Funding Freedom - Palace lies

babsanderson · 20/01/2023 13:25

Omid Scobie in Finding Freedom said that Meghan received security training, including on how to deal with being kidnapped. Omid Scobie says in a tweet below that a Palace Official confirmed this was true, But it was not.

In both the Mail court case and in Harrys book Spare, it was revealed Meghan was not provided with this security training.

The Palace straight out lied to Omid Scobie.

@OrcastralManoeuvresInTheDark And the Palace claiming Meghan has had security training including a staged kidnapping scenario with training on how to react somehow damages her security?
Nonsense.
And I note those claiming the Palace never talk about security. Also not true.

The Palace lied. The Palace frequently lie.

You do know there isn't really such a thing as 'the palace'?

Easy shorthand for all the 'meany poos' who've not been nice to poor Hawwy I guess.

TrashyPanda · 20/01/2023 14:38

The Palace frequently lie

so does Harry.

your point is?

babsanderson · 20/01/2023 14:39

@TrashyPanda The Palace no comment at times or are unavailable for comment. They do not comment on every story they are asked for comment on. But they do comment on some press stories. In this case they said the story was true. That is a lie.
And you are all ignoring this lie came out in the court case. Unless you think everyone is lying in court as well?

I swear William and Charles could go on TV and say we lie all the time about Harry and Meghan, and you would still all excuse them.

This made me laugh out loud, Meghan and Harry could go on tv and drown puppies live on camera and YOU would still excuse them.

clyspa · 20/01/2023 14:41

Don't care

babsanderson · 20/01/2023 14:42

I like truth that is all.

I reckon Scobie could go on TV and say “I made it all up” and some people would still excuse him.

I thought Scobie lied about his age in an interview...

I was intrigued by the relationship/balance between Scobie and co author Durand in FundingFreedom

I haven’t read that book but seeing his tweets that the OP screenshot, I immediately wondered about the relationship btw Scobie and Durand. As he referred to her as his co-author, without giving her name, which is bad etiquette amongst writers.

Errr - by using their eyes?

it’s a gatehouse, not a fairy door in an old oak tree.

in other words, it’s bleeding obvious.

you do know the actual purpose of a gatehouse, don’t you? It’s a very old security feature, to only open the gates for approved people.

Okay so the Palace lied to protect Harry around drugs accusation, you accept that.
Do you think the Palace tells other lies to journalists?

Nope, it was Harry who lied to the Palace.

he admits it in Spare.

do you accept that? Or are you going to argue that they should have known Harry would lie?

But you haven’t got a comment from ‘the Palace’ in this situation - you’ve got Scobie telling us that a ‘palace source’ told him.
Official comments including ‘No Comment’ comments come from a specific communication team within the broader Royal Family office. Unproven or speculative gossip comes from unnamed and unaffiliated ‘sources

I hope if anyone suggests in the media that Omid Scobie is lying that he sues them. He is a journalist and will not have tweeted what he did without evidence.
The Palace lied. The Palace lie all the time.

Hah!

loads of journalists are economical with the actualite, as the late Alan Clark so memorably said.

Scobie can produce the two letters he received from the Palace (cos he always double checks his facts, he said so himself) can’t he?

wonder when he will?

the 12th of Never?

Cherryblossoms85 · 20/01/2023 14:56

I don't get how invested people are in this. Some toffs slagging each other off. So?

babsanderson · 20/01/2023 14:57

@TrashyPanda I remember similar comments before on MN doubting Omid Scobie. Then he published proof. Silence from those who had slagged him off.
He is not stupid and will have evidence.

are you talking about what Scobie claims?
if so, then he just has to produce his two letters from the Palace, and job done.

otherwise - well, he isn’t exactly credible, serious journalist with a reputation for accuracy, is he?

He doesn’t even need to do that for me to believe him - he just needs to confirm which communications team told him - I wouldn’t even need a name.

If he can’t do the bare minimum of that then at best it was gossip or speculation, or made up from a member of staff hoping to earn a few extra pounds knowing that the official response would be no comment on security matters.

And at worst he’s making the whole thing up himself knowing that he can hide behind the phrase ‘palace source’

as the late HMQ said “recollections may vary”

i look forward to him producing his two pieces of evidence.

of course, one wonders why he didn’t fact check with H&M. Isn’t that the obvious thing to do? Him being one of only three journos MM invited to say goodbye to, after all. Clearly there was an existing relationship there, so a quick phone call could have sorted everything.

I think the real issue is that lHarry has thrown Scobie to the wolves and he is panicking, because the subject of his book has said the account is wrong.

He’d be utterly destroyed in cross-examination if he tried, having already been shown to have lied to the court. Would be fun to watch, though….🤣

You are joking. It’s a gatehouse. Anyone could see a building, surely? It’s a bit of a difficult thing to keep secret.

It’s certainly hypothetically possible that releasing that someone has specific kidnapping training could be a potential threat to their security.

In terms of Meghan however, it would be expected that she’d have this. Same with all the royals. Foreign correspondents all have to undertake it.

It’s possible perhaps that Meghan was supposed to have such training and chose not to, and “the palace” said she had genuinely believing she had, or lied by saying Meghan had in order to protect her.

In any event, the training would probably be organised by the Royal Protection Command run by the Met. Not by the palace. It’s the Command that would make the decision on who gets it, not the palace.

This. I’m fed up of half truths and personal truths that he and H&M speak in.

If he has proof of this, why not just post it?

Instead he writes a tweet trying to blame others for why his story differs from Harry’s and then spends the rest of the time arguing with people in his comments section.

Patineur · 20/01/2023 15:35

Why on earth would we take Scobie's word for it? It's not as if he's respected as an accurate journalist, is he?
