If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

I agree the worst comments are on MN. Some comments have been terrible.
Twitter is very critical of William, Charles and Camilla.

Twitter is an echo chamber. It’s how the algorithms work. I would never rely on it as a source of information.

Why would Harry and Meghan even want to come? I don’t get it.

plumduck · 08/02/2023 07:30

I don't think the King asking everyone nicely to not boo will go down well.

Gilmorehill · 08/02/2023 07:31

I only see positive comments about W and K on Twitter and negative comments about H and M. That’s because Twitter is an echo chamber and not a good barometer. I honestly don’t know a single person in RL who has any time for H and M.

maranella · 08/02/2023 07:37

You can't tell people not to boo! People will boo if they want to, like they can throw eggs and heckle. And if H&M have the brass neck to turn up to the coronation after all the chaos and hurt they've caused I hope the public DO boo and heckle.

I know Charles really wants to invite them, but if he does I think they should decline. They won't, of course, because they can't resist the publicity and will want more ammunition for their next whine-filled publication.

ExistenceOptional · 08/02/2023 07:40

They will have proper security surely so Charles will not have eggs thrown at him.

Admittedly I’ve not had hundreds of conversations about them, but those I’ve had have been with people who felt like you - until the book. Now they may see them as flawed but have sympathy and understanding for them in a way they didn’t previously. They don’t feel negatively towards them. I only see those thoughts on here and some newspaper sites.

Im the opposite - the few conversations I've had at work or with friends their initially more positive or neutral position on H&M has become more negative since the reality TV show, and especially the book.

Just wondering. Where are the polls to be found. I’ve not seen a poll on Harry and Meghan. Sure they exist. But where?

This is a US poll from 3 weeks ago.

Thanks Mrs Finklestein for the link. I will have a look.

Genuinely asking, like who? It was my understanding they are persona non grata in all circles here and across the pond.

I think the Twitter support is paid for

No, it's the algorithm

If you like a post, or click it to read the comments, you'll get served up more of the same. So yes, if you interact with one type of post, then that's all you'll see. It's not a representative sample

I think those who value their privacy will want to avoid anything bar small talk with them. I don't think it's as far as persona non grata, just that some doors that would have been open will be gently closing

Or firmly slammed shut. They are a liability.

The schadenfreude on display by some posters at the potential bullying of a child being couched as concern is really distasteful.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/02/2023 10:42

Many thanks for that great information about the coaches, @Morestrangethings; it's especially good to hear it from someone actually in Australia

@Underminer I'm pretty sure "a shake up" of the coronation is something Charles was reputed to want, but of course when it came down to it he turned out to be just as keen on the pomp and luxury as ever

Quelle surprise Hmm

There is Charles the father, and Charles the King. I understand he wants harmony and reconciliation with his son, but he also has to follow protocol and the national mood. I don’t think people would welcome seeing H&M slap bang in the front row of Westminster Abbey with ne’er a handy pillar or candle in sight. Let alone grinning and waving on the balcony.

Most people in the country don't want them to come. The booing last time was embarrassing. This time it would be deafening 🤣

Don't they have you asked them all?

ancientgran · 08/02/2023 12:20

ArcaneWireless · 06/02/2023 22:00

I think it would be a bloody shame if he (they) don’t come to celebrate his dad’s Coronation.

It would also be rotten if that moment was spoiled by booing.

Hopefully those inclined to boo will just whinny and skelp H’s arse if he passes within reach.

It would lessen the tension.

That would be so hilarious. I hope he comes and we see lots of arse skelping.

MeghanAndTheSeals · 08/02/2023 13:39

If they do come, I can’t imagine much chat going on in the family, I’d definitely be keeping quiet!

Would be much better if they could sort things out, but I think both sides are going to find it too difficult to bend at all.

I’d welcome Uhtred Son of Uhtred to come in and bang their heads together.

wordler · 08/02/2023 14:02

Well Tom Cruise has got his invite apparently and is shutting down a weekend of mission impossible filming to attend!

You’d assume that family invites went out before American celebs!

I just saw that. Wonder who other A list celebs will be there? Cruise is ultra ultra ultra ultra A list.

Can't wait to see the tiaras 😍

MrsFinkelstein · 08/02/2023 15:44

I'm also still keen to find out which child is potentially going to be bullied.

It obviously can't be either of Harry & Meghan's children as they are far too young to be involved in any major public way during the Coronation.

Why would anyone bully them?

Maybe an older woman is going to smack Harry's bare backside. Now that would be humiliating at the Coronation. I wonder if it would happen at The Abbey or on the balcony.
