The "Where's Meghan" Question Has Been Definitively Answered ...

MrsMaxDeWinter · 30/01/2023 11:50

She's been busy!

I hope that those who expressed concern will be happy to know that she has been working with the Archewell team on their just released Impact Report.

Meghan and Harry are polarising figures but there is no doubt that they have galvanising power to get projects, both little and big, off the ground.

Harry, with William and Kate, was a co-founder of the Royal Foundation in 2011. They had a start-up fund of just under 5 million pounds, of which 1.3 million pounds was given away in grants.

10 yrs later, Harry and Meghan set up Archewell, with start up funds of 13 million dollars, and give away three million dollars in grants.

As with both foundations, the reserve is carried over.

The range of their projects is interesting, from working with the Vaccine Alliance to raise private sector contributions to distribute vaccines, endowing academic fellowships, working with partners in resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan, working with World Central Kitchens, to smaller projects like the Uvalde community playground and park and a really cute project to a small charity that gives free hair braiding to young black girls in Texas.

I am so pleased for them, their advisors and staff as this is a dream start for any start up. I have long been sceptical that they may have spread themselves too thinly, so I am glad to see they are now focusing on just three areas, as they find their groove.

It’s so weird on here sometimes. I can’t believe someone’s started a thread pretending they are pr agents for William and Harry and posting about them like this then declaring them to be so pleased. Like they are their mum or something.

honestlh such random weird behaviour.

"Hair braiding charity? My, oh my, we really need that, don't we?"

There are issues that are very pertinent to people with Afro Carribean hair that if you had just taken a moment from your zeal to ridicule Meghan you might have looked into why this kind of thing might have been needed.

If the ‘cute’ hair braid story is not even vaguely relevant to the demographic of this forum, why are you repeatedly mentioning it?

Honestly, MrsHazdeWindsor, so strange!

Are you actually being serious? Do you genuinely belive that the "demographic" to whom the braiding story about are not on this forum?

MrsMaxDeWinter

she was 37 when she joined the RF , she appeared regularly in a tv show for 7 years , and was paid for that,
nothing extraordinary , just like millions of working woman the world over , Sophie had a job too,

its really not uncommon for women in their late thirties in other professions to make hundreds of thousands a year .

Ah Sophie. Sophie who was caught by a tabloid trying to leverage her position to get a contract with a dodgy "Sheik". And then of course there was her enterprising husband with his failed TV production company.

Interesting role model, but I guess that's what happens when the bar is set so low😂

And a perfect example of why the half in and half out model that the Sussexes wanted was never going to work.

The racism on Mumsnet never surprises me. It is fairly constant.

I mean I've stepped away for a bit because the racism was getting a bit much for me but then seeing this ridicule of hair braiding and not knowing why it might be a necessary thing............

Just wow

I agree @skullbabe . Most unpleasant.

Here is the loveliest picture and heartfelt tweet about the hair braiding.

Last one I promise - they seem very anodyne.

Are the royal family boards on mumsnet a good forum to participate in or should I do something else

The Royal Family boards on Mumsnet can be a place where people discuss topics related to the British monarchy. However, whether they are a good forum for you to participate in depends on your personal interests and the type of discussion you are looking for. If you are interested in discussing the Royal Family, current events, and news related to them, the Royal Family boards on Mumsnet may be a good option for you. However, if you are looking for a more diverse range of topics or a different type of discussion, you may prefer to participate in other online communities.

You'er right @vera99 - anodyne yet utterly terrifying

Just like how Meghan only got her tv appearances thanks to the help from others .

The bar isn’t really that high with Meghan either Mrs Max.

queenofarles · 31/01/2023 14:09

That’s a gorgeous photo roussette ,

I’m sure lots of young girls will benefit from the free services ,
Even small changes can leave great impact on children's overall confidence , so good on them,

but the pinned tweet on that account you linked made me 😂😂😂,

@MrsMaxDeWinter have been having a peruse of some of the projects the Archewell Foundation has funded/contributed to. Quite interested in Smart Works and the Female Unemployment Index - one to keep an eye on as I see the aim is to benchmark yearly.

Thanks so much for sharing this. Those little darlings are just so adorable!

If only for that, I am glad to have started this thread. Too cute. Love the transparent beads. Will steal the hairstyle for my little niece 🤗

@skullbabe I love Smart Works, and am a bit supporter of their work. It's great to see Meghan still engaged even after she left the UK. Smart Works and Grenfell, along with some of her other initiatives show that she understands the difference between empowering and donating. The later alleviates a temporary need, the former is about a sustainable impact.

And you are right about the racism on these threads, including on this one, but we should not to give in. Justine Roberts had this to say abut the Anti-Meghanitistas of Mumsnet:

"Mumsnet posters are so strongly anti-Meghan we’ve had to do what we did with Madeleine McCann and cobble it into one topic because it seems slightly deranged."

Deranged is the word😁

@skullbabe

No, I think you’ve missed my point.

OP was talking about the RF and how great they are. OP threw the demographic point in as a red herring. OP said the demographic who would be interested in the charity was not on MN, and that would therefore be the reason why we were incredulous the charity should be mentioned twice, artfully, in OP’s press release which was about the RF.

I was wondering (as you are): what demographic would / should be interested in the charity? And how could one possibly know that ‘that demographic’ isn’t on MN?

But no one was discussing the charity or the demographic of MN, at that point.

As the discussion progressed, the merits of the charity came to the fore - which was an altogether much more interesting read. I stayed for that, and I would have preferred the OP to shine attention on interesting causes, rather than the ‘amazing’ Royal Family donors (who really have no absolutely no idea of poverty - despite some of them claiming they ate at salad bars).

Having said that, the thread WAS RF, so I agree the OP was on topic when they wanted to write about how great the RF are. And this is MN, so the OP can have their opinion, and can write as much as they like in praise of the RF.

Getting her security to hand a homeless man a backpack while she waited in the car must have been really empowering for the homeless person 🤣

Roussette · 31/01/2023 15:26

Oh... well done ohnonevermind you've found something else to criticise her about. I see nothing wrong with teaching our children that there are those who are worse off than you, who struggle, who are homeless. It's what I did with my kids and they have carried that on with their volunteering.
Because of death threats, she could hardly wander around without security could she.... however, whatever she did would be wrong in your book. Best to ignore that pesky homeless person eh?

So Meghan isn’t safe to get out of the car but you think the Wales should be working a weekly shift at a food bank.

you are too funny
