The PR Whodunnit?

So what is this all about then?
Who did it and why?
And whoever's PR team is responsible needs tearing off a strip, it's going to backfire.
I know there was a thread about this earlier today but it was deleted due to questions over how genuine the OP was. As this story is everywhere at the moment I thought I would have a try myself and see how we go. Just a couple of preemptive points:

  1. My MN credentials are rock solid so don't anyone even go there😁
  2. Lets also keep some perspective, at the end of the day we are talking about a bunch of privileged and entitled millionaires who likely wouldn't even pee on us if we were on fire and that goes for both 'sides'.

🤞🤞🤞🤞

Meghan wrote to King Charles expressing concern about unconscious bias in the Royal Family - report

The letter was reportedly sent after the duchess said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that a senior royal had speculated about how dark her unborn son's skin would be.

Team M

Roussette · 22/04/2023 22:02

What is there to discuss?

Meghan and Charles exchanged letters

Nothing much more to be said?

And yes Storzmzy, I vouch for you, I recognise your name!

CornforthWhite · 22/04/2023 22:06

It’s just all very sad. I’m sure everyone agrees about that.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 22/04/2023 22:06

Didn't BP issue a statement at the time to say. Recollections may vary / they would deal with it internally.

So Meghan sent him a letter . He responded - she is not happy with the response. Until we know what is in the letters there isn't much anyone can add is there?

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/04/2023 22:14

I suspect Team M leaked it as I can't see that Team C have anything to gain from it.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/04/2023 22:14

Thanks Rousette👍

I just thought the timing was interesting, bringing up something that happened two years ago today. What is to be achieved by raking this up again? I don't think that's in anyway helpful for either party. It don't think it's the Telegraph just making it up on the hoof either so someone thought it would be a good move.

OP posts:
MamoruHisaishi · 22/04/2023 22:22

It's team Sussex. I don't see why BP would want this racism claim to be revived again being so close to the Coronation, and after having already addressed it as “recollections may vary”.

MamoruHisaishi · 22/04/2023 22:24

This leak actually reminds me of the 5 friends discussing Meghan’s letter to her father in People.

Rowthe · 22/04/2023 22:25

I think team Sussex released thisnroght now, especially as it's so close to the coronation.

Team Charles has nothing to gain.

MamoruHisaishi · 22/04/2023 22:35

Yep, I think it is team Sussex. As to the reason why, the article states the reasons, citing disappointment from the Sussexes regarding the lack of mention of their children in the invite, made to feel second best to the Wales (such a bizarre claim when the Monarchy is meant to work that way), the delay of update on their children’s titles, lack of reaching out to Meghan regarding the coronation, and all the other previous issues that the Sussexes had with the palace.

Livingwitheyesclosed · 22/04/2023 22:40

Team Sussex. No doubt.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 22/04/2023 22:54

Interesting. I am surprised they can't trace any records pre1990. Tax, records. Pensions - I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to find the records. Maybe the figures would would show what they don't want us to see?

Wingedinsectsunite · 22/04/2023 22:55

CornforthWhite · 22/04/2023 22:06

It’s just all very sad. I’m sure everyone agrees about that.

Yes very much in agreement but it’s a little more than sad if there are serious concerns about racism within the RF or it’s staff to this current day.

Especially if, as the op’s article seems to suggest, that someone very much involved with, or close to, the Coronation is responsible for speculating about the colour of a baby’s skin.

I would imagine the reason it’s been brought up at this point is, tactically speaking, if someone had previously found their concerns rejected or dismissed, they know they are more likely to receive a response with Coronation day fast approaching.

Shoelacesundone · 22/04/2023 22:59

She couldn't decide whether to come. She decided not to come when she couldn't delay it anymore. She worries it might look bad. She issued this story so she can come back and expand on it later if she wants.

They're all hurting and need to communicate privately.

They're all playing the same game. Whilst saying only the other side are.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/04/2023 23:06

But the article says MM said it wasn’t racism and wasn’t said in malice.

This is one of the reasons this is going to backfire.

What? Sounds more like trying to grab KC by the short and curlies. Not a good tactical move I don’t think.

I do think we will be seeing more of this in next week or so.

Team Sussex have released a statement about it via Scobie. If I was unbothered and over what happened when I was a member of the royal family, I don't think I would have released a documentary talking about my time as a member of the royal family a few months ago

The statement is about 2/4 year old correspondence not Netflix/ Spare

The statement is about 2/4 year old correspondence not Netflix/ Spare

The vast majority of Netflix/Spare was about their time in the royal family which clearly they were dwelling over quite recently

SidekickSylvia · 22/04/2023 23:33

I think it came from the Sussex's, because Omid Scobie has done that Homer Simpson type denial again.

MamoruHisaishi · 22/04/2023 23:46

i don’t think the statement proves they didn’t leak it. Meghan via her lawyer told the court that the she and Harry had nothing to do with the Finding Freedom book, and she was forced to backtrack her statement when the correspondence leaked that the Sussexes had shared stories to Omid on what to write in his book.

skullbabe · 23/04/2023 04:13

Interesting how the article was changed to remove references that that speak to her feelings - meaning that this was again speculative.

But we can now can confirm that the conversation did happen and that it wasn’t Charles who talked about skin tone. It’s interesting isn’t it that the leak comes from the Telegraph of all places and not the myriad of sympathetic press available to H&M when they had the chance to reveal the existence of these letters or name who made the racist comments during the docuseries or in Spare but chose not to.

To me - the Telegraph, the backtracking by the journalists and the amendments on the article and now Meghan’s statement make it clear that this came from Buckingham Palace. We have now established from this that a conversation did happen about skin colour, Charles was not the person who said it and that Meghan and Charles were cordial after the Oprah interview.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 23/04/2023 05:16

Valentine Low and other royal correspondents have been forced to retract their claims that this was a leak from team Sussex.

It appears both the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace have sent out lawyers letters over the story.

This is good news, and is the first time Buckingham Palace has acted in concert with the Sussexes over the press. It's also good to see the active malice that these Royal Rota journalists have against Meghan exposed. As she says, the whole thing is an exhausting circus of their own creation.

It's a very strange story because no one seems to benefit. But Victoria Ward seems quite balanced normally, at least in comparison to Camilla Tominey, so she must have had a source. Perhaps its someone from the sidelines/ a RF courtier or Sussex staffmember acting independently.

It makes no sense for Meghan to stay away due to these letters. But the article also mentions H&M gripes about Archie and Lillibet not being included in the coronation plans. Harry said ages ago that they'd come to the coronation if some problems were ironed out, the ball's in the RF court etc. etc.

I'd say it's pretty obvious those conversations weren't productive from the Sussexes point of view which is the real reason why Harry is coming alone.

This is what the Telegraph article said about that:

The Palace is also aware of the Sussexes’ frustration that initial email correspondence about the Coronation made no reference to their children and their potential involvement. The omission only fuelled their feeling that their family plays second fiddle to the Waleses.
Following the late Queen’s death, the Duke and Duchess confirmed that they would like their children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, to use the Prince and Princess titles they had automatically inherited.
But the Palace’s delay in recognising the children’s elevated status caused frustration, not least as the Prince and Princess of Wales’s titles, and those of their children, were swiftly changed upon the late Queen’s death.
The Duke of Sussex made clear in television interviews in January that he was holding out for an apology from his family, when he insisted he wanted to reconcile with the King and the Prince of Wales.
