The royal family

Drama between Eugenie/Jack and William/Kate

I missed this last year. Apparently Eugenie and Jack had wanted to love into Adelaide Cottage as their main British residence (they also live part-time in Portugal for Jack's work). But William and Kate successfully claimed Adelaide Cottage instead as their fourth or fifth house?
This apparently led to tension between the two families. Instead Jack and Eugenie live in Nottingham Cottage which has two bedrooms. They already have one child and Eugenie is pregnant. I am guessing this is why they wanted a slightly bigger house.

It was however bought for cash which begs the question of how a pair of workshy royal grifters with husbands who aren't overly wealthy relatively speaking might have accrued such an amount to lash on bricks and mortar.

I have no idea where the money came from. But E's husband works for, has for years, a billionaire property investor, so perhaps he had something to do with it.

Probably some sort of grubby dealing like dad did.

God I’m so tired of reading the phrase “working royals”! None of them fucking work - they live the life of Riley funded by us. All this fighting over who’s going to live in these luxury properties couldn’t be more “let them eat cake”.

Shes having a second child so needs a bigger property?? Well go and bloody buy one then 🙄.

I can't imagine Harry & Meghan paying for another years rent on frogmore

I find it hard to imagine they've ever actually paid a rental penny when the trumpeted original refurb repayment magically expanded to include 'eighteen months market rent' without actually increasing.

To paraphrase: Don't pay We'll Take It Away 💀

On the morning news, it was said that they were given the ‘use of’ the cottage by the Queen. I would infer they didn’t pay rent. It’s mind boggling how much freebies are handed out, even to a pro royalist like me.

ThighMistress · 02/03/2023 10:10

The thing is, when they kept their heads down, the public were ignorant of - nay, even tolerant of - the financial privilege.

Whingeing and whining by various rf family members - who are edging ever farther down the pecking order - shines a light on matters and gets people’s goat at the entitlement.

i don’t begrudge key royals their mansions;I wouldn’t want their jobs and have no desire to rattle around in a giant building. I do, however, feel that some of the crew need to “check their privilege” and if they are not “working royals” then should fade into the background if they are going to accept or demand grace and favour properties.

Brooksbank?

He was a glorified booze salesman up until blotting his copybook on a yacht jolly.

stayathomer · 02/03/2023 10:18

Very intrigued to see how big/ small these houses are (if it’s a quaint cottage in the true sense of the word then even with modern conveniences etc with young kids it won’t be the easiest)

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 11:10

A few of the cottages are genuinely smaller with a couple of bedrooms. But many called cottages or apartments are enormous. William and Kates apartment has 40 rooms.

They did pay rent. The gift was that they paid below market rent like all the royals do.

I am no fan of Andrew but:
He was left Royal Lodge by the Queen Mum
He paid Crown Estate millions to extend the lease by 100 years
He spent several million of his own money refurbishing it.
Any rent is in addition to all of that.

That’s not quite correct. All residences are owned by the crown, he didn’t inherit it. He was just allowed to live there and the queen paid for running and maintenance. He signed a 75 year lease.

It vosts 250 k a year to run and maintain . He can’t afford it. So wants Charles to personally pay it. As the queen did. Charles has said he’s not paying for Andrew to live in a 30 bed 98 acre estate . So is letting him live in frogmore which Andrew can afford . So it’s not just the 250 rent. It’s the running of it that’s the issue.

like if you rent a house, the rent is not the total cost. You still need to pay your utilities, pay the garden etc and I assume he’s also got a lot of staff. As said It’s 30 bedrooms with 98 acres and costs over 10 grand a month to run.

in 2003 when he signed the lease he was a working royal. Im not sure if he paid or the queen did. Either way his brother is not going to pay for him to live there and I’m with Charles on that. Wtf should he after what Andrew has done.

andrew needs to live someoplace he can afford the bills on. so frogmore is a better choice.

Littleflowerseverywhere · 02/03/2023 11:27

Dunno if anyone has seen it but it’s glorious and that’s why it costs over 10 k a month to run,

The Queen paid the running costs according to the press.

What a place!

I find it obscene that Andrew and his ex wife of 27 years are living there. What is the world coming to where this is seen as alright.

Let her go and live in that £6M Mayfair property she miraculously bought last year. Him.... I don't care. Somewhere small and he pays the bills for it. He has a Navy pension (admittedly small), he has sold the nightmare Verbier chalet, his old Mum will have left him a stash being favourite son and being worried about him.

Why should we pay for anything for him. Why should Charles even

ThighMistress · 01/03/2023 15:17

@AmandaJonah one might equally question why Eugenie is now so in favour with your gang, when I’m quite sure you would have previously cast her as a Hooray Henrietta who has married a Chinless Wonder with no discernible job and, unfortunately, is the offspring of a pompous sleazeball and a woman with the hide of ten rhinoceroses.

A bit like our alliance with the Stalin in WW2 - tactical alliances on the road to victory !

ThighMistress · 02/03/2023 11:44

I agree @Roussette

Although I must admit the place is not to my taste: it looks ripe for converting into apartments.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 11:48

My gang!! Who do you think I am?
I don't think any of them should be getting houses below market rent, but I can also see that the Royal Family have clearly split into two camps. That is just a clear fact.

It would bring in a lot of money. Lots of people would pay a lot of money for an apartment in that building.

I agree. It's just massive and the gardens and grounds are meant to be stupendous.

Inside is very regal, I just cannot for one minute imagine PA moving out. Maybe it will all end up on that Bailiffs programme. Grin

his old Mum will have left him a stash being favourite son and being worried about him.

Andrew’s problem is that she won’t have left him a stash.

The only person the Queen will have left anything to is Charles. That’s how they keep the wills secret and how they avoid IHT - it’s all sovereign to sovereign.

That leaves Andrew relying on Charles for anything… Normally it’s not an issue as they all have their roles set out and everyone just continues on, but that’s not going to be the case this time which snookers Andrew’s cushy number.

They can do it in trust. She will have done that. The QM did.

Yes she may have.

I was addressing the (often made on here) point that she’d have left him a wad when she died. She won’t have. It’s not how they do it.

Yes, true. Although we will never know as the RF are in the unique position of being able to have their Wills sealed so we can't see what's in them. Unlike the rest of the population whereby it is impossible to seal a Will. We will be able to see Philip's will in the year 3002. (90 years on)

(There is a process you can try and go through to seal a will but it is very expensive and nine times out of ten, it fails. So no one does it)

Quveas · 02/03/2023 12:17

It must be so very difficult only having several choices of houses to live in. The private sector rental market is getting so hard these days isn't it? My heart bleeds for all of them.

clpsmum · 02/03/2023 12:22

Poor fuckers all of them. Must be so hard being given free homes especially more than one and especially when money is such an issue for them 🙄 zero sympathy for any of them

DewinDwl · 02/03/2023 12:30

I didn't know about all these houses, low rentals, luxury places given to some but not other members of the family etc. This thread is an eye-opener. What a grabby, shady bunch.

Well, whatever camp the Yorks are in is the wrong one IMO.
