What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

Not really. According to the publicly known information the Sussexes had a lease running from April 2021 to April 2022. Every lease requires either the landlord or tenant to give notice that they won’t renew it/want to terminate it. That notice is normally 90 days. Which would take us from April to January. It’s very likely that the decision to give the couple notice was actually made earlier, before Spare came out, as Charles would have to instruct his property management team, they’d have to draw up the notice in advance and then send it when the date that was 90 days before the anniversary of the lease arrived.

So it’s far more likely that it’s a coincidence.

Nah, it was punitive, it was decided as soon as Spare was published.

Your argument fails because they were both pro-hot chick roles on different sides of the camera, just not the same camera at once. She was certainly not going hungry or morally conflicted. They were both enjoying the spoils of it as a long term couple for years and years.

If you have an issue with sexual exploitation in the movie industry then this person is definitely not your champion whistleblower unless you are deluded.

I'm not the one who has a problem with it!

What I have a problem with are people demonising her for taking hot chick roles while completely ignoring the fact that it's men who create these roles.

But it's obvious that to some people, it's literally impossible for her to do anything right. She does hot chick roles, now she doesn't do hot chick roles. She earns money, she doesn't earn money. I'm not a huge fan of how they've conducted themselves since leaving the UK, but it's honestly a bloody joke watching people scrabble about attacking her for the career she had beforehand. She wasn't good at it, ok she was good at it but only because she's such a terrible person yadda yadda yadda. Fuck's sake.

Serenster · 02/03/2023 13:20

Far more likelihood of Andrew living a quiet, not photographed life if he’s just pootling around the Windsor Estate, I imagine…

Serenster · 02/03/2023 13:21

Well, knowing how these things work in big organisations with property portfolios, I disagree. But even if it was, so what? Actions have consequences. Harry is a grown up, he should realise that.

EhLov · 02/03/2023 13:22

It's just a sensible recovery of an empty property, isn't it? They moved out. To America.

Also, didn't they take the piss out of the property anyway, saying it was tiny, scruffy etc? Or was that another one?

You can't really expect to slag off your own family and then them still keep you a spare house, can you.

Yes, like the time he went on a 'business trip' to Bahrain. Recently went on a briefing spree that he was ready to sue Virgina, assemble a war chest of lawyers because of the inheritance Mummy left him..very very quiet 😂

Agreed. He’s had his wings clipped significantly. Not sure what else could be done with him. He paid a woman off clearly at the Queen’s behest (and probably with her money.). He has not been convicted. He has no means of taking care of himself.

Harry decided to leave, wants to earn his own living, failed to discuss this with his family and Queen before announcing it. Has rubbished his family endlessly. He’s fine. He has millions. He’s not exactly out in the street.

The two things have nothing to do with one another.

VixenTodd · 02/03/2023 13:24

fact that it's men who create these roles

You are doing it again. She was married to one of those men (Trevor Engleson) and they both happily lived off income earned from his exploitation of women. She wasn't ever a victim here.

I'm not saying she's a victim! Or I am, but only of people who attack her for playing hot chicks when those were by far her best opportunity, and ignore the men who actually create those roles and have way more power over them (usually casting them too and we all know what happens there).

Honestly, I give up. You can't reason with people who are absolutely determined that if Meghan did it, it must be wrong and a total non comparison to anyone else who did exactly the same thing but didn't marry a prince at the end of it. This is the "Meghan touched her stomach and opened a car door, the bitch" level of discourse. What's the point?

Yeah, you kind of can, no?

I could have sworn Charles did, called his Mother distant and his Father overbearing. Don't recall him losing anything.

If she had talent, she would have demonstrated it in the role which were given to her but there is no evidence of it. She would also have got much further because she was brought up on set of a major soap and her husband was a big player in the Hollywood film industry so she was potentially set up for a stellar career which needed a mere sprinkling of talent to take-off.
I remember reading a testimony that one of the tensions in her marriage was based on the fact that Trevor never gave her his 'hot chick' roles because there were better options available as far as he was concerned.

purpledalmation · 02/03/2023 13:31

I'm sure the king will find a broom cupboard they can stay in if and when they visit. It'll look like a suite of luxurious rooms in a castle to you and me but I'm sure they'll find something to moan about it to Oprah 😂

@tatalan Distant and overbearing, is a long way from racist. Also a long way from accusing them of planting harmful stories about his drug taking and nazi uniform wearing parties. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What jobs have you done in your life and what is your job now?

Overall i'm glad this happened, Harry's delusion about that apology was getting on my nerves.

Btw I'm sorry to the fans of Meghan who hate to hear Trevor Engleson's name brought up at all because you want to believe that the greatest love story of all time began with a freedom loving young maiden aged 38 inexperienced in life. She never knew a thing about the wickedness and stuffiness of the royal world and was tricked by her younger, loaded Prince into a quick marriage but managed to find and fight all the dragons and transport them both back to her land of sun and freedom and gaudy mansions and Backgrid.

And I think Americans (the target audience of the couple now) can see the hypocrisy of a couple commenting on having a lease rescinded on a home they don't use when they already live in their real home, which cost millions of $. So the twitter echo chamber has no influence.

How is it hypocritical? the Sun said they were evicted and H&M confirmed they were asked to vacate Frogmore, what's the problem with that?!

Even the BBC reported it before H&M commented.

You should be yawning with boredom at such hoary old misogyny that blames an actress for the role that was probably written and directed by a man. Or just the lazy reductive nature of taking a sex scene entirely out of context.

I’m not particularly enamoured on H&M but this is really a non event. The scene was so tame, it was hardly soft porn. Actresses in gritty dramas will do far more explicit scenes. It really doesn’t sit well to criticise a woman, who was trying to break into acting in this way.

I am not sure when he did that, if he even did. It sounds incredibly tame and like a very normal complaint to have about one's parents. But no, he was not kicked out of the home he was living in at any time, to our knowledge. Neither were Harry and Meghan. They don't live in Frogmore.

Also, we have no idea what transpired between Charles and his mother. Because he didn't tell an Omid Scobie type every time he had hurt feelings to report.
