If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

They could do what they did for the jubilee - attend a serious ceremony and lie low for the fun bits. I don’t think many people would have a problem with that and there wouldn’t be much of any substance for the press to write about.

VivienneDelacroix · 06/02/2023 20:40

You "could bear them coming". 😆
I'm sure the King will hold this in mind.

It won't affect you whether they come or not, unless you are Catherine or Camilla! 😂

CathyorClaire · 06/02/2023 20:43

King Charles could ask what he likes but if he's unwise enough to ask for no booing it will undoubtedly provoke disobedient peasants to do their worst. Can't see the press kowtowing either.

I suspect it'll just be Harold blowing in for the minimum time possible and kept behind a convenient church pillar and the balcony curtain.

Samcro · 06/02/2023 20:47

So the op doesn’t want to see them. But starts a thread about them!!!

wordler · 06/02/2023 20:49

The public is fickle and cheeky though - there'll be a load of people if urged NOT to boo then will definitely go out of their way to do that.

It's a no win situation for Charles. If he invites them - he'll be criticised as weak by a section of people, and if they are subject to any less than preferential treatment they/their fans will moan about it anyway.

If he doesn't invite them, they/their fans will moan about it, and Charles doesn't get to have one of his sons share this moment he's waited his whole life for.

Either way the tabloids will get their pound of flesh - they don't lose no matter which way it goes.

wordler · 06/02/2023 20:50

*they meaning the tabloids don't lose.

Most people in the country don't want them to come. The booing last time was embarrassing. This time it would be deafening 🤣

And the point of your comment is...?

I don't want them coming and I don't want to see or hear any more as most people have reached saturation point with them.

Starting a thread to ask is there any way the press could not make them the centre of attention has nothing to do with my personal views.

I think it would be a bloody shame if he (they) don’t come to celebrate his dad’s Coronation.

It would also be rotten if that moment was spoiled by booing.

Hopefully those inclined to boo will just whinny and skelp H’s arse if he passes within reach.

It would lessen the tension.

ArcaneWireless · 06/02/2023 22:03

Don’t = didn’t.

Not sure what happened tyeee.

It is sad that the press would focus on them instead of the coronation. And that would definitely happen.

I am hopeful that the 48 hours Harry in and out story is based in fact. That would be a good compromise for Charles IMO. Harry could keep a very low profile in order to get fewer boos?

MissTrip82 · 06/02/2023 23:52

I think it would be quite hard to take the attention away from a coronation. In any event the highest risk of OTT coverage is from the daily mail and similar. You actually read very little about most of the royal family if you stick to better media sources.

Also would hope that people sufficiently into royalty to turn up to the coronation wouldn’t be so staggeringly rude as to boo one of the guests.

NoSquirrels · 06/02/2023 23:59

I mean - this, right? If you give a shit about the continuation of the monarchy, the royal family etc then surely you want the coronation to be all eyes on King Charles. So who will be booing?

But then I don’t recall any embarrassing booing from ‘last time’ so meh.

StClare101 · 07/02/2023 01:03

Hopefully Harry comes on his own and keeps a low profile. I’m sure the Waleses will keep him at a safe distance anyway.

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/02/2023 01:08

Harry will be invited but then unable to attend...

Whatever they do, some posters will miss them terribly if they don't come because they need to dissect Meghan's outfit, her face, whether she smirks or is deadpan, her curtsey, and how dare she even look at Kate/Sophie whoever, whether they hold hands blah blah blah.

At the funeral, they behaved impeccably but even that was criticised. Personally I hope they stay away from the toxicity, or as a PP said... Harry quietly comes in for a very short time.

As long as we know that whatever they do, it'll be wrong, we'll survive.

Hi Lizzie... yes, that's an option. He did come on his own to PP's funeral, I think Meghan had just had their little girl so understandable.

They kept their heads down at the Queen's funeral and there was still criticism. But if Harry came on his own and if the toxic media just let him be there in peace, it could be the best way. However, it will probably generate loads of articles whatever he does. They can't do right for doing wrong.

SirChenjins · 07/02/2023 08:43

I think the sensible thing would be for them all to agree the focus needs to be on the coronation, for Harry to attend quietly on his own and then for there to be no further books about his feels on the seating arrangements or the way Camilla looked at him.

Ohnonevermind · 07/02/2023 08:50

It would be nice if they all spoke and decided what’s best and made an official announcement well in advance, then the papers can’t print nonsense about them coming or not coming, and coming then not coming etc etc etc

Blip · 07/02/2023 08:54

If Charles invites them and they come, I'm pretty sure they will need to manage them out of any scenes with the public as they will be booed.

It will be best for the monarchy if they stay away, but KC seems both weak and desperate to me and will do almost anything to get his son back. Being real though, NOTHING will ever be enough for Harry to reunite with his dad other than acceding to his every request, something that a King cannot do.

I think Charles should abdicate as he doesn't have the strength or stomach for the job.

Perhaps he'll abdicate at the Coronation? That'll be novel ! I doubt it, given he's having a new golden carriage and two new thrones made especially for the occasion.
