What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

@Blueyandbingooo And yet millions of people worldwide are expected to watch the coronation? Just saying

Not fair.

I think Andrew is awful, but he really did do 22 years in the Navy (yes opinions of what he was like as a colleague are, shall we say, colourful, but he wasn't an oxygen thief)

Lots of people have had life long careers in the Armed Forces and they don’t get to live like Andrew. It’s only being a RF member that gets him big houses. And like it or not, he was friends with both Epstein and Maxwell - two truly heinous people. His bad judgement when it comes to choosing friends alone should see him living in a one up one down, somewhere next to a working coal mine, in my opinion.

BellePeppa · 01/03/2023 10:20

I haven’t read the whole thread so may have been mentioned but it’s being labelled Frogxit which I think is pretty funny.

TheCraicDealer · 01/03/2023 10:20

If PA is responsible for ongoing maintenance plus presumably utilities of RL and its grounds then the fact he’s only paying £250pw is almost immaterial. Those other costs will dwarf whatever he’s obliged to pay in rent, particularly now. CoL has kicked in for everyone, and he’s no longer got mummy to rely on if things get a bit tight. If it’s a toss up between living in a very recently modernised (and probably energy efficient) home and a sprawling Grade II listed moneypit of a mansion, he’d be nuts not to put his pride aside and just go with it.

And with PH’s living and security costs in the US being $$$ he may very well be glad to have the option to drop the lease and ongoing liability for costs re. Frogmore- especially if there is some sort of private agreement re. a partial rebate for the renovation works and/or FOC accommodation elsewhere when he does visit or for use as his UK address.

Seems like it could be a very tidy solution for all involved tbh.

Uh-oh, I don't think it was H&Ms choice at all to move. They were asked to leave.

Harry says himself they were talking about leaving in 2018, so they were definitely going to go. Best thing for both of them imo. I think what you mean is they weren't controlling the narrative. They wanted half in half out, and they didn't get their own way. Hence they may feel they didn't have a choice, but not getting your own way, is not quite the same.

My thoughts exactly.
They don't really have any need for Frogmore. Soon their children will be in school so as a family would only travel here during school holidays at the very most. If they do come for a short trip there are plenty of RF properties sitting empty which I assume come with security. But my guess is they are not visiting now when the children are not in school so as a family will probably visit even less in future.

I'm talking about Frogmore. There was a chance H&M decided not to renew their lease but I think they were told they wouldn't be able to.

Is it? it's not as seamless as Megxit to me but it will do.

What else do you think he will do to punish Harry, now that his patience has snapped 🤔

It's not about punishing. He's setting boundaries - the concept often talked about on MN.

Yes, I agree it's the best solution all round but we are talking Andrew here. It would be galling in his eyes to not be living on a huge estate with 98 acres where he can ride around like the important person he is.

I just cannot imagine him giving this up easily. Ditto his ex wife, who we pay for in some way or the other. She does some cracking videos in the grounds selling her Mills & Boon books, all dressed up like Royalty from a byegone age.

purpledalmation · 01/03/2023 10:26

Makes absolutely no sense to have a valuable residence leased to a couple who don't need it. I feel the same about holiday homes!

Sorry does she really? Or is this sarcasm? My mind is boggling.

His bad judgement when it comes to choosing friends alone should see him living in a one up one down, somewhere next to a working coal mine, in my opinion. What a snobbish attitude.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2023 10:28

Can people really not see what's going on here. Big headlines about 'slimming down' and appearing like Andrew is being 'put in his place' meanwhile still spending ££££ on the coronation etc. It's all designed to look as though they are 'reading the room' whilst all they are doing is re-arranging the chairs

Exactly this - though I really don't get the excitement over a rumour from the Sun of all places Confused

Not sure about the alleged repayment of the Frogmore refurb costs either; I thought there were reports that the sum had been stretched to include an undisclosed amount of "rent", which would certainly muddy the waters a bit?

Not snobbish. It would be really hard to live like that and he could do with a bit of that.

I wish I were joking. Here you go... poncing about in the grounds of Royal Park.

Roussette · 01/03/2023 10:36

Not sure that worked, but here's another one... excrutiating

Thepurplelantern · 01/03/2023 10:38

This thread shows the real difference about how Harry and Andrew are treated.

I don’t think people really realise how big a social crime it is to speak out loud about family dysfunction. I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t think that the family relationships in the royal family are not completely dysfunctional which is all Harry has spoken out about. But that is apparently worse than allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a minor who had been groomed to go along with the experience by Royal and a lot of posters on MN set of values.

derxa · 01/03/2023 10:38

Morestrangethings · 01/03/2023 10:33

You are saying that people who live in a small house in a mining area are to be pitied. I'm guessing you live in SE England because people up here in Scotland don't think like that. In fact people being angry about houses with 100s of rooms seems ridiculous. Giant houses are millstones round your neck

Roussette · 01/03/2023 10:41

Here's another couple of pics. I find it quite nauseating actually. There she is trading off her title after being divorced over 25 years!

Republic, the anti-monarchy protest group is planning peaceful demonstrations for Coronation day and there is a petition !

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 10:46

So Harry and Meghan's annual lease has not been renewed and Andrew has been given the cottage instead. Harry and Meghan are permanently in America so probably did not want the cottage any more. Eugenie and Jack had been living there, but they have now moved to Portugal. So no reason for Harry and Meghan to renew the lease. A bit less dramatic though than saying they have been evicted.
If Harry and Meghan have given up the lease though it is a clear sign that Harry is never coming back. I doubt they will come to the Coronation either.

caringcarer · 01/03/2023 10:49

tatalan · 01/03/2023 07:31

The story says they were evicted and have to move their stuff out. Harry also has to have a permanent UK residence for tax purposes and being a counsellor of state, if I recall correctly.

You have hot the nail on its head. If Harry no longer has a permanent UK residence he can't be a counsellor of state and I also think it will weaken his case for free security paid for by tax payer. King Charles is quite the strategist it seems.
