What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

In this instance it is
Don't be daft.

I think has not just sailed but has disappeared over the horizon for that to happen.

The Windsor Framework was agreed at the Fairmont Hotel, Windsor between Rishi Sunak and Ursula Von der Layen.
I thought that's why it was so called.
I suppose it could have been called The Fairmont Framework.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2023 17:42

When the work is completed, it would be sacrilege if it didn't go down to normal levels (whatever normal is)

It would indeed, Roussette, but I've got a tenner which says there's no chance whatsoever - though doubtless it'll be framed in glowing terms such as "rationalisation", "value for money", "careful stewardship" et al

Vermin · 01/03/2023 17:50

The Parker Bowles offspring being made beneficiaries of a trust settled by Charles is not surprising at all and probably a condition of the terms of her leaving her husband / entering a formal relationship/ then marrying Charles. It’s what happens in HNW divorces / remarriages. - the children of a prior marriage aren’t left in materially different circumstances as the rest (have seen it with mistresses too- agree to eg move house for convenience of the man of her children’s school fees are taken care of for eg).

Howsimplywonderful · 01/03/2023 17:51

@Puzzledandpissedoff

You also need to factor inflation in the U.K. which is currently 10% so you can’t expect costs to drop back to pre renovation levels, but building costs are also through the roof at the moment

Howsimplywonderful · 01/03/2023 17:52

60,000 per year to Camilla’s children is hardly a fortune, MM spent more than that on one dress

Yes, that tends to be the way international (or national) agreements get their names. The Maastricht Treaty, the Treaty of Paris, the Rio Accords, the Edinburgh Reforms…

That's just the interest on the money. Not the capital

What that has to do with the price of a dress I do not know.

Bought with her hard-earned dollars - there's a big difference. Besides which, why should adults earning their own crust get a free 60k ? If Charles' has money to throw around, then give up the sovereign grant. That would spike a lot of our republican guns.

Exactly, @Serenster - I'm surprised some people don't understand that common fact!

I totally understand it. However, my point is Charles having tea with Ursula vdl at windsor castle would make me think... hmmm.... he's agreeing with this deal then. Hardly apolitical but he can't resist can he

Can't imagine the Queen doing that at such a delicate stage of negotiations

Where on earth do you think the Queen held audiences, then? I’ll tell you - it was either at Windsor, Buckingham Palace or Holyroodhouse. That ‘swhere she worked.

Buckingham Palace is currently being refurbished. Charles sometimes uses Clarence House for events, but has been conducting the vast majority of his audiences (new ambassadors, investitures, state visits etc) at Windsor. He’s the Head of State - visitors come to where he is, not vice versa.

Maireas · 01/03/2023 18:08

No, @Roussette , nothing beyond the fact that it's an appropriate venue. As pp have said, agreements are usually named this way, and of course Windsor was settled by the Normans, a good 850 years before the Saxe Coburg Gothas decided to adopt it!

Her 59k engagement dress?

Wasn't that paid for by Charles?

HMQ shook hands with Martin McGuiness during NI negotiations.

She entertained various foreign leaders when asked to by the Govt.

Ceauscescu to name one. This is no different.

Roussette · 01/03/2023 18:17

I am not the only one thinking that Charles should not have been meeting Uvdl at this stage of negotiations.

Maireas · 01/03/2023 18:19

True, @MrsFinkelstein and I recall HM the late Queen also met with Idi Amin. More recently Trump.
They meet with all manner of officials and leaders as part of the job.

Serenster · 01/03/2023 18:20

And it’s perfectly fine to think that.

It’s when you continually insist that other people must think that too, despite the fact they know very well the position the Head of State occupies in a constitutional monarchy, you start to come across as wilfully ignorant.

I'm not insisting anyone thinks anything, that's weird.

I am expressing an opinion. As are others. Thanks for saying that is fine lol but sorry you have to be rude.

Obviously the govt wanted him to so he's just doing what's expected of him. Isn't that his role?

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 01/03/2023 18:23

I didn’t think they wanted to come back to the Uk at all? To have a house so they can stay for a week of the year is ridiculous. They slagged Frogmore off too.

With so many homeless people in this country. Pretty tone deaf those two.

Not sure how I feel about Andrew moving in though, if true?

They never slagged Frogmore off, Nott Cott they said people would be surprised by how small it was.

I reckon H&M had to agree to this as they know what Charles didn't reveal that he paid the 2.4 million bill back to revenue for the renovation costs.

This makes sense. If M&H had paid that themselves they'd be speaking out about the injustice of it.

NOW charles can put Andrew in a smaller house that has just been done up so there will be no renovations costs in the near futrue. and W&K can move in to a much bigger house that we 'know' Andrew had to move out of because he couldn't afford the upkeep. meaning w&k can spend a lot on this house and the public ''knows'' it needed it.

Perfect. Played a blinder Charles.

Yes I am seeing rumours that Harry had told Charles he would not be attending the Coronation and did so privately unlike Charles communications to Harry.
And that this is Charles punishing Harry.
Charles always seems a very petty man.

The story of then being asked to leave Frogmore only broke today, and it's sourced to "friends of the Sussexes"

So I don't think they're exactly keeping things private
