William being rude during public visit

William visited an Ipswich hospital. A staff member had made cakes for his visit and decorated them with union jacks.
William then took part in a video call with some children, including the sin if the woman who made the cakes, William said to the young boy: ‘Your mother’s feeding me her cakes.’ He then held up a cupcake to the camera, and said: ‘They’re not very good!’ The children then burst into laughter as the prince adds: ‘I’ve told her she wouldn’t win Bake Off.’

I can understand the children laughing, but this is just so rude. The NHS staff member made cakes with her own money for his visit and all he can do is insult them.

William Mountbatten Windsor is too stupid to know it was rude.

Been told to engage with the youth no doubt as no one under 40 wants much do with them
Leave genuine connection with people to Harry , William. You suck at it

I thought you were being serious at first until you suggested Harry is good with people 😂😂😂

Alltheprettyseahorses · 16/02/2023 07:48

It was extremely rude of him. I really don't understand why people are defending him, probably deference to betters or something. It can be okay if someone close to you teases you but a total stranger who will have you looking like a twit in the news? Not on at all.

steff13 · 16/02/2023 00:15

I need more information on cake culture.

Me too.

ferneytorro · 16/02/2023 07:55

well you seem to know so why can’t other people?

Novella4 · 16/02/2023 07:56

Exactly right

The attempts at defending him are saying ' in my family' 'in my office' ie you KNOW them

This was totally different . I'm not so concerned about the woman but her son having his mother laughed at in front of his peers - totally unnecessary and it only happened because William us thick and unfunny and lacks any self awareness

Novella4 · 16/02/2023 07:57

I meant @Alltheprettyseahorses was right

Novella4 · 16/02/2023 08:00

And as for looking like Diana? Jesus
These days he looks like the runner up in a mr burns lookalike competition

What?
It's a joke!

You have no sense of humour !

YouAndMeVsTheWorld · 15/02/2023 22:59

Jokes made at other people’s expense aren’t funny, especially when they punch down

This

I wonder if the woman thought it was a joke to have someone visiting saying her home baked cakes tasted awful. Jokes are supposed to be funny.

She seemed to, laughing, very positive in the interview I saw. Seemed really happy that he'd chatted to her son. I thought it was a really nice piece, he was relaxed and happy and the kids seemed to enjoy it.

pleasehelpwi3 · 16/02/2023 08:05

Well William is a sponger.....

Applesonthelawn · 16/02/2023 08:05

Context is everything. I'd be astonished if he was ever rude about cakes.

Well William is a sponger.....

A Victorian one ? 🤔

I heard that after he said her cakes were crap, he pushed her into a dog's bowl and broke her necklace.

I heard the same. So it must be true...

Justalittlebitduckling · 16/02/2023 08:12

Maybe he was having a bad day. They’re not
robots.

00100001 · 16/02/2023 08:15

The kids were nervous and about confused hence the nervous laughter.

Prince William comes across as a bit like he hasn't quite realised he's a 40 year old man, not a fellow 18yo trying to be cool.

It's all a bit bizarre tbh

Killingmytime · 16/02/2023 08:16

Ffs im Not a royal fan but even I can see a joke.
are you quite ok? It’s got to be quite exhausting finding fault/insult in everything.
or is this something to try to knock William and Kate at?

sydneysunset · 16/02/2023 08:21

Laughable thread.

My money's on OP being another paid shill from the Montecito pair's budget PR department.

1/10

Just when I thought mumsnet couldn’t get anymore bizarre, a thread like this appears! The video, is trending on TikTok, the woman and her son, appeared on ITV news last night. I suspect if they thought it was intentionally rude they wouldn’t have appeared on the news…in public promoting the video!!!

no……I’ll get my coat!!

The lovely NHS lady should open a cake business now after all the publicity.

It would be a huge success!! 😄

Novella4 · 16/02/2023 08:30

@sydneysunset
Funny how any criticism of the 'royals' is put down to paid shills.

It usually comes up when they can't produce a coherent answer to anti monarchy points .
That and ' get off mum st ' ' get a hobby'

Do you know how the 'royals' social media works?
They are the ones with money to buy followers and plant PR

pornyshroudofturin · 16/02/2023 08:37

To be fair, in my experience if you want to make 8 year old boys laugh, it’s best to just shout “fart”. Bet William wishes he’d done that instead now.

HisRoyalWhineness · 16/02/2023 08:38

Are you one of these people that complains the royals are soulless, personality-less droids that do nothing for their public image and then, when they connect and have a sense of humour and a nice laugh, it's not good enough for you either. Get over

Novella4 · 16/02/2023 08:39

He didn't 'connect'

He never does

It's all false

GetUps · 16/02/2023 08:40

Did he taste the cake?. If so I'm impressed at the levels he went to not to be rude.

I hosted a meeting in school last week. Senior people from other local schools. Children had made cake for it and the reaction of most of the people there was shocking. The very idea that they might eat cake made by our children!

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 16/02/2023 08:41

It was William so of course everyone is going to say it was a joke. They'd be wailing and gnashing their teeth if it was Harry or Meghan who'd made the same comment though!

PizzaPastaWine · 16/02/2023 08:48

What relevance does it have that the baker is employed by the NHS? Are we at the point that we cannot provide any criticism or, god forbid a joke?
