As the late Queen said 'apres moi le deluge' and here we are 3 weeks away from a coronation in which only 9% of the population are highly interested.

Well that’ll be some going down with a chara from the village then given that they won’t have to queue or pay extortionate prices for an ice cream. You know, given that no one is interested. Saint Diana will be looking down from heaven as well. Where she reigns eh Vera?

Or it could all just be frothy pish as usual and they could be chin deep in flags and bunting and jostling for a glimpse of the new King and Queen.

Time will tell.

Kittykatchunjy · 16/04/2023 22:43

We're celebrating but in our 50's, it's definitely at a cross roads

vera99 · 16/04/2023 22:51

Last time I trust the Daily Express - they had me going for a moment with their hyperbole. I picked up the front page off the Republic Twitter feed where it was framed as even the Royalists are accepting that there it trouble at'mill, which of course there is. There is a lot of riding on the coronation so no pressure !

Amazing really..i don't know 9 people with any interest in it..

😂😂😂 same!!!

PollyPeptide · 17/04/2023 00:26

I'm one of the 9%. I can't wait. ⛪ 👑 We've got a lovely big party arranged. 🥳

Just to note - the Court Circular has listed Princess Anne's birthday in past years. Nothing else pencilled in for that day even though she's alleged to be the royal donkey at the wheel.

TBH I always thought the wheels would fall off the gravy train once QEII passed on. The only thing that surprises me is the warp speed at which it's happening.

@CathyorClaire I am retired but I never once in my whole working career (40 years) worked on my birthday. It was a decision I made and stuck too. We all have at least 28 days leave and everyone could do the same.

Princess Anne should be allowed to decide whether or not she works on her birthday.

MillieOns · 17/04/2023 00:36

The Royal Family took a nose dive as soon as Queen Elizabeth died. We are now left with a family who squabble. They are no role models.

If the RF collapsed tomorrow life would still go on, as normal, for us mere mortals. The collapse of an entitled family wouldn’t matter to most of the people of the UK - once the “shock and disbelief” 🙄 has died down.

VivienneDelacroix · 17/04/2023 00:38

They need to bring back It's A Royal Knockout. I'd watch that over the Coronation.

Topseyt123 · 17/04/2023 00:48

Who the fuck sets any store at all by a Daily Express article? They talk such bollocks.

I think that they misjudged the effect that the double whammy of both the cost borne by the taxpayer and the elevation of Queen Camilla which offends a lot of folks. Then mix in Andrew and the Harry brouhaha and you have a recipe for the perfect storm and all of that pomp and pageantry taking place against the backdrop of a darkening country and world.

I agree.. The Harry situation, Andrew and Fergie..
They ought to all fund themselves now The Queen and Prince Philip are gone.

I'm sick of the Taxpayer funding their bloody 'Security'.

If they want to pay for themselves, Different story.

The Excess as Private Eye love to call it majors on Brexit, Madeleine McCann and Lady Di conspiracies but are now owned by Mirror Group. They endorsed Liz Truss for PM. That said the report that they sensationalise is a friendly word in their ears. Reform of die basically. K&W will need to graft something they seem to have an aversion to. And skip the foreign jollies and concentrate on the home front. H&M would have been a key asset - but they have let that ship sail away.

The recent rot set in with Andrew and Harry...Harry is far from an ''Asset''...More of an 'Ass'..

As someone old enough to have watched it play out I'd say the rot set in with the Charles/Diana/Camilla saga.

Surely nobody who's been around long enough to watch that train wreck unfold can have any respect for Charles as monarch. I think it's cute that he talks to his vegetable patch - but ruler of the Commonwealth and head of the Church? - come on!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 17/04/2023 01:56

Apparently 2/3 of all royal engagements are done by King Charles and Princess Anne, the two oldest members are doing most of the engagements, it’s ridiculous, it has been said the younger royals would rather get behind a cause (probably from the comfort of their own home) than do the boots on the ground grunt work of cutting ribbons and digging holes for planting trees, and this is where I think it will fall apart, if Kate and William don’t do the old fashioned royal duties they will become even more elitist and distant figures than they are now and it will be their downfall, they need to pull their fingers out and do a lot more ‘basic’ engagements of helping local charities etc, if they don’t they will be the architects of their own demise. I think some younger royals should be drafted in, Beatrice and Edo are a glamorous couple I think they would be an excellent addition to the royal workforce, Anne cannot carry the load forever.

Yes, that's probably when rot first set in.

They just need to fund themselves entirely, including all the 'Security'.

It's not like they haven't two pennies to rub together, they are a phenomenally wealthy family.

I do respect Princess Anne..She is at least hard working, and never took 'Titles' for her children.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 17/04/2023 02:02

why on earth should they represent the country and do work as instructed by the government if they have to pay for it themselves? that’s like us mortals going to work and paying our boss for the privilege.

Wedoronron · 17/04/2023 02:38

I honestly don't know more than my elderly aunt who will watch it. I am going to a party on the day with about 50 guests and the TV will definitely be off!
Can't believe anyone would want to see someone born into privilege being given a title. How can we still be lapping up this stuff?

Were you that upset with Charles when he wrote his book?

Throwing his mother and father under the bus?

vera99 · 17/04/2023 06:52

Listening to LBC yesterday and one of the presenters was doing a coronation hour and there were a lot of seeming royalists pushing back against Camilla getting the full anointing stuff. They accepted that she had made Charles happy but found her 'elbowing' into the ritual a step too far.

Stats - average work days per royal 84.5 days worked/year x 7.5 hrs = 633.75 William and Kate’s Wage £23,000,000 / 633.75 = £36,291.91 per HOUR.

I'm going 'working' to a jazz club tonight and tomorrow will be going into London to open a coffee shop followed by a working lunch in a restaurant where I will ask questions of the staff who will look at me as if I am mad. I may buy the Big Issue and allow myself to be photographed doing so. Can I get paid for all that ?

Yes, I fully expect the public to squirm the minute that Camilla receives annointing and the crown. For some it might be an unexpected squirm sensation.

The ultimate global triumph of the OW as it were, normally verboten on MN and a lot of viewers will process that could have been Diana. Given that HMLTQ wouldn't go to the church wedding I think we can surmise she would not have been amused.

Roussette · 17/04/2023 07:48

Yes, there is certainly no 'low key' for Camilla. I think it's all a bit much actually.

vera99 · 17/04/2023 07:54

One suspects that Charles, as ever, gave into pressure whereas sage advice would have been to have left her as a seated significant other to the 'holy' spectacle.

Members of the royal family should be told that they either be working royals and do public engagements etc or get a job and fund themselves. No being funded by the British public to sit around on their arses doing naff all.
