Public engagements fallen

rattymol · 16/04/2023 10:41

Royal engagements have fallen from 3338 in 2014 to 2079 in 2022.
He Queen used to do more engagements even as a 90 year old, than her grandchildren.
Engagements falling by more than a third is significant. What is the point of them if they are not even going to do what they are supposed to do?

I suppose it was a bad year last year with the Queens illness and death in September.

Novella4 · 16/04/2023 11:15

Too afraid of boos and eggs

It must take a while hand picking an audience

Lisbeth50 · 16/04/2023 11:17

Bear in mind that since 2014 Harry & Andrew are no longer available, Prince Philip retired & died, there were 2 years of covid restrictions and the Queen died. The Duke if Kent is also increasingly fragile so I can't imagine he does much anymore. Lots of change and upheaval. Add into that Charles's desire for a slimmed down monarchy and it's hardly surprising.

vera99 · 16/04/2023 11:18

Looking like the lot of them will be getting improvements necessary and a 3-month review of progress and if they don't go up a grade will need to be managed out. 😀

This.

You could say that about the police and the courts. I'm not impressed with that thug getting a suspended sentence for throwing five eggs at the King (or anybody really). Would you want to go to work knowing there's someone out there wanting to throw stuff at you?

MrsFinkelstein · 16/04/2023 11:20

2020-2022 was the height of Covid - it would be surprising if engagements did decline.

Also the number of working Royals has been significantly cut back. (Older Royals cutting back, Andrew 🤢, Harry & Meghan stepping back).

For those who want a slimmed down Monarchy - the end result is fewer public engagements.

What do you want? Loads of "Royals" hanging about to keep "engagements" up or a slimmed down number of working Royals who obviously do a reduced number. You can't have it both ways.

MrsFinkelstein · 16/04/2023 11:21

didn't decline 🙄

HellonHeels · 16/04/2023 11:21

If this slimmed down monarchy goes on there will be fewer engagement opportunities as fewer available to do them.

That's before you start to consider whether or not the younger members are pulling their weight.

Novella4 · 16/04/2023 11:24

Show this so called 'slimming down' of monarchy please ?

More lies and PR guff

Will it result in less money taken by the Windsors from the people ?

Will the Windsors remove the rule stating their take fro the state can NEVER go down no matter what the state of the economy ?

He should have saved them for Farage. What would you consider a decent sentence ?

@Pixiedust1234

Where do you read it was a suspended sentence ?

He got community service
He defended himself and admitted it ( he wasn't exactly hiding )

His costs were paid by crowd funding and the excess given to charity

rattymol · 16/04/2023 11:32

2022 was not the height of covid. I was at work as normal all through 2022.
Yes older members die, but they have younger members. William and Kate did less engagement's each n 2022 than the queen was doing as an elderly woman.
Their money from the taxpayers is the same or more. If they do a third less, maybe they should have one third less payment?

He said he instead planned to impose an unpaid work order and asked Thelwell: "Do you want to say anything about that? Or are you are just relieved?"

Thelwell laughed and said: "Yes."

He added that he had recently given up his university studies which prompted the judge to ask Thelwell if he had the means to pay the £600 prosecution costs.

Thelwell told the court he had previously been self-employed and asked the judge: "Do you need any gardening doing?"

"Surprisingly not," the judge replied.

The whole shifty lazy cabal revolt me. I cannot imagine the levels of entitlement and greed that motivate them.

It's funny that he asked the judge. He wore high heels. What a character 😂

And Sadiq Khan gets rid of the leader and does an overhaul when that happens. So, no not the same.

Viviennemary · 16/04/2023 11:50

I think it's fine. There are fewer royals now to do the mundane stuff.

rattymol · 16/04/2023 11:51

William and Kate said they were going to do less engagements but do more work around each engagement to maximise their impact. That still hasn't happened.
No doubt we will in a years time have another launch of the early years centre, more Wimbledon and film premiere events, and another earshot party.
When Anne gets too old to do engagements they are buggered.

5 eggs. I think he missed on purpose, just to make a statement.

And yes, the expenditure has not gone down despite 'the extravagant H&M' leaving.

Please no! No more ' the early years are important because ... of the importance of the early years '

Just reinstate Sure Start

rattymol · 16/04/2023 11:56

Viviennemary there are plenty of them. Sophie and Edward, Charles and Camilla, Anne, William and Kate, and the Kent couple.
But even without the Kent couple, are you really saying seven adults can't manage 330 engagements a year? And it is common for someone to do two or three engagements in one day.
That is only 47 engagements each.
There are plenty of them. They just don't want to do the job.

It will keep happening. And royalists will continue to insist that it makes a difference when it actually does bugger all

Sorry should have been 470 engagements a year each.
