William being rude during public visit

William visited an Ipswich hospital. A staff member had made cakes for his visit and decorated them with union jacks.
William then took part in a video call with some children, including the sin if the woman who made the cakes, William said to the young boy: ‘Your mother’s feeding me her cakes.’ He then held up a cupcake to the camera, and said: ‘They’re not very good!’ The children then burst into laughter as the prince adds: ‘I’ve told her she wouldn’t win Bake Off.’

I can understand the children laughing, but this is just so rude. The NHS staff member made cakes with her own money for his visit and all he can do is insult them.

The kids laughed way less when he said about the cakes not being very good than they laughed beforehand. You are assuming the kids found it funny. And the woman did not laugh or indicate she found it funny. Instead she said right we're going to go.

A joke that was flat and not very funny from the beginning. I find cake culture annoying, frustrating and difficult to navigate. I haven't followed this story though.

I need more information on cake culture.

Imagine if Harry or Megan said it!

AmyDudley · 16/02/2023 00:16

I heard that after he said her cakes were crap, he pushed her into a dog's bowl and broke her necklace.

Because it was slightly funny not ROFL funny. Probs wanted to go to get back to work or I don’t know the prince of wales is on a timetable and can’t spend all day FaceTiming teens. But you go on with your nuts theory OP, clearly that’s the most sensible answer than those provided by people who seem to have a better understanding of how human interactions work.

William also told a lad with ginger hair that he looked like Ed Sheeran.

How do you know what the woman who baked the cakes thought? She can hardly complain and chuck him out. She has no choice but to smile at work and say nothing.

Exactly, you don't know either. The clip I saw everyone was laughing including the woman who baked the cakes. You really need to get a life and stop being so invested in what other people MIGHT be feeling. ......🙄

William has really got your goat tonight hasn't he OP?

The hysterical joke was at another persons expense.

I have perfectly good sense of humour

I think making people feel small is awful, unkind and shows a lack of humanity and intellect.

There is actual inequality in this relationship, before he starts starts being a vile bully (as you found the previous phrase so off putting)

or are there only some sorts of inequality that I can be concerned about and I have to get approval from you?

What's wrong with that? Ed Sheeran is hardly the elephant man, I wouldn't say it's an insult to be compared to him.

Yanbu I’m glad I’m not the only one who read this and thought it was incredibly rude! I couldn’t believe it and thought what a complete arse he was.

The cakes looked lovely and she’d gone to the trouble of creating lovely emblems on them. I’d be absolutely mortified if I were her but of course she’d smile. I notice someone she works with tweeted how great they were.

He just comes across as a total prick.

Do you think she is still in tears? Wise up. They were probably told he had to go. Do you think he gave them the fingers and said f the nhs on the way out too?

vera99 · 16/02/2023 00:24

She should of said "my cakes might not be to your entitled, privileged, tax payer funded taste,so sorry about that but at least my family aren't sheltering a perverted, sex-trafficking nonce, Oh and while you are here,“Prince William, did you really shove Harry to the floor hard enough to break the dog’s bowl?” Here at the Ambulance Station we deal with some of the outcomes of domestic violence on a daily basis.

And when his face fell said "just joking...."

You do understand that this woman and William had a chat before the phone call. And most likely she has said I’ve made these cakes but tbh they aren’t v good lol or would you mind FaceTiming my son as he is always saying my cakes are crap. You know the things normal humans do. Do you honestly think that after a lifetime of being trained to be ultra polite in public William has just said sod it love your cakes are stinking? You don’t live in the real world if so. Those of us who deal with actual inequality every day find your attempts at tub thumping on this truly laughable.

Oh and I’m pretty sure if H&M were given those cakes they’d have made a real fuss of the lady and gone on about how fabulous the cakes were and made her feel appreciated!

Look how Meghan connected with the Grenfell kitchen ladies. She would never have treated poor cake lady like Wills did.

Ziggyzagg · 16/02/2023 00:33

@Eyerollcentral yes I bet the lady was self depreciating about her cakes and that’s where wills should have jumped at the opportunity to say don’t be daft they are fabulous, not reverted to a 12 year old boy having bants at someone else’s expense! Someone who has put a lot of time and effort into baking for him!

SerafinasGoose · 16/02/2023 00:34

The Windsors are spectacularly bad at humour because all their lives they've had people rolling in the aisles at the slightest embarrassing, weak quip they make.

They're also stilted stuffed shirts who, despite their expensive education, are not very bright or articulate.

Gawd bless 'em, eh?

spuddel · 16/02/2023 00:36

Everyone must be offended by everything. And it's pathetic. I say that as a non-royalist.

See the post above w William and the lady smiling happily together. Everyone isn’t as socially stunted as you and others on this thread appear to be.

My father (diplomat) used to have to work with his father back in the 80s on foreign tours. Let's just say, it looks like the stupidity has been inherited.
