William being rude during public visit

William visited an Ipswich hospital. A staff member had made cakes for his visit and decorated them with union jacks.
William then took part in a video call with some children, including the sin if the woman who made the cakes, William said to the young boy: ‘Your mother’s feeding me her cakes.’ He then held up a cupcake to the camera, and said: ‘They’re not very good!’ The children then burst into laughter as the prince adds: ‘I’ve told her she wouldn’t win Bake Off.’

I can understand the children laughing, but this is just so rude. The NHS staff member made cakes with her own money for his visit and all he can do is insult them.

Oh and I’m pretty sure if H&M were given those cakes they’d have made a real fuss of the lady and gone on about how fabulous the cakes were and made her feel appreciated!

Look how Meghan connected with the Grenfell kitchen ladies. She would never have treated poor cake lady like Wills did.

This is so ridic I honestly don’t know what to say.

RagamuffinCat · 16/02/2023 00:47

They were very clearly beautifully made cakes. I think he probably felt safe to joke about them being bad because it was quite apparent they were anything but.

vera99 · 16/02/2023 00:49

The (REAL) Queen would have said, “that’s very kind of you” or something along those lines. she was impeccably polite. Charles for all his faults is usually diplomatic. William is just an overgrown schoolyard bully, and not terribly bright.

William was conditioned to narcissism by the institution, but he was also aggressive and physically violent from an early age – before the head injury, talk about Broken Britain.

Threemangoes · 16/02/2023 00:58

The world is becoming a sad place because of people like you. I want to see more of this funny side from William.

Ziggyzagg · 16/02/2023 00:58

@Eyerollcentral what did you think she was going to do in the photo, pull an angry face? I think the only socially stunted person here is you. Have you ever heard of empathy? You’ve clearly no idea how normal people think and behave. You’re not in the RF are you?!

Totally anti monarchy and a v empathetic person. You can usually spot a fake smile, this lady’s smile seems genuine to me, do you not agree?

Tinkerbyebye · 16/02/2023 01:07

Oh get away, it was a joke

Cornchip · 16/02/2023 01:08

Not a fan of the Royals after the whole Andrew situation but they can’t do right for doing wrong.

If they visit locations and act prim and proper then people say they’re stuck up and have alienated themselves from the public.

If they go in and try to have a bit of banter and try and be more relatable then they’re “rude” and “offensive”.

OP, do you always bend yourself out of shape to be offended on someone else’s behalf? The only person who is allowed to be offended by this is the lady who baked the cakes. Not you. You weren’t there, you didn’t bake the cakes, you weren’t privy to conversations had before this snippet and you weren’t there afterwards.

It doesn’t concern you.

Head injury?

The kids laughed way less when he said about the cakes not being very good than they laughed beforehand. You are assuming the kids found it funny. And the woman did not laugh or indicate she found it funny. Instead she said right we're going to go.

You can hear her laughing before she says , "Right, we're gonna go."

No she wouldn’t have. The Queen always had a sense of humour and there’s plenty of clips online of her being quite witty with those who she’s conversing with.

You’re making things up to suit your narrative.

"Hannah said: "A friend’s mum called him whilst he was visiting her at work and Prince William was on the other end of the line. We were all just so shocked and didn’t expect it, completely speechless.
"We were just laughing at everything he was saying as we didn’t know what to say.”"

0.24-0.26, you can hear the nurse chuckling down the phone. It's tinny/high pitched, so not the kids or William.

What’s this meant to prove op? Give us the alternate universe version pls

OutofEverything · 16/02/2023 01:18

The woman does not laugh. Right before William says her cakes are not very good, the woman says here look - and moves her cake towards the camera centrally, and withdraws it when William says they are not very good.

Zapruder himself would be proud that you’ve uncovered this damning film OP.

Ridemeginger · 16/02/2023 01:21

You must be wilfully deaf. After he says, "I told her she wouldn't win BakeOff," you can hear her chuckle.

Eyerollcentral · 16/02/2023 01:23

Yes she is at least selectively deaf, it’s clearly a light hearted moment for all…but to some on this thread it’s bullying and vile 🫠

OutofEverything · 16/02/2023 01:23

You can not. What you claim is her is a childs laugh.

The cake is in William's hand. It's William who moves his hand away.

No it's not. It's tinny. There's an obvious difference between the voices of the children and the voices coming down the line, which are tinny. You couldn't even identify that it's not her hand with the cake but William's. You are ridiculous.

I find it utterly incredible that some British people can find laughing at someone’s kind gesture and call them “not very good”, funny. In my culture it’s exceptionally rude. If someone gifts you a present you graciously accept it. This is a part of British culture that I will never enjoy and I’m glad not everyone shares the view it is funny. A relative once had a cup of tea at mine and said it was the worst they’d ever had. I turned around and said “well there’s the door, you can leave now”. I was called hormonal (pregnant). I’d react exactly the same way tomorrow when not pregnant. I have welcomed you into my home and gifted you something - throw it away discreetly if you do not enjoy it but don’t tell me it’s disgusting and laugh hysterically at your little “joke”. I don’t care it was William, it’s rude.

You sound like a fun person to be around.

I’d hate to be friends with anyone as stuffy. Luckily I’m not.

I’d rather save my offence for something that is worth being offended over.
