The royal family

Drama between Eugenie/Jack and William/Kate

I missed this last year. Apparently Eugenie and Jack had wanted to love into Adelaide Cottage as their main British residence (they also live part-time in Portugal for Jack's work). But William and Kate successfully claimed Adelaide Cottage instead as their fourth or fifth house?
This apparently led to tension between the two families. Instead Jack and Eugenie live in Nottingham Cottage which has two bedrooms. They already have one child and Eugenie is pregnant. I am guessing this is why they wanted a slightly bigger house.

The royal lodge is big but needs millions spent on it as it's in a state of disrepair. It may not be secure enough for kate and William as it near a chapel. Not sure if it's open to the public, in which case not secure enough. Far more suitable for a family of 5 than one man and his ex wife. W&K need a lot of staff.

CathyorClaire · 01/03/2023 20:36

Wasn't it supposed to be Beatrice and Eugenie who bought that house for Sarah Ferguson?

Seems to be a bit of a mystery over who actually coughed but Fergie can't sell it without their written consent.

It was however bought for cash which begs the question of how a pair of workshy royal grifters with husbands who aren't overly wealthy relatively speaking might have accrued such an amount to lash on bricks and mortar. Perhaps another lovely wedding present or birthday celebration donation that just appeared in their bank accounts one day as these things do.

The whole lot of them are a bunch of entitled twats.

Oh, yes.

Is it?

Quite surprised.

The ghastly favourite was once cited as the third richest royal and was rolling prior to his fall from grace. Can't see the oaf who summoned a palace maid up four flights of stairs to draw his curtains living in a hovel.

Beatrice and Eugenie, and the other great-grandchildren, all had large trust funds set up by the Queen Mother. Although she died in debt they were set up in her lifetime.

Part of Fergie’s divorce settlement was also paid in the form of trust fund for them as well.

So with decent investment (or even basic investments) they’ve likely got a fair few quid behind them even before anything set up by the Queen (as I suspect she’ll likely have done).

CathyorClaire · 01/03/2023 20:51

Yes. They've all benefited from opaque trusts and bequests hidden by the scandalous sealing of royal wills but why now and not years ago when they could have saved a couple of million or so?

Could the minors be squealing and running for cover now the regime's all change? 😎

Eugenie is just a drab version of Meghan without the arrogance and fibbing.

What's the matter with her? And what is she fibbing about?

I thought fans of the Institution known as the RF liked her

They’re 32 and 34 so I’d guess that there was probably money released at 30.

It was something that was done with the Wales boys’ inheritances from their mother and I reckon the Queen would do something similar - give them it, but not when they’re young.

CathyorClaire · 01/03/2023 21:13

They'd still have saved a whack two to four years ago.

Especially when Covid meant everyone was selling up London and running for the airy sticks at just that point...

weightymatters73 · 01/03/2023 21:16

They all knew there would be musical houses once the Queen passed.

I can't imagine Harry & Meghan paying for another years rent on frogmore, when they live in the states and rarely come back.

Andrew in all likelihood is running out of cash and needs somewhere smaller particularly now Beatrice and Eugene are no longer there.

Catherine & William were never in Adelaide cottage for the long term (although they did I think believe it would be a necessary move to support the Queen who possibly passed before people were quite expecting.)

The Queens and Queen mothers properties all need passing on, Charles will pass some of his on (although I imagine he will keep Highgrove).

I don’t think the Queen would have wanted any of them spending a fortune during covid - bad optics.

Also will depend if anything was released after the death of their grandfather.

Could be wrong - the 30 thing is just my person hunch.

I actually wonder if it might have been that the Queen lived longer than they expected.

The move was clearly to align with the children starting the new school.

Charles is known not to be keen on Windsor so I think the Wales’ were always going to move out there, but somewhere not treading on HM’s toes had to be found when she was still in residence when they needed to move.

CathyorClaire · 01/03/2023 21:24

I find it hard to imagine they've ever actually paid a rental penny when the trumpeted original refurb repayment magically expanded to include 'eighteen months market rent' without actually increasing.

To paraphrase: Don't pay We'll Take It Away 💀

So. Is Royal Lodge the next grandest house to the actual palaces? If so, and assuming Andrew doesn't actually own it, then it seems right the heir to the throne should have it.

Eugenie has Nottingham Cottage which is beautiful if not small. Why can't Andrew have Nottingham Cottage? A single man. Two beds is enough. Let his daughters have Frogmore & Adelaide.

Out of interest, do Princess Anne's children live in grace & favour homes?

The Queen had a very skewed view of bad optics.

As IF Andrew would go from 30 room, 98 acre £30million Royal Lodge to somewhere like that! I think this is all smoke and mirrors and nothing will actually happen.

Gatcombe Park was bought by the Queen for Anne. It has many properties on it. Zara and Mike Tindall live in one of them. As does Peter Phillips, her brother.

I think Princess Ann's children live on her estate

Surely the royal residences should (where possible) be open to the public, as parts of Holyrood House and Kensington Palace are. The entrance fees would help to pay the maintenance costs.

London ones which can’t be opened for security reasons could be used by MPs to save on second home expenses. Working royals could live in some as part of the job.

Non-working royals (Andrew, Harry, Eugenie etc) can either fend for themselves or convince their close family to put them up in the palaces - I’m sure Edward can spare a couple of rooms when Harry wants to visit.

A lot of the royal estate residences aren't necessarily interesting enough to generate much income from tourism on their own. They do have potential for paying for themselves if used commercially - rented out for business use or rented privately by a rich billionaire who like the idea of being royal adjacent (and who will sink at lot of investment in the upkeep during their leases.)

That would be the best outcome for Royal Lodge, all the other Windsor residences and eventually Bagshot Park where the Wessexes live. That's probably going to be the best outcome for Kensington Palace, Clarence House and St James' Palace too in the long run.

Why don't you post a picture of yourself and lets judge how drab you are?

At least she isn't posting up messages dragging another woman down like you are.

I have no idea where the money came from. But E's husband works for, has for years, a billionaire property investor, so perhaps he had something to do with it.

Tiny violin. Perhaps anyone who is not happy with their free, fully-secure luxury property could just pay for a house themselves like the rest of us do?

Spot on @Forever42
Seriously who cares?

MumOf2workOptions · 02/03/2023 07:30

Meanwhile there are people with awful rogue landlords, damp and mould and poor conditions, people in emergency b&b accommodation, and people just struggling to pay their bills in a normal sized house they work hard for so I don't have much sympathy with this lot I'm afraid.

MumOf2workOptions · 02/03/2023 07:30

@Forever42
You've hit the nail on the head here I totally agree

Mumsnut · 02/03/2023 07:35

I’m sure Beatrice and Eugenia were left something by Prince P and the Queen.

.. enough to fund the Mayfair property
