The "Where's Meghan" Question Has Been Definitively Answered ...

MrsMaxDeWinter · 30/01/2023 11:50

She's been busy!

I hope that those who expressed concern will be happy to know that she has been working with the Archewell team on their just released Impact Report.

Meghan and Harry are polarising figures but there is no doubt that they have galvanising power to get projects, both little and big, off the ground.

Harry, with William and Kate, was a co-founder of the Royal Foundation in 2011. They had a start-up fund of just under 5 million pounds, of which 1.3 million pounds was given away in grants.

10 yrs later, Harry and Meghan set up Archewell, with start up funds of 13 million dollars, and give away three million dollars in grants.

As with both foundations, the reserve is carried over.

The range of their projects is interesting, from working with the Vaccine Alliance to raise private sector contributions to distribute vaccines, endowing academic fellowships, working with partners in resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan, working with World Central Kitchens, to smaller projects like the Uvalde community playground and park and a really cute project to a small charity that gives free hair braiding to young black girls in Texas.

I am so pleased for them, their advisors and staff as this is a dream start for any start up. I have long been sceptical that they may have spread themselves too thinly, so I am glad to see they are now focusing on just three areas, as they find their groove.

It’s incredible… all they had was a dream, the drive, tens of millions of pounds, the allure of being associated with royalty and a huge publicity team. It really gives you hope.

Haha, this is one of the most spot on comments I have ever read on mumsnet.

Gosh, this is a very odd thread! Who are these people that have been asking 'Where's Megan?' I must have missed these threads but I'm glad that people will be happy to know that she's been busy....

There is an entire thread of speculation as to her whereabouts.

Here you go. www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4720899-where-is-meghan

“I shared the highlights to show the work they are actually doing, and linked the report, which is topical as it has just been released.”

yes, you did…. But WHY though??

Why are you hijacking a forum which is for people to support each other through the ups and downs of their domestic lives?

Why are you using us to showcase the exploits of pair of confused and confusing characters who are currently highly-focused on hair braiding in Texas?

Oh I am sorry. Am I in the wrong place? I did not post on the Relationships forum, but on The Royal Family.

Have the Meghan threads been disallowed because I am still seeing a lot of them, on a forum which is for people to support each other through the ups and down of her domestic lives? as you say.

How are the many other Meghan threads posted here related to the above?

Or do you just not want me to post anything positive she does?

I would like to see the financials because what they have achieved (in partnership) with 3 million is in the turning water to wine territory. They say the number are a snapshot of their impact. I’d like to see the individual numbers

I'm sorry but this is the Royal Family forum I along with others are very respectful and support others elsewhere and will continue to do so. Free speech and a robust discussion of the role and purpose of the Royal family is both necessary and long overdue with the death of the late Queen. There is no hijacking, that's your spin on robust debate.

Aldibag · 30/01/2023 13:27

I didn’t know I was in the promo seats though.

I thought I’d get some personal insights and general ‘tea’.

Not the official press release from the latest archewell intern, talking about a non-Royal convening a round table with only a teasing comb to save her.

Now that's funny and I love Aldi we are all in the right place. Bag or no bag !

@FanFckingTastic Some of the Royalists are obsessed with Meghan. Even if there is nothing they can jump on, they can't stop talking about her.

Exactly, not sure why people think it's OK to take the piss about it

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I think the techical term is "brigading" but unplanned and all the better for it.

TimeToFlyNow · 30/01/2023 13:35

Wrong quote, not sure why people seem to think it's OK to take the piss out of the hair braiding charity

Dreamstate · 30/01/2023 13:36

Well all those bashing there work and foundation, what you done to make a difference to someone's life?

Are you out there raising millions of pounds and then using it to help people? Are you out volunteering your time down a food bank or in your community?
Have you opened up your homes to help homeless people or offered your skills where relevant to help people less fortunate than you?

Its really disgusting that just because you might not like the people who started the foundation to actually bash the work being done by the foundation itself that goes to helping people who need it.

Sarcasm clearly doesn't come over well on MN.

'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.' Props to Lao Tzu for that one. The times I've seen it used, he should have copyrighted it.

Why do we have to have 'made a difference to someone's lives' before we're entitled to our opinions?

I'll turn it round. What are YOU doing? all or any of the above?

I am not the one here bashing the foundation or its work am I.

Its one thing to have an opinion on the people who set up the foundation. It's another to then start discrediting the work the foundation does to help people.

Shodan · 30/01/2023 13:46

Well all those bashing there work and foundation, what you done to make a difference to someone's life?

Oh come on. They are immensely wealthy and privileged. Too bloody right they should be using these attributes to do charitable works.

It's not as if they have to spend most of their time working to earn enough money to pay the rent/mortgage/electricity/gas/food bill etc etc.

Their 'start up' has been built on the foundations of a lot of money, their connections to the Royal family, and an enormous publicity team. Not exactly the same as Mrs Bloggs starting up a small business from home and grafting all hours to make a success of it.

Boulshired · 30/01/2023 13:49

But we don’t really know what the foundation does, or how much it costs other than mainly partnering other charities and using their figures.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/01/2023 13:50

No it isn't. We're perfectly entitled to have an opinion, favourable or unfavourable, about the work of anyone.

toomuchlaundry · 30/01/2023 13:51

Funny how some people on another thread are complaining about Zara and Mike Tindall benefiting from having Royal connection, but on this thread it is amazing what Harry and Meghan are doing by also using their Royal connection

GloomyDarkness · 30/01/2023 13:51

It’s incredible… all they had was a dream, the drive, tens of millions of pounds, the allure of being associated with royalty and a huge publicity team. It really gives you hope.

How true.

I wouldn't knock the hair braiding though - you tube keeps showing me a salon someone in US and they deal with really matted hair - sometime it's the type pf hair - sometime it's depression and self neglect. Last one I saw was a kid in a children's home - group home was paying and found them as they couldn't get the girl to go to school - took the long two days to get her untangles and a decent length and cut persevered but they also took the time to build the girl up a bit - made a fuss of her - she walked out much more confident.

It might not be the biggest thing out there but USA has many small charities - I know one that gives out second hand shoes which makes a shocking difference to some US kids who really are growing up in 3rd world poverty.

Nancydrawn · 30/01/2023 13:53

You know what? I'd be delighted if OP's post were right.

I think one can simultaneously think that the British press were/are racist; that Meghan is insincere; that Harry's book was appalling; and that they're doing good work with this foundation.

If what they want to do is spend the next decades in California, out of the press and quietly working with charities (whether that be convening meetings or playing charity polo), then have at it. I think that would be a worthy, purposeful, meaningful life and a good use of their skills. I don't particularly think that will happen, but honestly, I'd be delighted.

PS: don't make fun of the hairbraiding charity. It's actually wonderful and important work. Kids whose parents are struggling deserve to have dignity, and mocking it makes one look petty and small (and more than a little blinkered on the politics of American race, culture, and socio-economics).

BellasBench · 30/01/2023 13:53

This is quite a disturbing post. OP, why are you posting this?
Are you a super fan or on the payroll? I hope payroll as otherwise unhealthy over invested, this is very very strange. 😑
