What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

I think Royal Lodge will be renovated and William and Kate will move in.

Dear god not more renovations. PA spent over £9m on it to include an indoor swimming pool and cinema. Surely it doesn't need 'renovations'.

mateysmum · 01/03/2023 09:28

I really don't think there's a conspiracy going on here. Much more likely to be simply pragmatic estate management. Apparently Royal Lodge where Andrew currently lives is in dire need of restoration and is expensive to maintain so if Andy has to move out then rather than Frogmore sitting empty (if Jack & Eugenie don't want it) it's a sensible option for Andrew. No doubt some arrangement will be made with H&M re costs and alternative accommodation on their rare UK visits.

Really?

He spent £9million on the £30million property.

Yes, I know you said that? Which is why I suggested the half reimbursement. Not sure why you are tetchy when I replied to your post with that.
I made a suggestion in response to you didn't I?

I dont get your irritation with me to be honest, I called it just my opinion too Hmm

I get fed up with people twisting what people say. Your response to my post (nothing to do with any other posts you made) was it wasn't just copper baths and curtains when I'd already specifically referred to essential maintenance work being different.

Half and half seems a crude way to do it, the structural work could have been 10% of the total cost or 90%. I'm sure they can actually work out what was work they wanted done, designer kitchens, wallpaper or whatever and what was actually needed. Not to mention the work was done years ago so to expect a full refund would be ridiculous, it's like selling something secondhand, Boris might have paid a fortune for his gold wallpaper but it's just secondhand in someone else's taste so pretty worthless now.

Hahaha... as IF Andrew would live in a small flat! He wouldn't. Nor would he be a landlord. He's never done a proper job, unless you call trousering backhanders whilst being flown in opulence round the world to his favourite golf clubs... a job.

Not fair.

I think Andrew is awful, but he really did do 22 years in the Navy (yes opinions of what he was like as a colleague are, shall we say, colourful, but he wasn't an oxygen thief)

Largely because I hate the impression these threads can give

I have spoken to foreigners who see stuff like this and genuinely believe that people in the UK follow or care about the royal family.

Sure, some do, but they simply don't feature in the consciousness of the vast majority of the population, very few people in real life have any interest at all in what they are doing.

I hate these boring non-threads that clutter up the active boards, with the same tiny numbers obsessing about complete strangers, who knows why.

And I do feel duty bound to pop onto them occasionally and point out that to most of the population this is a non issue, happening to non people, who most people in the real world don't give a fig about

Speak for yourself!
The fact that there’s threads surely shows that there’s interest Ffs!

Funny how backgrid are always happen to be there - Harry looks a little dazed

He has lived there for 20 years though It’s perfectly possible that the fabric of the building was in an ok state then and just needed tarting up, but it is now in need of fundamental repairs 🤷‍♀️

EdithWeston · 01/03/2023 09:54

Is there a source for this - I mean a proper one, not just the red tops all coming out with it on the same day?

If H&M have no intention of residing in UK again, it does make sense to look at who is living where (and on what terms). But have they stated that intent? And is this definitely happening, or is it planning options for that scenario if it comes to pass?

Housewife2010 · 01/03/2023 09:56

diddl · 01/03/2023 06:11

Well it makes sense as a 2 bed place is surely suitable for one guy?

Andrew took out the lease for many years I thought on wherever he is now but I suppose it doesn't have to be renewed.

They could all probably easily fit into just one of the residences!

Hasn't Edward & Sophie's gaff supposedly got more than 100 rooms?

Frogmore has 5 bedrooms. Andrew lives (platonically) with Fergie.

Ver fair. Have you read his Wiki page with sources at the bottom. Plenty of dodgy dealings, especially when he was Trade Envoy. (And he tacked on golf holidays on to the end of each one at our expense)

Yellowdays · 01/03/2023 09:58

Interesting dynamic that they can have an actual gift withdrawn. That's not normal.

I thought my response was very fair. Not rude. Just offering what I thought was a solution. Sorry if I have offended you.

You asserted that he's "never done a proper job"

It is that assertion which is unfair.

Unless you don't consider a full 22 year career with the Royal Navy to be proper work?

Samcro · 01/03/2023 10:01

if its true its not a good look. shows the RF put a alleged (yet paid victim off) sex offender above Harry.

Youwhatnowbiggles · 01/03/2023 10:02

Meh, they don’t need a house here since they have no plans to return so why not use it for someone else🤷🏼‍♀️. They’re making so much of the charity gravy train in addition to their whingey stories it really won’t matter to them. As an aside I am really sick of the wealthy starting charities and using them as income streams or tax avoidance, it’s capitalism at its worst.

ReneBumsWombats · 01/03/2023 10:02

How much of a gift was it? I find the whole system around royal funding and estates very confusing, but my understanding was that Frogmore never belonged to any person, just to the royal estate? So the Queen couldn't really gift it as such, she just gave them permission to live there indefinitely...and once the estate had passed to the next owner of the Crown, that could change?

Samcro · 01/03/2023 10:01

They always have. Andrew held on to his ceremonial military titles and taxpayer-funded security for over a year after Harry lost his.

I did wonder if this would happen too, Adelaide Cottage is very small in comparison to other royal residences.
I hope Andrew is downsized; Fergie won’t be happy either! I think he’s going to be squeezed further and further away, step by step.

Ok. Apologies. The Navy. A very worthy career.

After that the freeloading and backhanders started.

Adelaide Cottage was only going to be temporary I bet... and was good PR. No staff living with them (just in houses close by!), shock horror only 4 bedrooms etc.
It was sold to us as a frugal move, but it was an extra property to the three they already have... Kensington Palace, Amner Hall and a cottage on Balmoral Estate. Incidentally, back in 2013 KP was refurbished for £4M plus and we were told it would be their only official residence for years to come, that didn't last long!
I wouldn't mind having a building company in Windsor with all these constant refurbishments... Grin

What else do you think he will do to punish Harry, now that his patience has snapped 🤔
