Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

Thought it was a bit sailing too close to the wind to be funny. Not sure how they will view being referred to as The Prince & his wife?

Any publicity is good publicity, so maybe H&M do approve…. but I’d think not as it doesn’t portray them as comical, or silly, but just that bit too accurately.

Honestly, the Supporters are so daft. Always the Whataboutery. The old PW South Park is the new, “But Andrew……”

PA is cancelled and PW is rather dull: H&M on the other hand are a rolling entertainment show.

Publicity is easy to get. They, or at least Harry, have had lots of it over the past several weeks. Credibility is a much scarcer phenomenon, however. When you are attempting to establish yourself as serious 'humanitarians' and documentary producers, being literally a running joke is not good at all. Especially when you have no significant achievements to balance it all out.

@AliceOlive Benjamin Butterworth once self identified as black in order to take a people of colour delegate space at an NUS conference. His claim was based on his mum's romantic relationship, not his own racial heritage. He's a social justice warrior who is really not very good at what he does, and provides quite a lot of comedic moments on UK media platforms. However, he's pretty harmless, and I think his heart is in the right place; and I admire the fact that he will actually take part in a debate and listen to another POV, rather than scuttle away to a "safe space" from which to whinge about "haters". He would definitely stand up for Sasha as a working class woman who didn't ask to be involved in this circus.

AliceOlive · 18/02/2023 12:01

@Ridemeginger Got it. Thank you!

Ridemeginger · 18/02/2023 12:05

Thanks to the pp who let me know when I could catch the episode, I did get to see it all last night. I think I did all my belly laughing watching the clips that had been previewed on youtube etc. I watched with a more sober attitude, and I felt really sad at the end of it. "Branding" is the sort of shit that is fed to children today, define yourself and act accordingly, rather than just evolve and grow as a person. There's even a bloody Girl Guiding badge about creating your own brand - aimed at 10-14 year olds. And elevating victimhood as a badge of honour and social status is why we have so many children with mental health issues today. They are being told to elevate the worst things about their lives, rather than appreciate all they have done and can do.

I was actually really sad when The Prince walked away from The Wife at the end. It's not a bit of life imitating art I would wish on anyone.

KrasiTime · 18/02/2023 12:07

I forgot to add that I found it quite an uncomfortable watch.

karamazing · 18/02/2023 12:23

Blue penis aside, it was a highly intelligent script. It is a clear indication of the fatigue and disbelief people feel towards the "real us" on that side of the Atlantic.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 18/02/2023 12:43

There was also a dig at people being overinvested in H and M which was apt too. The 'age of the influencer' is what's really being targeted. H and M are just a good high profile example. I thought the blue penis part was funny. Maybe I'm just immature 😂

Ridemeginger · 18/02/2023 12:45

The blue penis at the window had echoes of Harry juggling outside the window to attract attention during the Netflix filming. I have to admit, that had me in stitches. But, as you say, @karamazing , incredibly intelligent writing, and I think an important piece of social commentary and a warning about what crap we are feeding to our kids, as well as mere observational humour on the antics of H&M. I thought the Prince and his drum kit was an inspired metaphor for Harry banging his own drum, first in a way that is annoying, eventually in a way that might be for something good.

I couldn't agree more. It was interesting that when he walked out at the end, he never closed the door behind him and she was the one standing firm which implied that he was still tethered and would run back into materialist-mommy's arms again having so little substance as a person who has shed his lifelong identity/cover of being a senior royal.

‘If older people view their lives with disappointment and regret, then despair will win, thus fuelling bitterness. In contrast, older people who recognise they did the best they could and see their lives with acceptance and a sense of meaning avoid bitterness and get to enjoy feelings of wisdom instead.’ (BBC Science Focus)

Seems like there are a lot of disappointed people on this thread. More acceptance would prevent the compulsion to find means to derive pleasure from delusional thoughts that you’re doing better than a younger and more accomplished couple than yourself.

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 13:15

What makes you think posters on here are all older that Meghan and Harry?
They are both middle aged , not a young couple.
The law of averages dictates that some may be younger , some maybe the same age , some maybe older .
Definitely not all older !

Maybe in some cases, but people can find them annoying and hypocritical without it having any deeper meaning.

As it goes I work with phenomenal people- intelligent, caring, interesting, talented people who have forged a career helping others (despite the crap pay and conditions); without blowing my own trumpet I find my job enjoyable and rewarding, have a beautiful home and family and yet find them irritating. I'm not bitter, I genuinely wish them well and hope they find the peace they evidently need to forge the path in life they want that doesn't include whinging, moaning and making money from leveraging the interest in his family (who he evidently hates). But from being around amazing people I don't find their grifting and lies overly inspirational.

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 13:16

I'm also sure some posters will also be more accomplished than a prince with no real talent and and actress !

Bippetyboppityboob · 18/02/2023 13:17

I'm also younger than them both too.

karamazing · 18/02/2023 13:18

Well, first time poster 🤔
I am both younger and more "accomplished" and I have never had to use my sexuality to get noticed. 😆

Unless you really want to! 😉

"actress" is generous. I count one car BJ, one BBQ directed at men only, some romping in the filing cabinet. We don't really get onto proper acting roles.

I am so glad that she never stuck around long enough to be made patron of the NT. That would have been so insulting to talented people.

The 'first time poster' reminds me of at least one previous poster with an extremely similar and comically pompous style of writing, as well as a rather odd obsession with the imagined ages of people here.

Even if everyone here were decades older than this middle aged pair of reality show 'star's, why is it in any way relevant?

Sayitagainmyl · 18/02/2023 13:25

As I said, delusional thoughts. If only some could see the comedy in their own lives.

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 13:26

@IcedPurple , I believe it's so they can push the " old , bitter , unattractive, jealous woman " narrative!
Same reason they keep referring to a couple, one in her forties and one almost there , as being a young couple!

karamazing · 18/02/2023 13:27

My DS was telling me about new technology which makes it possible to recycle farts.
You're too deep (crosses arms and taps shoulders).

Probably.

I've noticed quite a bit of misogyny from some of the Harkles 'defenders'. I guess it's not surprising considering they uncritically support a man who mocked a disabled woman for not being 'hot'.

Are they still pushing the line that Harry is some sort of catch? Seriously?

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 13:28
