Camilla walked past Maori greeters

Just been reading twitter that as part of Commonwealth Day, Maori subjects had been stationed outside Westminster Abbey to greet Charles and Camilla with a traditional greeting. Charles stopped and listened to them. Camilla carried on walking holding on to her hat in the wind.
It just looked incredibly rude of her.

Honestly have you got nothing better to do, this thread is petty and ridiculous. Who actually cares 🤷‍♀️

Ridiculous to you perhaps but not ridiculous to those people from the Māori culture. I'm from New Zealand and anyone with any knowledge of the Māori culture knows that this behaviour is HIGHLY offensive. So yes some of us do care particularly as we are still under the monarchy in NZ. Camilla needs to up her game significantly or piss off.

FlyOnAWing · 16/03/2023 11:49

Actions like this will hasten countries removing Charles as their Head of State.

Camilla was at work at a Commonwealth event and to ignore an organised welcome by Māori in that context is a serious error of judgment.

It may be, that it was agreed that only Charles would take part in the ceremony, since Camilla had just recovered from covid and could still have been infectious. If so, it aught to have been explained. Walking straight past did not look good

Thing is, from what I've read - and of course this could be wrong, Camilla is perfect for Charles because she can manage his moods/depression/excessive introspection and so on

Diana would have made a wonderful Queen but she couldn't manage Charles at all.

In fairness, it appears Diana struggled with her own emotions, which probably meant she had no life space to manage Charles' lacks

So I guess.... even though (perhaps) Camilla won't be the greatest Queen , at least we'll have a more stable King, because of her

it appears Diana struggled with her own emotions

Is there any wonder given the Circus she was thrust into at 19?

PillBoxes · 16/03/2023 13:34

Let's stick with Camilla's performance or lack thereof. It was rude and unbecoming of a Queen who was there to celebrate the Commonwealth. End of story.

KrasiTime · 16/03/2023 13:47

Thought myself it was a bit rude tbh. And I’m normally a Camilla fan…

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/03/2023 13:49

I think it was incredibly windy that day. Weather warnings and so on.. she looked desperate to hold onto her hat and get out of the wind

Well Kate seemed to manage okay, and hers was a wide brimmed hat

Perhaps Camilla needs a better dresser - not sure who does it now? Pity in a way that Angela Kelly's gone, but somehow I can't see Angela having wanted the job

FlyOnAWing · 16/03/2023 13:55

@BadgerB I did not know having covid 2 weeks ago prevented you from stopping and watching a performance for 30 seconds.

PlanetLuna · 16/03/2023 18:38

I agree with @FlyOnAWing. It seemed awfully rude, no matter what else was going on. It reminded me of how rude she was in Canada, both she and Charles, laughing at the indigenous throat singers’ performance. Just shameful.

That said, I hope her health is okay & that she’s recovered ok from COVID.

Coxspurplepippin · 16/03/2023 19:00

'It reminded me of how rude she was in Canada, both she and Charles, laughing at the indigenous throat singers’ performance.'

The point of particularly Inuit throat singing, is to make your opponent stop, often by making them laugh - it's part of the performance. If you look at videos of Inuit throat singing competitions, the audience are usually laughing too.

this is a great video and explanation

Novella4 · 16/03/2023 19:07

Camilla was laughing at them , not 'with'
She made a weak attempt to hide her face .
It was rude

FlyOnAWing · 16/03/2023 19:20

Is it only black and brown people Camilla is rude to?

OP posts:
OchreDandelion · 16/03/2023 19:21

I also hate this bringing out of all the lovely, smiley brown people to perform for this goddawful family. I wish the people themselves wouldn't do it

Ngāti Rānana, who were the performers, have it as their mission to share Māori culture in London and beyond. They are phenomenal performers and role models and play a huge part in many annual and significant ceremonies both in London and worldwide.

Ngāti = Prefix for a tribal group
Rānana = London

You can see on their website that they are proud of their contribution at the service, "We are grateful to have these opportunities here in Rānana to showcase te ao Māori so far from home". www.ngatiranana.co.uk/

te ao Māori = the Māori world

Their founder, Esther Jessop, is an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit and was at the Queen's funeral. She spoke very interestingly about that here, and about the role of the monarch: You will see she is a very considered, thoughtful, intelligent woman as are all the members of Ngāti Rānana who I have met.

I don't think you need to worry about them anyone "bringing them out" without them fulling understand what and why they were there and it is quite insulting to assume they do not have the capacity to make their own decisions.

Strange post!

It was all over the media. The OP didn't think it up herself Hmm

What has H&M got to do with it? They weren't there.

EdithHowland · 17/03/2023 11:50

C’mon, Roussette, you are an intelligent person - you know the OP (under her many guises) is a superfan and it’s not a question of mentioning M&H or not, it’s all about bringing down “the enemy” - even if it’s poor old Prince Edward looking a bit craggy!

FlyOnAWing · 17/03/2023 11:58

You have run out of arguments to defend Camillas rudeness so the only thing left to do is attack me?

For the record I would not even go for a cup of tea with Harry and Meghan, a rich Hollywood type couple I have zero in common with. But I think some of the comments on MN about them are crazy and way over the top. I think it is crazy to diagnose mental health conditions on people you do not know, to claim to understand all their internal motivations, to call Meghan misogynistic names like bitch, and to claim on no evidence they are on the point of divorce. Does calling out such craziness make me a fan? If it does then it means unless you post awful comments about them, then you are a fan. Itself a crazy position.

I also find it crazy that the same posters will defend anything the rest of the Royal Family does. Literally anything gets excused. As if they are Gods.

'I think it is crazy to diagnose mental health conditions on people you do not know,'

Oh yes, indeedy Hmm

FlyOnAWing · 17/03/2023 12:16

You agree then?

OP posts:
Coxspurplepippin · 17/03/2023 12:22

What, you mean like the diagnosis of depression in the of the Duke of Edinburgh on another thread - I certainly agree that was totally ridiculous and inappropriate.

FlyOnAWing · 17/03/2023 12:24

I did not see anyone doing that, that would be wrong. I did see people saying that he would obviously be sad about the death of his parents in two years. Anyone with non abusive parents would be.

I'm lost.

The OP hasn't posted about Ed.

@FlyOnAWing This is the MO of the 'detractors'! Totally the norm. Attack the poster. Happens endlessly.

FlyOnAWing · 17/03/2023 13:30

@Roussette A bit tiresome.

I don't think you need to worry about them anyone "bringing them out" without them fulling understand what and why they were there and it is quite insulting to assume they do not have the capacity to make their own decisions.

While true about this group, they are essentially representing Maori and they’re certainly not representing how all of us feel or participating in something all of us think is either worthwhile or appropriate. Myself and my whanau do not support the monarchy, they colonised us. So I do see it as bringing out some Maori to give the impression the relationship is harmonious, when in reality that’s not the case for most ordinary Maori in NZ. The treaty of waitangi has never been honoured by the crown, to this day. I can read online through published waitangi tribunal cases the way officials spoke to my grandmother and how horribly they treated her when she was trying to have her contracts with the crown honoured. So please don’t imagine that this one group of Maori in any way represent the feelings of all of us. The PP was making a generalised statement in my view and I don’t think was suggesting this group didn’t know what was going on. The point made was about the monarchy and its behaviour and intentions.

As for the way Camilla behaved, she’s not our Queen so I won’t refer to her that way, it was absolutely rude, absolutely unnecessary and really inexcusable. I hope she has learnt not to do that again, which I’m sure she has, everyone makes mistakes. But I would prefer Maori to not be involved in any British royal family occasion, especially after the way Meghan is being treated in their name.

Roussette · 23/03/2023 14:39

@Whaeanui

Thank you for your explanation of what this all means to you. Smile
