Camilla walked past Maori greeters

Just been reading twitter that as part of Commonwealth Day, Maori subjects had been stationed outside Westminster Abbey to greet Charles and Camilla with a traditional greeting. Charles stopped and listened to them. Camilla carried on walking holding on to her hat in the wind.
It just looked incredibly rude of her.

Correction: that was 2020.

Rude

Calmdown14 · 15/03/2023 19:14

These things are timetabled to the minute. She'll have been briefed that she was to walk in and in the wind was doing just that.

Dayvi · 15/03/2023 19:14

Ooh, that was a bit rude.

pilates · 15/03/2023 19:15

It did look rude I must admit.

QWERTTY · 15/03/2023 19:16

There’s a lot of assumptions going on here. Yea she didn’t stop but it looked like she walked up, stopped, turned around and was then gone. We don’t know why or what happened, might be best to wait for the reasoning before attacking her? if she just didn’t want to listen that’s not okay but we don’t have all the facts.

BadgerB · 15/03/2023 19:16

Charles did the nose-rubbing greeting. Maybe she walked on to avoid that

A bit of a breech of protocol to walk ahead of the monarch too. PP was always a step behind QE.
In her defence, the weather was awful and she was hanging on to her hat.

Good point about breach of protocol. I thought they were supposed to care about things like that.

William and Catherine didn't stop. Were they being rude?

Maybe Charles doesn’t?

Nonotmeagain · 15/03/2023 19:22

What will the Commonwealth think? It will be seen as an insult by many. It was sad to see and this just will not go down well overseas.

The optics on this are terrible given the recent accusations against the RF as well as the anti-monarchy chants. She has just given a lot of fuel for the fire and abroad, the RF’s image will be further diminished.

All very sad.

smellyflowers · 15/03/2023 19:22

Looks like she didn't really notice it wasn't a short greeting thing and more a dance.

Possibly - considering she's just had COVID if she had done the maori greeting she'd have probably been accused of spreading death and disease.

PillBoxes · 15/03/2023 19:29

Why didn't she stay at home if she was ill, or grieving, or just didn't want to be there in that miserable weather.

So many excuses for something simple not done, i.e. a few seconds of acknowledgment and a big smile and a nod would have done it.

They are under scrutiny. I get the feeling that Camilla is fed up of all this palaver already and really doesn't like being in the limelight at all. She could abdicate! LOL.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/03/2023 19:38

Her left arm looked rigid to her chest, I wondered how well she was actually

We don't know the facts on this either, but it's certainly true she has a noticeable tremor so perhaps her arm's involved?

I agree , I don't think she likes being Queen at all .

She has a tremor. Her action will be to avoid it showing.

To me it looked as though she was struggling with the weather and the cold and was surprised by Charles stopping to watch, dithered about going back and not being in front of him, took a last minute decision to just get out of the cold wind.

As someone else said - she's human, she rarely breaks protocol so either she decided not to overcorrect once she'd got ahead of him, or she really needed to get out of the wind.

I always watch the full Commonwealth Service including the early arrivals and you'll see a variety of different reactions from the guests. The earlier arrivals often stop and chat longer with the entrance performers - the ones closer to the top of the guest list seem to be more of a rush knowing they've got less time to get through the handshakes inside the Cathedral before the people behind them come.

Princess Alexandra and Princess Anne usually make an effort to talk to people on the way in. Kate and William seem to spend more time on their way out talking and shaking hands.

Beaverbridge · 15/03/2023 20:11

She looks a bit doddery now. Probably wanted to stay home and watch Cheltenham!.

FlyOnAWing · 15/03/2023 20:18

I would have thought given the disastrous tour by William and Kate, that the family would be extra careful with how they engage with the Commonwealth.

If she was feeling very unwell, she should have stayed at home. She was rude.

AgathaTabathaBagatha · 15/03/2023 20:22

Our old Queen would have stopped and watched for a bit and smiled. It's just basic politeness. Those dancers were out in the cold in bare feet, it was the least they deserved! I don't think Camilla has the class or dignity to be a Queen.

WandaWonder · 15/03/2023 20:27

Unless they are actually told us what the situation was we only know how it looks

So I am not going to comment either way

Littlefaeries · 15/03/2023 20:27

If I'd just recovered from covid there's no way I'd hang about for nose rubbing.

FlyOnAWing · 15/03/2023 20:29

Nose rubbing is optional.
And if she is not well enough to be there, she should not go. This is supposed to be her job. If you are too ill to do your job you do not go to work.
