The PR Whodunnit?

So what is this all about then?
Who did it and why?
And whoever's PR team is responsible needs tearing off a strip, it's going to backfire.
I know there was a thread about this earlier today but it was deleted due to questions over how genuine the OP was. As this story is everywhere at the moment I thought I would have a try myself and see how we go. Just a couple of preemptive points:

  1. My MN credentials are rock solid so don't anyone even go there😁
  2. Lets also keep some perspective, at the end of the day we are talking about a bunch of privileged and entitled millionaires who likely wouldn't even pee on us if we were on fire and that goes for both 'sides'.

🤞🤞🤞🤞

Meghan wrote to King Charles expressing concern about unconscious bias in the Royal Family - report

The letter was reportedly sent after the duchess said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that a senior royal had speculated about how dark her unborn son's skin would be.

@PreparationPreparationPrep

Dalmation’s name changes are quite transparent, I fail to see any issue.

Sorry @StormzyinaTCup I'm only replying to this because I've been tagged!

Because if we all or even half of us did that what kind of discussion would that be!

I always find it a bit strange when posters think that these arguments are "royalists" v "republican". Meghan and Harry have made it very clear that they support the monarchy, enjoy the titles and very much wanted Archie and Lilibet to be Prince and Princess. Their right, their choice. They're not on some sort of righteous republican crusade. It's very much about other issues.

I'm not sure if that was a reply to me. but that wasn't the question.

I wrote l, I find it interesting that royalist elevate K&W as if it compensates for C&C lack of popularity and will they be doing this throughout Charles reign

INTERESTING. So on balance, it looks like it could have been from the Sussexes side but probably not someone official but they somehow have some sort of plausible deniability that means they can send out letters from lawyers perhaps.

Either way, it’s not all that damaging, just gossipy. If Harry says they’re not racist and Meghan says it wasn’t malicious, they should know!

I thought it was this.

However I do wonder if it was a story provided a while ago - defending the Sussexes position when Harry was saying they weren't racists and it's been sat on by press till now - with additional stuff round the coronation being added to add spice and update the story - to try and reignited the racist story and/or stir up ill feeling towards the as Sussexes and sell papers.

Hi all,
We know why polkadotdalmation has changed her name on this thread, and we're fine with it, thanks. We're going through this thread now for PAs, goadiness and other infringements, please could everyone keep in mind the guidelines and report any concerns rather than go on the attack on the thread?

That is disgusting, honestly can't stand that awful family. Also, I suspect most immigrants at that time would have been from Commonwealth countries which makes them even more two-faced(!). It's very telling that they are still in a position where they are exempt from race & sex discrimination laws.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 12:03

@Cardimum I think in the 60s it wasn't uncommon to hold these views. People still got away with not allowing POC (not so politely phrased as that), Irish and travellers to rent rooms.

Of course it doesn't make it right but all this focus on what was the norm over 60 years ago before most of us were born, is typical of the anti monarchist Guardian.

I don't trust them any more than I trust the daily Mail to be balanced.

You can only judge the RF or any other employer on how they behave now, so it would be interesting to see how the staff ratios pan out. I suspect more white middle aged men who went to Elton, simply because of the way the institution has always worked, though

Maireas · 23/04/2023 12:07

It wasn't in reply to you, @PreparationPreparationPrep , more a general observation, as some posters seem to believe that their actions are to challenge the institution of monarchy. Meghan and Harry are not motivated by this, imo

Maireas · 23/04/2023 12:10

60 years ago, things were different in the UK. I don't think many employers practices would look good to modern eyes, not least because the Equal Pay Act had not been passed.

notanotheroneagain · 23/04/2023 12:12

@Novella4
This 'leak' establishes that it wasnt Charles who made the racist / unconscious bias comment
So the court of king Camilla benefits from a bit of distraction
Camillas PR has been on overdrive recently and the soft soap hasn't worked , in fact it has constantly reminded people of how they both treated Diana
What is next in the PR handbook? If you can't pull yourself up , pull someone else down
Who is it pulling down ? Who ever made the remark .
Who was that ?
William - either he was clueless or he thought he was funny . He can't be nakedly racist can he ?

Don't see how people can't see this.
We had all sorts of phone ins and and comments from the public who are not happy about CPB being called queen in the last few weeks.

Meantime, as I said before, grab the popcorn, because this must be the 5th stealth anti W&K article we had recently.

H&M or friends would have leaked the letter ages ago. They have been sitting with 'recollection may vary' for so long.

H is portrayed as a loose cannon who 'trashes' his family, so why would he leak a letter instead of going by his usual, of coming out and saying something. And if the reason MM is not coming is because of unsatisfactory dealing with the racist comment, then he would say so, just as he told Bradby, we don't know what can happen from now till the coronation. (Yes, it could be the reason, but if he wanted to put that out there, I think he would do it himself instead of leaking a letter).
Infact, if MM was not invited, I think he would publicly state as such. As for A&L, everyone knows that the younger dc are not going even the Wales dc.

None of this washes as an excuse.

No, H&M do not have the Torygraph as their regular uk paper. This story was written by Victoria Ward - who is anti H&M, not Bryony Gordon.

This story diverts away from anti Camilla and cost of coronation, while absolving C and CPB (by extension).

Yes ironically I consider myself a soft republican - I'm not marching in the streets but given the chance I would vote to abolish the monarchy. I think it's possible to not support a system but also not want the people in it to be monstered, and to feel uncomfortable when they are publicly mistreated. I think the way M&H have conducted themselves has been appalling and I don't believe anything they say. It's completely separate from my feelings on monarchy.

Maireas · 23/04/2023 12:27

Absolutely, @tigger2022 .

Sudeko · 23/04/2023 12:37

Maybe one of the five young mums leaked it 😃Of course, there is an incentive to leak something when the focus is on the coronation. You would actually expect it, given the history,

Sudeko · 23/04/2023 12:38

I hope they leak the identity of the racist royal and it is whom I suspect it to be. It will make the coronation more interesting to watch 😡

Howsimplywonderful · 23/04/2023 12:44

Last time Meghan’s dad sat on the letter for months until a nudge from Meghan’s friends via People prompted action

@Sudeko - I thought they were rowing back from the racism claims, do you not believe M&H

I don't think you can row back from them necessarily as the damage they caused is largely irreversible. I think that something careless was said which was subject to multiple interpretations but a deal has been brokered to put on a united front and give that senior royal the benefit of the doubt.

notanotheroneagain · 23/04/2023 12:51

There is no rowing back on anything.

The article clearly states that she still thought it was racist. And goes on to explain how doubling down on unconscious bias leads to full blown racism. And how that is a problem.

Maireas · 23/04/2023 12:51

But Harry said they never accused them of racism, it was the British press.

I've said it before, but people who say they're Republican but who support H&M are actually Royalists. The only reason they know about or care about H&M is precisely because they are members of the Royal Family.

True Republicans wouldn't support any of them at all.

Serenster · 23/04/2023 12:56

The article clearly states that she still thought it was racist.

The first version of the article, you mean. That sentence was then removed.

Roussette · 23/04/2023 12:57

True Republicans wouldn't support any of them at all.

And they wouldn't speak out at where 44 articles were written in a 24 hour period knocking H&M, but mostly Meghan? Yes, forty four in 24 hours.

I am no royalist, but if I saw that sort of thing about Kate, I would be speaking out at how awful that was.

It's not about 'supporting', it's about the hounding of them, even when they aren't doing anything.

tigger2022 · 23/04/2023 12:58

@MrsFinkelstein maybe a bit off-topic but H is clearly more keen on the trappings of royalty and symbols of status than he likes to believe. He's not anti-royalist in any sense of the word, he's irritated by his place in it.
