Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

It’s not decapitation being shown.

The logic is that if you laugh at H&M being called whiny and annoying on a cartoon show, you must then similarly feel completely tortured by anything negative about W&K.

That is exactly what happened.

Also the logic is that you can post anything about H&M, just not about other royals even if they were all denigrated by the same show.

Not everyone works that way and it’s pretty revolting to post those obscene cartoons regardless of who it’s about.

AliceOlive · 17/02/2023 12:37

This discusses the hinged heads and includes a link to an interview with Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Pretty damn funny.

movies.stackexchange.com/questions/17896/why-do-canadians-have-hinged-heads

One exchange

Taison: Ghislain Deslierres asks, I want to know why all the Canadians in South Park have such weird heads because I'm a Canadian and I'm sure that a lot of Canadian South Park fans would also want to know why we must have those faces? So, what's the deal with the flapping heads and beady eyes?
Trey. Go look in the mirror.

Now if someone wants to take offense with H&M being depicted as Canadian, we can discuss that.

Coxspurplepippin · 17/02/2023 12:38

Having seen the programme and seeing no decapitation wondered what I'd missed but if it is the scene where Harry tips Meghan's head back to check what's inside that explains it. It's not a 'decapitation' for heaven's sake.

Agreed.

Suspect that many of the people critical of H&M don't care at all about W&K.

MeinKraft · 17/02/2023 12:42

Crikey first it's rimming on AIBU and now pegging in the RF board. Every days an education!

Hahaha they didn't honestly think that shows decapitation surely?! He's tipping back her head to look inside 😂

wordler · 17/02/2023 12:43

I think if you are a fan of South Park humour you find it funny no matter who is being lampooned.

if you’re not a fan of South Park humour - um, don’t watch!

notanotheroneagain · 17/02/2023 12:43

AliceOlive · 17/02/2023 12:33

That's what I thought was being misconstrued but I wasn't sure.

This sounds quite like the excuses that were made for Jeremy Clarkson.

Seen South Park years, ago. Not my kind of humour (mostly due to the violence and general vulgarness about real people). Surprised that all the people who are usually easily offended on here suddenly feel fine and have such a laugh and blasé attitude suddenly. You lot get offended by the most benign things (someone dabbing a lip gloss on their finger? ) yet you are here howling at South Park, and suddenly, decapitation is not serious?

Then you are going to try and convince us that you don't hate H&M.

wordler · 17/02/2023 12:44

Again - it’s not showing a decapitation.

jeffgoldblum · 17/02/2023 12:45

could not repost the HMQE South Park because it was so violent. All from the same cartoon show.

Why would someone wish to post something so disgusting on the royal family section?

How does posting a cartoon of the late queen, shooting herself in the head , remotely defend Meghan and Harry ?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 17/02/2023 12:45

yet you are here howling at South Park, and suddenly, decapitation is not serious?

I think you need to Google the word decapitation because you don't seem to understand what it is. If you did, you'd know it's not tipping someone's head back to look in their mouth

SirChenjins · 17/02/2023 12:46

It's not a decapitation.

It doesn't matter how much you want it to be so, it isn't.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 17/02/2023 12:46

Where is the decapitation?

Oh, it's been turned into a mouth now?

So what was empty? She did not eat anything? What's the joke again ?

Serenster · 17/02/2023 12:48

For the benefit of those people who don’t watch South Park, it is a long-running US cartoon show (but most definitely aimed at adults) which covers the activities of primary school children in the town of South Park in Colorado. It is famed for both its profanity and dark humour, often sexual (the very first episode was titled “Kenny gets an Anal Probe”!), and its satire of various people and topics.

The Meghan and Harry episode, heavily based as it is on their recent activities and the publication of Spare, is clearly satirising them. South Park has famously done similar episodes in relation to Tom Cruise and Scientology (he hides in a closet and refuses to come out 🤣) and other celebrities.

The “Prince William rips Kate’s arm off at the altar and sticks it up his backside” excerpt that keeps being posted however is clearly just an example of the show’s pretty normal use of silly violence and sexual humour for shock value. It’s clearly not satire, as there was in 2011 absolutely no context for that act (as there is now due to Sussex fans’ love of pushing related hashtags on twitter - which actually makes me ponder if the South Park episode maybe wasn’t a catalyst for that rumour? It’s a curious coincidence…). And I think most celebrities have been the target of similar scenes in the show’s 15 year-plus run. If this episode gets high ratings, I would bet my bottom dollar they’ll feature the royal family again around the time of the coronation.

(I do from time to time watch South Park, and have for many years. It is sometimes very funny. I think that its creator’s best works were however The Book of Mormon and Team America: World Police, which my husband and I still quote to each other all the time 🤣 ).

I agree. It's silly and childish to assume that just because you don't like one couple, it means you must love the other.

And it's not like they're 'competing' in the same field, is it? William and Kate are a future King and Queen. Noone is quite sure what Harry and Meghan are or aim to be, other than 'not William and Kate'.

I think they can be incredibly funny and then also really cross lines at times. I haven't watched it much in 20 years. I appreciate that they make fun of everyone. But I don't like sexual / crude things aimed at anyone.

I think H&M got off easy from the short clip I watched and I am glad for that. There are plenty of pretty ugly rumors they could have dredged up if they went down the same path they did in that now deleted screenshot. I would not be laughing about that.

Umm the mouth bit would be where the lips are, you know, as shown in the cartoon? Is there something wrong with you?
