William being rude during public visit

William visited an Ipswich hospital. A staff member had made cakes for his visit and decorated them with union jacks.
William then took part in a video call with some children, including the sin if the woman who made the cakes, William said to the young boy: ‘Your mother’s feeding me her cakes.’ He then held up a cupcake to the camera, and said: ‘They’re not very good!’ The children then burst into laughter as the prince adds: ‘I’ve told her she wouldn’t win Bake Off.’

I can understand the children laughing, but this is just so rude. The NHS staff member made cakes with her own money for his visit and all he can do is insult them.

I am working class. My mum would never make cakes again for my dad if he made this "joke".

Bit sexist innit.

Kinneddar · 16/02/2023 14:26

William has taken on Philips mantle of making offensive jokes

The person who he made the cakes took the comment in the spirit it was intended yet total strangers online are offended on her behalf 🙄

Get a life OP - if that’s the best you can do to denigrate big Willy

William's attempt at jokes always punch down, this was no different and very cringe inducing. I recall him making another joke about palace security shaking down a food delivery driver during some mental health podcast.

Plitvice · 17/02/2023 09:55

Still. I'd rather be the brother who makes the bad jokes than the brother who is the bad joke.

sydneysunset · 17/02/2023 10:27

@Plitvice very true!

I had forgotten that.
And calling a lad with ginger hair Ed Sheeran.

@Plitvice absolutely

adrianmolesmole · 17/02/2023 14:37

I do find the ginger hair comment very odd. It smacks of a schoolboy bullying mentality that W should have grown out of by now, he's 40 years old FFS, and in a high level position in society. And let's not forget his brother is ginger too.

That poor kid has probably already heard lots of comments in school and now it'll be even worse for him.

Who has turned Chaz down for his Coronation gig as has anybody with street cred. Pyramid Stage Glastonbury - yes please - Chaz and Cam rocking it with Cliff Richard and Brian May - sorry but I will be busy on the internet that night...

Diana's brother has binned the invitation.

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:11

Huh? He said a few days ago he didn’t expect an invitation.

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:12

In fact, has anyone gotten an invitation?

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:15

He’s a good guy.

“Though fans of the late princess may expect Spencer to feel bitter over King Charles' upcoming big day—the monarch and his ex-wife had a tumultuous divorce that played out in the press before her death in Aug. 1997—the Earl admitted that he doesn't spend too much time thinking about royal life.

"Obviously, I think of Diana every day, in a different context," he noted. "Actually, the whole royal thing, I don't find it as interesting as a lot of people, you know? I just get on with my life."

In regard to his title, the uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry said, "I look after what I have to look after at the estate...People obviously assume that I care a lot about that side of things, but it's just a side part of my life."

I'm filling in the dots there, I'm sure he could have gone had he wanted to. But I imagine seeing your dead sister's enemy literally lording it can't be easy. Lest we forget.

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:20

Seems quite grasping, perhaps you’re overlaying your own emotions on the Earl?

He didn’t sound even remotely like that at all. He does not seem like a bitter man and he attended the Queens funeral. There’s no reason for him to attend the coronation of his ex brother-in-law but that doesn’t mean he hates him and considers him an enemy.

All these years on and it's no real wonder why Harry’s jumped ship.

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:23

He sounded like a healthy person with fulfilling life. The type that evolves and move on from the past.

AliceOlive · 28/02/2023 18:35

@vera99 Harry didn’t jump ship. He and Meghan unilaterally announced they were carving out a new role and going to split their time between UK and US.

The announcement is still available on their website.
sussexroyal.com/about/

When that didn’t pan out as they’d hoped, they began throwing a colossal, years long, multi-platform “temper tantrum for hire”.

He indicated in a recent interview that he’d stop if they give him a role over the Commonwealth countries. Or money. And a public apology.
