The Guardian would not have written a damn thing in that series that was invented or they would have been sued. So what they've written is accurate and I am glad of it too @Roussette and @Itstimeforlunch707

BadgerB · 15/10/2023 14:39

Thank goodness we have the Guardian plugging away with investigative journalism and BadgerB this is not 'tablolid journalism'. Some of what has been uncovered has taken years and years, court cases, challenges to FOI. It's hardly making up crap about Meghan having no friends or whatever.

Journalists, to earn their status, dig out, stretch, even invent, the type of story their proprietors wish to push.
Do you really think those who work for the The Guardian above all this?

No one laughs at William when he proclaims that he is going to ' end the conflict in the Middle East and end homelessness and save the environment all at the same time.

He's not stupid enough to "proclaim" any such things! He has said those are areas he intends to work on/take an interest in/lend his support to.
You've been reading those wicked tabloids!

Homelessness

Britain's Prince William during a visit to Loftus Road, the home of Queens Park Rangers in west London, ahead of the sixth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, to hear how the club has provided invaluable support in the immediate aftermath and in th...

Britain's Prince William launches project seeking to end homelessness

Prince William launched a five-year project on Monday seeking to end homelessness in Britain, saying he was following in the footsteps of his late mother Princess Diana who had alerted him to the crisis when he was a child.

Have journalists just made up this ridiculous hyperbole to make him look silly? This has come from his people.

"project seeking to end homelessness" "peace in the Middle East his lifelong project"

This is not hyperbole. Nobody is claiming he WILL make homelessness disappear; that his lifelong interest WILL bring peace to the Middle East.

This is what the RF is supposed to do, use their media prominence remind the world of problems in danger of being ignored.
(Of course, this doesn't apply to peace in the Middle East now.. All too prominent)

Novella4 · 16/10/2023 08:44

Willy made a fool of himself with that statement that he’d bring peace to the Middle East . Crass and ignorant - it’s nothing new .
And btw NO-ONE with an ounce of intelligence is waiting on any political statement from Willy. Here’s an idea - Maybe don’t be the face of arms deals in the Middle East and then witter about peace ?

I see you have carefully avoided mentioning the years of research that the Guardian have put in to uncovering the facts that the ‘royals’ don’t want the masses aware of .
@BadgerB - which story is untrue ?

Itstimeforlunch707 · 16/10/2023 08:49

I’m happy (as much as a Republican can be) that Wills is backing homelessness charities and I don’t doubt his sincerity but, come on, the irony of someone with at least four palatial homes supporting those with none? Doesn’t it seem oddly inappropriate to anyone else?

Novella4 · 16/10/2023 09:05

The ‘royals’ attitude to homelessness and the environment are dictated by the fact that they are targets of criticism due to their ultra wasteful extravagant lifestyles.
I do not believe for one moment that they are sincere about either but they’ve no doubt been told it will help deflect legitimate criticism as Willy daily takes helicopters between his palaces

Serenster · 16/10/2023 10:02

Willy daily takes helicopters between his palaces

Does he? Some evidence of that would be nice, please.

Roussette · 16/10/2023 10:11

Do you honestly think it would be out there public knowledge? It's kept as secret as possible. We're hardly likely to be party to flight logs!

There are photos that members of the public have snapped, and the Queen criticised them for their helicopter use.

It's hardly going to be advertised is it...

Same with Charles and his numerous helicopter trips.

Novella4 · 16/10/2023 10:16

@serenster
Ha ! Classic tactic - is it the ‘daily ‘ adjective that you object to? You can’t object to the rest can’t you?

Ok I cannot prove that he uses helicopters DAILY .
But we do know that he has how many ? 4 palaces for his family alone ? Fully staffed, lit, warmed , 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

He uses helicopters to get between them . Residents of Kensington have complained about the daily noise . You can take it up with them .

Anyone with eyes to see knows the ‘royals’ are utter hypocrites re tue environment AND homelessness .

And as for Willys crass pledge to bring peace to the Middle East …
His entire family are arms dealer by proxy .

Roussette · 16/10/2023 10:18

What a surprise. Not.

The Royal Family's travel expenses are not listed in the annual reports if they cost below £15,000, as the recent accounts show that 47 helicopter trips were made during 2020-21 that are unexplained

And from the last Royal Report

Royals under fire for 'spending over £2m on helicopters and £800k on private jets'

There's proof if you need it.... the official Royal Report

LolaSmiles · 16/10/2023 12:03

Roussette
I'm shocked. Totally shocked I tell you.

What I don't understand is why so many people who are struggling with the cost of living are flag waving royalists.

@BadgerB- which story is untrue ?

How would I know - or anyone else on the "outside" know, which newspaper stories are true?

Just being in The Guardian doesn't make it Holy Writ

If I said I believed some newspaper story about how awful H&M were I'd be, maybe rightly, castigated for believing it

I believe they are sincere. William went with his dm to meet homeless people and is he actively involved in improving the situation.

He doesnt seem to just make empty longwinded speeches, smile for the paps then vanish.

Roussette · 16/10/2023 15:43

Why on earth has my long reply been deleted? I quoted Guardian sources with a link. I didn't insult anyone and I wasn't rude. I was very careful to be as accurate as possible.

I just painstakingly set out all about the Guardian reports. How they have been researched over years. Who the investigative journalists are and the background of the Head of the investigation.

Yet someone has reported this post? Why?

Yes I'd have thought be be careful about this stuff, we've seen plenty of footage of him driving about in a black Range Rover.

Thank you for clarifying. 👍

I'm taken aback, I really am. I have absolutely no idea why it would be deleted, I have read the TG again, and I can't see what was wrong with it.

And it took me ages to write as I wanted to make sure I was accurate

I give up!

CathyorClaire · 16/10/2023 19:51

Nobody is claiming he WILL make homelessness disappear;

Willy's words verbatim from the article Angrycat2768 posted:

"Through Homewards, we will demonstrate that together we can finally end homelessness"

Can you ask Mumsnet HQ Roussette ?

I missed your post but they are normally extremely reasonable and fair? It might be because you mentioned the names of journalists maybe?

Roussette · 16/10/2023 21:27

@Itstimeforlunch707

Thanks, yes, I've been in touch with them and all is fine. I'll bring up the bones of the post on another thread another time. 😊

LolaSmiles · 16/10/2023 21:37

I missed your post explaining Roussette but started reading the first Guardian link you posted.

I can't imagine you'll have posted anything that breaks the TG, but then again there's some people in the public eye who seem to get posts and threads deleted if there's too many questions asked (wasn't there a period where a certain large family from the telly were getting posts and threads deleted?)

If MNHQ could explain on the thread what the problem was, it would help everyone because otherwise it looks like sharing investigative journalism is banned for certain public figures.
