Kate - walkabout with Harry & Meghan after Queen’s death one of the hardest things she’d done.

Thought she’d shot daggers at Meghan when she got out of the car!

Wonder why that was?

That was before the Netflix doc and Spare release as well.

Coincidence this is being published now before H&M confirm if they’re going to accept the invite to the coronation?

Kate: Walkabout with Harry and Meghan 'one of hardest things ever'

Kate and William's appearance with Harry and Meghan to greet well-wishers and view the flowers outside the gates of Windsor Castle came two days after the Queen's death at the age of 96

Why should you feel bad for her?

It’s called empathy. Someone with death threats and white powder sent to her house by people claiming to love the royal family, had to be exposed to thousands of royal fans and was clearly nervous and scared.

I think she was more nervous about their reaction to her given the OW interview etc. I’d imagine she never thought she’d have to be face to face with the British public again.
If she was that worried about security, she wouldn’t have rolled down her car window when arriving at the jubilee to allow photographers to take her picture.

Yes - Harry would surely have remembered, if Meghan did not know, that Camilla was poked with a a stick when she had her window open while travelling to an official event.

(Also just noting that they all receive threats. The police have seen a large increase in the number of people in the Uk that they need to monitor because of the threat they are deemed to pose to various members of the family).

I think the walkabout of the four of them was a mistake. They obviously can't stand each other. But this book coming out now is stirring things up. Whole article in the DM about the walkabout. If they do come to the coronation the tabloids will have a field day. But Harry nas only himself to blame after the book and interviews.

@Cozzadelsol Amen 🙏

Just highlights what an over privileged and charmed life she’s had is that’s one of the hardest things she’s had to do.

I agree with you. They wanted to present a united front but feelings are still raw. The only person who looked ok was PW. I guess he has learned to keep his feelings unchecked for the greater good. I noticed H seemed to completely ignore K.

Gilmorehill · 08/04/2023 12:18

keep his feelings checked!

But we don’t know if Kate even said it!! Or meant it that way!

Logicoutofthewindow · 08/04/2023 12:27

To be fair when someone has gone on tv and launched their claims of what happened to them and a one sided perspective it wouldn't be nice meeting that person and having to walk around with them with hundreds of cameras catching every glance, all the body language etc.

Now the book has been published it will be much worse to meet up.

Personally I wouldn't be in the same room with H & M without a witness in case they wrote a book about everything that they perceived 'occurred'.

I had a shit upbringing with plenty of hardship, I'd also find it impossibly hard to lose a much loved family member and then go in front of the world's media with a couple who have spoken shit about me and about said beloved family member. I suspect that sort of stress isn't one most people can identify with or imagine sounds horrible.

Have you had to do a walkabout in front of hundreds of people, with the worlds’ press watching your every move whilst dealing with a high profile bereavement?

I'm sure it was far harder for Meghan than it was for bloody kate. We can all see how she stared her down hard before she smiled and waved, yet we're supposed to feel sorry for poor, waity katie, who doesn't know what a hard life is. Don't think so.

I can see how Kate would have gladly made Meghan cry on her wedding day. She's simply horrid.
Meghan had left her babies in another country to do this, thankfully she has a supportive loving DH.

It’s a turn of phrase and if people are going to take the author’s word as gospel then they should also accept that the queen said h and m are ‘quite mad’
I do think Kate was fuming at the walkabout - because she’s not a fake. We’ve all had dodgy relatives turn up to funerals like hyenas round a corpse. Kate didn’t want to be there - she’s not a good actress and yes Meghan looked scared to death

Yeah. I am definitely Team Kate.

Well exactly. I also don't blame Kate for not being all friendly with H&M, why on earth would she? If a family member of mine had done interviews about me, and slated the family, I wouldn't have wanted to walk with them either.

I have actually, a family member was murdered and their funeral was covered by National news.

Mumsnut · 08/04/2023 12:50

I think Kate has had to do some hard stuff. Opening leisure centres with a smile stuck on her face , knowing all the time that anyone anywhere in the world who wanted to had seen photos of her naked the pervious week?

Some of the stunts photographers pulled to get a reaction from her in the early days were grim - my db is a journo and he was appalled. A continual barracking, insults, gibes. Even the physical presence of them a few inches away, every day, whenever she left the house, right in her face , must have been vastly upsetting.

it is a different type of stress and worry than most of us face, but it isn’t nothing.

Ted27 · 08/04/2023 12:57

What ever your views on the Royal family, they had just lost their grandmother and were grieving.
And then you have to go walk about and smile and be pleasant to hundreds of people who never even knew your grandmother, whilst the world's cameras are on you.
Nothing thing to do with how much 'work ' I do or don't do but I think I would find that a very difficult thing to do.
As would you all if you really thought about what it was they were doing.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/04/2023 13:01

Well the previous time that Will and Harry had gone to greet the crowds following a death was when it was their mother. So there may have been all sorts of emotional resonances. And dealing with a sibling who has a book in the offing, and who already has form for making "his" truth public must be tough.

I doubt that the Princess put it in those terms, but the sentiment is recognizable (as anyone with family ups and downs will know, even if ours aren't scrutinised by the press for profit)

The detail that interested me is the claim that by that time, KC and PW had already decided that they weren't to meet PH&MM alone (so there were third party witnesses). I've seen that claim made before, and it does show (if true) how very fractured relationships were (are?)

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/04/2023 13:04

It might have been before the release of Spare but the negativity from H&M towards Harry's family had been coming in waves long before then.

I'm not surprised it was one of the hardest things Kate has ever had to do and I expect it was the same for William (with the exception of Diana's funeral). I was really surprised the King asked them to do it - assume it was him - because relations between the two brothers were extremely low then. I should think they are at rock bottom now.

We had a thread on Mumsnet about this specific walkabout - got deleted, as per.

TBF, when you have someone brief against you in the press so that you have to go on TV to defend yourself from all the lies . And you have your own brother send one of their staff members to take down your wife in court. You also have same brother organise a failed airplane stunt.
It wouldn't be nice to walk with them.

H&M should have cameras with them in case when they report something that took place, it's implied that it's all lies. With a camera recollections do not vary.

Streamside · 08/04/2023 13:16

Kate was bullied as a school girl and has to be protective of her family. I'd imagine being expected to do a walkabout with people who've made public accusations against your family would be difficult for any of us.

Unsure33 · 08/04/2023 13:19

Why bother to comment when this is a non verified comment . I think Kate has handled everything well and this is just to stir things up before the Coronation.

Theunamedcat · 08/04/2023 13:28

Someone she loved had just died of course its hard to go out and engage with the public keep your game face on and do a this while your standing next to a couple who have accused you of racism and generally being mean and nasty

Thats not going to be easy ffs
