Camilla walked past Maori greeters

Just been reading twitter that as part of Commonwealth Day, Maori subjects had been stationed outside Westminster Abbey to greet Charles and Camilla with a traditional greeting. Charles stopped and listened to them. Camilla carried on walking holding on to her hat in the wind.
It just looked incredibly rude of her.

@Roussette thank you. My British grandfather left this country starving, and completely anti-monarchy too. He got to Nz and was horrified at how Maori were treated, similar in his view to the working class and poor of his homeland & he worked very hard with Maori in my iwi ( tribe ) to try and get government to return lands or compensate, walking for hours many times to do so. I am not anti British, but I am anti monarchy.

I understand that. You and your family have lived it.

At the end of last year we spent some time in NZ, to say you have a beautiful country is the biggest understatement I could ever make. As I put upthread I would've had to be dragged away from watching the wonderful Maori. We saw a fantastic display in NZ but with children at a remote school (I believe it was Gisborne area), that memory will honestly live with me forever.

Oh that’s so lovely to hear @Roussette Things are improving but NZ is a deeply misogynistic and racist place. Very racist. I prefer living in the UK.

Yes, I could see a bit of that. But maybe not so bad as Australia?

Dunno....

Yeah Australia is terrible! But not much different to NZ with violence against women and things like that. My mum still gets racist abuse on the street and at work in her 70’s.

Roussette · 23/03/2023 15:19

That is truly awful 😲

Whaeanui · 23/03/2023 15:25

It is. It’s hard to try and just put that in a box and not think about it, she’s old, just leave her alone!

vera99 · 24/03/2023 13:00

Miserable racist.

Come on it was windy, give her a break 😂
