since that's clearly where he'd rather be. I don't understand why he's coming at all.

To reaffirm his allegiance to the crown?

Sudeko · 24/04/2023 16:52

The brand is fueled by Harry keeping up a current and ongoing relationship with the royal family. They don't want him there, he doesn't want to be there but he must keep it up to maintain interest in his brand and generate the money for his expensive lifestyle. It also generates headlines for the royal family so it is a win-win.

Presumably because it's important to him and/or his father that he attends.

michaelmacrae · 24/04/2023 16:58

Perhaps his father has asked for him to come? I think that would be most likely. Charles isn't going to be around forever and despite all the arguments they are still father & son and I'm sure they love each other.

iliketobooogie · 24/04/2023 16:59

He's doing it because it would look awful if he didn't go.
It looks awful that Meghan and the kids aren't going, but worse if Harry didn't go.
So he's going and avoiding everyone and then rushing off, how depressing... he must regret his multiple interviews and tell all book, when he has to do stuff like this.
They only wanted "privacy", yeah right!

custardbear · 24/04/2023 17:02

I cannot abide H&M and think they're toxic, grabby, manipulative self righteous wannabes.
However I think Harry should attend his fathers coronation.
Meghan, no, stay away, massive drop to the basement in popularity in the UK ... you've gone too far

Sudeko · 24/04/2023 17:02

Nobody will actually mind him being present. it will raise viewing figures. The quick visit benefits everyone.

converseandjeans · 24/04/2023 17:06

Why do you care? It's ridiculous that people are so invested in this nonsense. He really can't win. He agrees to come over and that's wrong. If he decided to stay away that would also be wrong. I can see why Meghan is staying away. The British Press have hounded her.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 24/04/2023 17:06

Can you imagine the outrage if he didn't go? Or if both he and Meghan came without the kids? OR if they brought the kids (knowing that they weren't invited)?

They literally can't win here.

EdithWeston · 24/04/2023 17:10

Because he wants to.

He doesn't need more of a reason than that.

And although we've been told it will be a brief trip, we don't really know how long, nor what contact he'll have with family and friends.

Hhmmm I wonder why?! Could it be all their lies, misdirections of truth, entitled behaviours, nastiness and shenanigans are coming to bite them on the arse?! Yup!

So what should he do then?

It seems like such a meaningless gesture though when a) Harry isn't even going to speak to his father and b) he's going to rush off back home as soon as the ceremony is over. It's all just for appearances, which is utterly pointless.

Yes @Sudeko I suppose that's it.

It does seem that he won’t be able to build bridges with such a fleeting visit.

Honestly, I think either they should all come, smile, make a fucking effort and go to the family lunch afterwards, even have Archie's birthday party here in the UK. I mean, we have cakes and balloons here too! Or all stay away. It seems really clear that Harry doesn't want to come and is only doing this flying visit to please Charles. But if I was Charles I'd be gutted, not only by Harry's appalling attacks on a father who seems to have been distant, but basically kind and well-meaning, and for thinking that showing his face is enough. Not a kind word to his father on this most momentous of occasions. Just a 'I'm coming, but I don't want to speak to you'. What an utter spoilt tosspot Harry is.

Apparently he can't win for losing around here.

How do you know he won't speak to his father? Did you read it in a rag?

How do you know that, are you privy to their conversations?

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 24/04/2023 17:28

Oh did he not tell you? Maybe his text explaining to you is on its way.

custardbear · 24/04/2023 17:30

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea
I've already said he should go. Personally think he should grovel to all those people he's shit on for a filthy dollar ... but that's just my opinion

Wonnle · 24/04/2023 17:31

To be able to carry on flogging crap to Royalist mugs ?

AtChoService · 24/04/2023 17:31

Maybe Charles and the rest don't want to speak to Harry. Would you? Maybe the others all said they won't go if he's around as he'll be gathering material for his next book or show.

Rhondaa · 24/04/2023 17:32

Because much as he seems to loathe them he needs the Royal link for his US enablers and paychecks.

I fear that's the sad truth. Otherwise, why bother to make such a mean-spirited and grudging trip?

You need to stop reading the sensationalist clickbait articles and see what actually happens.
